Having eaten at the Shepherd and Dog on several occasions I was very disappointed last Wednesday lunch time. We waited at least 20 minutes for someone to take our order and it was nearly an hour from when we sat down until we got any food. We chose from the a la carte menu, in the past food has been excellent but on Wednesday the starters and main course were very mediocre. Nothing like the taste, presentation and quality on previous visits. The only saving grace was the sharing desert. We stayed at the table chatting for at least another hour and the desert plates and coffee cups were just left and not cleared away. My friends and I have often visited for special occasions but at £40 a head for a mid week lunch without wine we expect better service and food.

Booked for Sunday lunch and it did not disappoint. The waitresses we very attentive and there was no waiting around for our table. Plenty of roast potatoes! One thing I will say is the size of the coke bottle which are tiny and around £3. I think this could be looked at if you both had a couple it would push the bill up.

Although the staff were very pleasant, they made no effort to clear a lot of rubbish left behind by previous diners under the tables. Also, the ladies toilet was littered all evening with empty toilet rolls and therefore I don’t think it was checked regularly. Food was disappointing and it’s usually good.

Order was wrong and when it did finally come out it wasn’t very nice! Such a shame as previously when I have been it’s been nice!

A good gastro pub for meeting up with friends and family. Not too noisy so you can chat comfortably. Food well presented and tasty. Good vegetarian options, even one vegan! Had to wait quite a while and asked three times for a coffee. Was given excuse that they were under staffed - hadn't noticed that before as the service was ok.
