Restaurant was really nice. Very close walk from Capital One Arena. Food was delicious. Hot chocolate was amazing too. service was great.
Pleasant dinner with my fiancé. Wait staff seemed a little experienced but the food was ultimately enjoyable.
Saturday brunch excellent food, your should be getting back the whole Brunch menu
It’s expensive. A cheese omelette with some green leaves is $18. Let that be your baseline.
It was very nice and the food was excellent. The service was among the best I’ve experienced in DC during this visit and we hit a ton of restaurants. The Smith is a solid 5 stars for me!
Food was just ok and over price the worse was the service I will not recomed or go back there ever again
Went for New Years Eve prix fixe. Three courses with additions of raw bar, snacks, or drinks for additional cost. 4 appetizers then choose your mains course then 4 deserts. More than enough food and it was extremely good and the flavors were incredible.
Went here for the NYE pre-set menu and it was fantastic!
Always great service and food and atmosphere!
Everything was fine. A bit overpriced in my opinion.
Relaxed night good eats
Perhaps it was just an off night due to the holiday week and perhaps the server had too many tables. My shrimp were perfectly cooked, but the cheese grits were tepid. My companion ordered a second glass of wine which was never delivered, although the server offered to bring it after the meal and comp the glass. Things were just a bit off. It seems out of character.
Great food and atmosphere in a good area of DC. Wait staff was lacking on attentiveness.
Several of the drinks we ordered were not available, as a result the manager comped a second round for us. He didn't need to but wanted to make sure we were not disappointed in our visit. We will remember that action.
The Smith is one of my favorite restaurants in the DMV, so I go there very often. Today’s food was good per usual; however, the customer service wasn’t what I expected at all. I get it, it’s the day after Christmas and they were busy; however, our server forgot about us several times. We had to keep reminding him of our drinks/food. By the time for us to order our main course, it was the end of the first server’s shift and someone else started to serve us. He, too, took forever to come check our table- we ordered but had to box the food to-do. We asked for our check and never got it- until I had to ask another server to help us close the bill.
We all enjoyed dinner, it was delicious! Staff were very friendly too!
Excellent service, amazing food and a wonderful place to have a holiday dinner with family!
Service was awful but everything else was amazing! We will give it another try! Second times a charm;)
Mother/son night out.
The Smith is one my favorite restaurants in Chicago and DC.
Great service, great atmosphere, great steaks, and their shishito peppers are always an amazing treat.
Our food took forever to come out with a virtually empty restaurant. Our kids meals, luckily, came out first, but they were finished eating before we were served our meals. No apologies or explanations until right before being served, we were told it was the French fries they were waiting on to finish cooking. Coffee machine was broken, so no coffees, except drip. This is not the standards of the NY Smith restaurants. Disappointing. Food was good. We had burgers and chicken sandwich. Waiter was nice.
The sanitation was excellent. They cleared and sanitized our table quickly as a team and very well. The Brook trout dish was a tiny portion for $31 so it should be larger or priced lower.
Because of an event nearby the restaurant was busy and probably does a better job when there is not an event.
The place is clean, fresh and lively pre-game. The menu offers a reasonable amount of choices and the quality of food was impressive. The prices are WOW, high for what you get. It works well pre-game but seems pricey for what you get. Service was very good.
The atmosphere is very nice and the food was great! The burratta appetizer was fantastic. My only complaint was that the tables are very close to each other, considering Covid.
Overrated restaurant. Pricy and food was not great as the one in NYC. Hosting staff wasn’t that nice.
Terrible service. Our server did not return to take our entre orders. We would have had at least another round of cocktails and dessert, too. It wasn’t busy and our sever was flirting with the hostess while we tried to get his attention. We finally had to ask another sever to get our check. We left hungry and very disappointed.
The service was excellent! I really enjoyed the ambience and the food was tasty.
It was my first time at The Smith. Food was decent and I like that they have all day brunch items. However, our server was awful. She was very slow, disappeared several times, and seemed apathetic. After asking her for straws three times, I just got up and got my own straws. She saw me getting the straws and she didn’t apologize or anything. It was like I should get my own straws. She was a poor reflection of The Smith as I’m sure not all servers are subpar.
Service wasn’t great. Waiter forgot my coffee and my side order. Had to ask for check after a long wait.
Great atmosphere for holiday brunch. Quality ingredients if not overly imaginative. Espresso machine broken and a few menu items unavailable, which we didn't know till we tried to order them. Bread to other tables and not ours, when we asked we got attitude. So unhappy with service, but might try it again for a cocktail.
