The food and wine pricing did not fit with the restaurant. The wines were higher priced and lower quality than an upscale restaurant. With $25-31 entrees and $15 glasses/ $60 -$130 bottles of wine I would have expected ambiance(maybe a table cloth maybe a candle ) and well mannered/trained servers But ambiance was like a Panera, hostess was sassy and servers attire was camo and flannel.
Service was less than adequate. Long periods before checking. Had to ask for refill. We received a call that made us need to leave. Made the waiter aware we needed to leave please bring check. He went to the next table and began a conversation lasting over 10 minutes. I had to get up and interrupt to get my check. He acted as if I was Rude
This was our first time at this restaurant. The food was good. I was slightly disappointed that the 8oz Filet has been replaced by a 10 Ribeye.
Overall the food was very good.
Fantastic food and amazing service -- the waitress and staff had great energy that made us feel at home!
Filet mignon was sliced into four pieces. Was not hot when served.
Waiter was exceptional, food tasted great, best fried green tomatoes I've ever eaten!
Service was great, food was not
The food was excellent! Staff was super service oriented. We felt their wine list could be better to compliment their fabulous menu. The staff did everything to make it right letting us taste numerous wines.
We enjoyed the meatballs, she crab soup, the duck breast and leg of duck. They gave our birthday girl a free dessert of chocolate mousse cake that actually served all three of us. It was huge and tasty.
We’ll be back!
We really enjoyed The Shaved Duck. We tried several of the small plates instead of entrees and they were all super yummy. The staff was very helpful, food came out quickly and hot. It seemed like a slow night (day after Christmas), so I could see it being a lot louder…but I think that would be ok. We will definitely be back!
Excellent meal for out of town family during the holidays
Great restaurant, food is great, changing menu that always has something interesting to try. The appetizers are a nice start with drinks that bring a different taste as well, ask Ben his opinion and you get some insight on food and drink that are spot on.
Nice spot for dinner, having a drink or a special occasion.
We went to the Shaved Duck for brunch. The food was delicious! The menu had just enough selections. The Four of us each had something different and there were no disappointments. We all agreed we would come back soon. The restaurant itself is very nicely laid out and has a very good feel. The service was also excellent. I ate the country ham on cheese biscuits with poached eggs. My mouth waters to think about it.
Staff was pleasant and food was delicious. Each person in our party of five had something different and everyone was very happy.
Both the service and the food were excellent! We will definitely be going back!
Unfortunately, the food Did not live up to what was possible. On of our meals was undercooked and all of us were finished with the meal before the replacement came. We noticed that several customers had sent their food back last night. This was our first visit and I believe the restaurant may have been having a bad night but it was unfortunate.
We did our best to remake the unsatisfactory dish as quickly as possible, and apologized for the human error. We only had one other guest send back food last night (due to personal preference), and they happened to be the table next to yours. We hope you can appreciate our sincere desire to provide our guests with a great experience. It's disappointing to see that our steps taken to rectify the issue still left your party wanting. Thanks for your sharing your feedback and happy holidays.
Loved the food and service but the interior seems rigid and cold, the furniture and lack of decor
We're so pleased you enjoyed the food and appreciated our service! It's disappointing to know that our efforts to decorate for the holidays were not equally pleasing. Thank you for supporting our local restaurant and happy holidays.
We arrived a few minutes late, but the hostess was understanding and sat us right away. Server took a few minutes to get to our table, but we were not in a rush and the coffee was hot and delicious. Food was delicious as well. Another stellar brunch.
Waitress was fantastic. She knew when to visit the table and was very attentive. Food was excellent. Will definitely visit again.
outstanding casual food and fantastic service (from Ben) - thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to compliment Ben's efforts in making your experience enjoyable! He appreciated the acknowledgement and we hope you'll join us again soon!
restaurant was sparsely populated on the night before Thanksgiving. The she crab soup was excellent. We ordered duck, pork chops, gnocchi, and cioppino. All were good, but cioppino noodles were a bit dry and the dish could have used more broth. Service was excellent. A little on the expensive side.
The food was great just didn’t not inform that the duck breast was out.
