Really fast service and great food! Just a little loud.
Amazing food and experience. Would definitely come again
The service was okay, waitress did not ring in a side order but she never came back to check on the food or to see how everything came out. She never asked the table if anyone needed drinks- I’d have to flag her down and then call her back for other peoples’ orders (I had a total of three glasses of wine over 2.5 hours so this was not like a demanding table). I ordered a steak salad medium and steak was completely overdone. Just a disappointing outing.
Valentine’s Day. Very nice place, outstanding service.
Had a great dinner date there! The staff was friendly and the service as great. I will definitely eat there again!
Went there for Valentine's Day dinner. Was glad we could order off the regular menu. Two dinners, two drinks and a split appetizer (and free bread) came to $100, which was a bargain compared to the fixed price menus I saw at other restaurants for V-Day. The tuna tartare appetizer was just right, even my spouse who isn't keen on sushi loved it with the aioli toast. Our entrees were a catfish dish and scallops with clams in a creamy clam broth. I asked for a spoon so I could get the clam sauce with every bite. The scallop dish was a notch saltier than I would have preferred but still delicious, and my husband raved about the catfish. The Kentucky mule cocktail with the homebrewed ginger beer was also outstanding. The seating is a little close together so it wasn't exactly an intimate dinner, but the hostess thoughtfully didn't seat people on both sides of us. (We were on the early side so later diners may not have had that opportunity). Altogether a lovely dinner prior to going to Woolly Mammoth for a show.
Our server was fantastic, it was our first time to The Smith and we really enjoyed it. Will definitely go back.
The Smith is always great. Only been in NYC previously, but this one was just as great!
All good as usual
Good service and location. Drinks are good but squid ink pasta was not.
Love this spot! Great food and service. Also, super kid friendly!
Visiting from out of town. The value per meal was really reasonable considering location. I expected to pay a minimum of 35-40, but spent half of that! Really good experience. I only have 2 negatives, the coffee tasted like it was sitting on the counter ALL morning. Also, the seating was cramped, the servers and even guests continued to bump into the back of my chair due to the location of our table. I was grid locked on all sides and couldn’t move the table away. Other than that the experience was really good. Major positive was the variety of the menu, they had something for everyone.
If I could give this zero stars I would. Our experience started out OK until our server disappeared right after we ordered. We had to flag down various servers to request additional drinks, cream for coffee, bread (after waiting 20 minutes and realizing we didn’t get any) etc. Finally, who I am assuming was on duty manager (she did not introduce herself) came over to see how everything was going and we explained that we had no idea what happened to our server (she just disappeared) and had been waiting for our order for about 30 minutes. A lot of back and forth and a basket of complementary chips later, we finally got our food which was lacking in flavor, cold and the French toast was dry and not how we had ordered it. We were really disappointed by this experience considering we have been dining at The Smith for at least the last 6 years (started in NYC). We have never had such a bad experience but are so disappointed that will most likely not be coming back.
Avocado toast and eggs Benedict tasty. Great brunch spot.
I frequently travel to Washington DC and every trip includes at least one meal at The Smith. Have been there this time 3 days running for brunch!
Great food & service. Good atmosphere. Portions on smaller side. Acoustics could be improved. I would definitely return and recommend to others.
The service was excellent. We were a party of 14. The food was good but it was a it too loud.
Went pre Caps game. Had a 5:30 reservation and had to wait 25 minutes to be seated Wait staff was courteous and efficient. Got four appetizers that were just okay. Waitress advised she brought over comped chips due to long wait. Looked at the receipt the following morning and saw I was charged. Would probably go back but will explore other options first.
The staff was friendly, the food came out extremely fast, was more than we could eat, and was delicious.
Great service and the food was delicious!
SUPER noisy, so hard to talk across the table. Very busy so drinks were late but the waiter said the restaurant would cover it which was kind. Definitely more of a grab a bite place rather than have dinner and talk.
The server was awesome and the food was amazing! The squid ink pasta dish, shrimp and grits were beyond delicious!!
We had an office lunch to celebrate some service awards. The food was good, the service was great and the atmosphere was what we all need. Simply lovely.
Food was good. Noise level was super high! Would not recommend if you want to have a conversation.
First time there. Will definitely be back!
Met up with some friends we haven’t seen in awhile that love steak. We had the Saturday special short ribs. It was the perfect dish. Others had steak and pasta. All delicious. Server and service was exceptional.
A real NY classic feeling
Great! A bit loud but good vibes :)
The food was great. Main room is noisy so if you need a place where you can hear ask for a table in the back.
Thanks great time !!!
Food and service was great but noise level was deafening
The food is very reliable. Preparations aren't elaborate but well done. I loved my salmon tartare and we all enjoyed the order of brussels sprouts we shared. Too often they're either so undercooked they're raw or overcooked into mush. These were perfect. The bread is boring baguette. For Sunday brunch a nice muffin would have been better. My companions both had egg white omelets and were very pleased with them. One wanted a change from the menu description and they complied with her request. I felt at the end they should have inquired whether we wanted dessert but did not. I've loved the warm chocolate chip cookies in New York and didn't find out whether they even offer them in DC. They brought the bill and I didn't think of it. I did have problems with the noise level. It made conversation very difficult because we had trouble hearing one another. It was a reunion of old friends and I think we should have gone someplace quieter.
Waitstaff needs more training. Very disorganized.
The Smith staff were very accommodating to our very large party of adults, toddlers and babies. We had a wonderful time and appreciated their flexibility and help.
The food is consistently good here. Service is professional and timely. We were greeted with a glass of champagne to recognize that we had eaten there several times before. A nice and unexpected touch!
Good was amazing loved it!
The place was really fun with attentive service. The chips with blue cheese were great! Everyone liked their food, except for the wings. Kind of flavorless batter with way too much sauce. Nothing to complain about, but would not order again. The cocktails were just right, the blue catfish was wonderful, as was the burger. Definitely will come again.
The atmosphere here is fantastic, very lively, and energetic. The decor is beautiful and the food was fantastic. It is a great place to meet friends for Sunday brunch and is very convenient to the National portrait Gallery or the Capitol One Center.
Simply said, I was not impressed with the chicken and waffles.
Yes for the food and the experienced waiters. No for the ungracious hosts and the extremely loud music. Hard rock is not an appropriate brunch background music. Did they leave on the music played by the cleaning crew the night before?