Very poor service. Went for a date night and could barely hear each other. Bar was backed up and couldn’t grab another round of drinks without waiting awhile.
Overall good food, loud but pretty restaurant and really crappy service.
The shrimp and grits need a serious revamp. First, it was the smallest portion of grits I’ve ever received with shrimp and grits. For 38 dollars you might think you would get a decent portion of something cheap like grits but no. There was fennel in the greens which unbalanced the lobster butter. Would only go again for drinks as the oysters were subpar as well. Service was great though and our waiter was lovely.
Great service on a visit before a concert at CapOne. The Smith will always be pretty loud, even this visit when it was plenty, but not totally full. Highly recommend the Brussels sprouts. My daughter had the spaghetti bolognese and she loved it. I have the briefs pressed chicken and it was very good. The sticky toffee pudding was insanely good. The Smith is a great place for a quality, fun meal.
I eat at The Smith quite often - sometimes a few times a week. I wanted to bring my mother when she was in town to show her my favorite place. And it was utterly disappointing. First the service was extremely slow. I was hoping you would bring out a surprise appetizer as you do with most of my lunches, but you did not. And I order the same thing every time I’m there - the Caesar salad with salmon. The first salad they brought over was a chicken Caesar. It took an extremely long time for them to bring the correct salad and when they did it was horrible. It was not the little gem lettuce - it was a pile of plain romaine. And there no Parmesan crisps at all. And the salmon was over cooked. When I told my server she said the manager would come over and they never did. Super disappointing all around.
The dining space is lovely. Our server seemed new at her job. Slow, inattentive, not knowledgeable about the menu.
We ordered cocktails which took a long time to arrive and were Complimentary because a few ingredients were unavailable so they were subbed. The drinks were not good.
We ordered the oysters(good), bone in rib eye (poor), and mussels(good). The rib eye arrived with no bone which for me is half the experience. I asked for medium rare but half of my steak was cooked closer to medium well. I brought this to the attention of the server who then brought over the manager. The manager offered to have the correct steak prepared and packed for me to take home and I was to continue with incorrect item. I agreed because yes I was hungry and the service was already very slow even with the restaurant not at full capacity (staffing issue I guess). I don't mind waiting at times but to have the wrong order needless to say the experience became tiresome. At the end of the meal my steak was not brought out to me and I did not ask for it. I think simply refunding my meal or asking if I preferred something else would have been a better solution. I'm not a fan of steak the next day.
Finally my friend and I split the check. The entire check amount was charged to my card AND the portion my friend designated to pay was charged to her card. We got this sorted with the server(hopefully... I'll be eyeing my card for the final charge transaction) All in all it just felt like a very off night at The Smith.
Soooooooo disappointing and frustrating!! My wife and I ate at the Smith after visiting the downtown Christmas Market on a Sunday evening around 8pm. The restaurant was about half full, but the service was perhaps the worst we’ve ever experienced—inattentive, sporadic, perfunctory, feel free to insert your own synonym for atrocious here. Though we asked for a more-out-of the way table in the corner, we were told that this wouldn’t be possible, because those tables were for four diners and we had only two. Soon thereafter, the hostess sat an extraordinarily loud and obnoxious, F-Bombing large group immediately next to us. Of course and as anticipated, the more out-of-the-way four-top tables went unused for the balance of the evening. As for the food, the Mac and Cheese was pretty good, the rest (calamari, burger) nothing more than average. We had expected so much better given what looked like a creative menu and what we had assumed would be a welcoming and fun atmosphere.
Service was very slow. In our seats for 10 minutes before we saw a server. Bar was even slower. Server warned us that the bar was slow but drinks arrives after entrees were served. Entrees were incomplete. Had the ask several times to get sides delivered. Ordered wine for the table - was never served. Total attitude of all the staff was uncaring.
We were disappointed to find that Red Sauce Sunday had been discontinued, but without the chicken parmesan being added to the menu as an individual item. Our waiter was awful. I understand that he was busy, but he never checked on us, glasses empty for the entire meal. Final insult, the wine list wasn't updated and was lacking.
The food was excellent, I would highly recommend the filet although each person at our table were extremely pleased with their order. Our waiter was wonderful and most helpful but we experienced the truth of a venue being understaffed. He tried his best as the restaurant was fully booked! We still tipped based on excellent service. Thank you for making our evening complete !
