About this restaurant

The Salutation Inn is one of the very few Hammersmith pubs which appeals to all comers. Dating back to 1750, when the building was a coaching inn, The Salutation is certainly not a crusty old local but nor has it been stripped of all its charm and character in its most recent overhaul. Many original features remain in the comfortable, elegantly decorated rooms where real ales, beers and wines are enjoyed by a collection of young professionals, arty types, older clientele and couples, while out on the terrace The Salutation gives the riverside pubs a run for their money with a lovely sunny spot incredibly popular during the warmer months. The menu is excellent value with good old fashioned British pub favourites as well as tempting bar snacks offered throughout the day.

We visited The Salutation for an early meal before a concert at the Apollo. At around a 5 minute walk from the tube and only a couple more to the venue, the location is handy. The staff were very friendly and reserved us a table in the garden as it was a sunny evening. The menu has more than enough choice and the food we ordered was fresh, tasty and the portions generous - especially the full rack of ribs. For the money, the meal was excellent. The drinks were also well priced. Overall, it was a great pre-gig place to eat and I will definitely be back next time I visit the Apollo.

This was our first lunch of the season and The Salutation, once again, lived up to our expectations. We had a lovely corner table which amply provided space for our bags and allowed us to relax comfortably. Burgers were just as we'd hoped they'd be and this time we also had the calamares starter between us, which came with a delicious dipping sauce. Our only slight disappointment was that our favourite Chardonnay had been taken off the menu! Apart from that, we were two happy Princesses!

No reservation on arrival and no awareness of top table. Kitchen closed.

This time two of us chose the halloumi burgers and providing you're not a dedicated carnivore they were a very enjoyable alternative to the beef variety. The only thing that I would pick out was that this time there was no wine list - luckily we remembered which one we'd had prevously! Apart from that everything was up to the usual high standards! Keep up the good work!

It seemed that The Salutation was under new management this time and they appeared eager to please. The 'garden' had been trimmed allowing more sunlight to filter in - always a good thing in this country, in my opinion! Burgers were predictably tasty as were the fries. The only minor thing I would suggest is that the sauces are given a bit more attention as chilli sauce was very low and the English mustard almost non-existent - that did not go down too well with my dining companion as she is addicted to the stuff!!

Excellent location for our Royal Luncheon! With the sun beating down, the beautiful flowers and the grapevines in the garden at the back of The Salutation provided ample shade with the odd glint of sun for those who preferred to top up their tan. The burger was most enjoyable whilst the cod would have benefitted from being skinless. Near perfection could have been obtained if the tables had been cleared more frequently.

I ate here on last friday night. Despite booking through toptable we did not have any reserved seating on arrival although the barman did offer to find us a table. The food was very disappointing for the money. We both had the pulled pork burger and fries which was nothing like you would imagine. Rather than actual pulled pork it was a reheated frozen pattie of very dry, pretty tasteless pork. The fries and relish serving was also tiny. We weren't given any cutlery or napkins either, we had to help ourselves from the service station. Might return for a drink but certainly not any food.

This was the 3rd time we had eaten at The Salutation and we were very pleased to be able to sit outside for the duration of our celebratory lunch! Staff were as friendly as before however we DID notice a change in the burgers and their presentation. Not quite as enjoyable as they were previously, however the fries and buns were just as good as we remembered. We will return!

On entering this pub we were a bit put off our choice as it appeared to be for locals and felt a bit out of place, however having sat in the garden at the back we were pleasently surprised by what was available. We shared the breaded prawn as a starter however it was £6 for 6 prawns working out at an expensive £1 each. A friend had a burger which was disappointing in comparison to the pork belly and my sausage and mash which were generous portions. There was no offer available however pub food is usually lower in price. I wouldn't come here again for full price as it wasn't anything special but would be tempted if there were offers available.