Delicious food and great bar menu!
The Caesar salad was flavorless and fried green tomatoes were cold inside. Salmon was very good but shrimp and grits could use more seasoning. Server was very nice but a little slow at first.
We enjoyed EVERYTHING! Food, drinks, and service. Even the bread!
Great food, wonderful server. Thanks.
It was a second date for us so still much to talk about and we stayed past afternoon closing. Nobody pressured us. Very nice and accommodating staff.
We've been to the Shaved Duck several times now, and are always impressed with the service and the food. This was our first time going there for brunch, and just like with their dinners, would not Hesitate to go again and will recommend to others if they ask about a good brunch spot. The biscuits and gravy was spot on, best I've had in years. Kudos again to the entire crew, from owner to managers to servers to hosts, they make you feel welcome and at home the entire time. Looking forward to our next visit already.
This restaurant came highly recommended and we were trying it out to host our rehearsal dinner. I'm so glad we did. I'm guessing covid had a massive impact on this restaurant. The food was very ok and a few things weren't cooked correctly. The service was really lacking. It was very clear they were understaffed. The hostess was also a waitress. We were waiting a long time before being checked on and were delivered dirty silverware and glasses. Disappointed to leave this review and I wish them all the best in sorting it out, but we won't return here.
Our server was phenomenal
When planning a dinner with a friend, I initially overlooked the Shaved Duck thinking it was too formal. I’m glad I reconsidered. The food was fantastic, I highly recommend the Shrimp and Grits! If you like bourbon, the smoked old fashioned is outstanding. In addition to the menu the staff was both friendly and attentive. Give the Shaved Duck a look for your next dinner.
Wonderful service and food! Lauren was amazing and made it a great experience!
It was our first time there. Our server, Brian took plenty of time to give us his recommendations and our food was delicious. Brian checked on us but let us enjoy our time together. It was a great experience and we will be back.
Had the Ribeye. in the past was excellent, this time was overcooked. Ordered medium and got well done. Wife had the duck burger which she states is always excellent.
Great service. Awesome food. Enjoyed everything about the experience. Will be a return customer.
Great food..We really enjoyed our meal..will be back for sure..
She crab soup was very good. Duck breast cold and chewy. The puree was also cold. Replaced by the shrimp and grits which resulted in a pile of sauce atop of undercooked cheese grits. My wife had the mussels which resulted in a bowl of mussels in some under seasoned vegetable water. All in all a lot of missed opportunities. My friends crispy duck leg was pulled duck meat cover in sauce. So much for crispy!
This review shows complete disregard for the efforts taken by our staff. After replacing the unsatisfactory items, our manager pressed for feedback on both the uneaten mussels, and the replacements. It seems you chose to provide blatantly false feedback, in favor of posting passive-aggressively online. The final decision to stiff your server, despite her efforts leaves us uninterested in future “opportunities“. We invite you to dine elsewhere moving forward, and wish their employees the best.
Good cocktails and delicious food
Super cool concept. Hidden gem
The rib eye should have been called a grizzled eye....the local vegetables were only passable. Ciopini smoked flavor was overpowering. On the other hand, the duck ball appetizer was delicious.
The service by Miss Mary was outstanding; hostess Jackie was accommodating as can be.
The Shaved Duck is kind of like a geode - it may look plain on the outside, like the rest of the mall it's located in, but on the inside it's a genuine gem. The food is inventive, quality, and fairly priced. My wife and I have been twice (we took my mother the most recent time). On both occasions, we received impeccable service, and everything we tried was fantastic. Recently, my wife tried a duck leg with tomato garlic sauce that was fantastic. My mother, who is a bit less adventurous, was very pleased with the shrimp and grits. Cocktails are great here, and they do fantastic happy hours including half off wine bottles on Wednesdays.
The only criticism I would level is that the food I've ordered that contained spicy ingredients was quite spicy. For me that is great! I love spicy food. For others, it may be off-putting. I might encourage the owners to consider a scale for spicy dishes.
Service was superb. As always, the food was delicious and creative. Bread plate was exceptional! Server was appropriately attentive and accommodating. One of our favorite restaurants in Midlothian!
