We made reservations for our first time experience watching the boat parade. We viewed the menu prior to making the reservation to ensure there was something all four of us could enjoy. Our reservations were for 7:00 and we arrived at 6:00 to watch the parade outside. I let the host know that we were here and he told me that we could actually come in at 6:30 if we preferred to sit early. We headed in at 6:30 because it was so cold out, but there was nobody at the host station. We waited approximately 15 minutes for someone to come to the host station, and it ended up being our waitress who sat us. To our surprise, the menu was not the same menu we had viewed. This one was quite disappointing and limited. I asked if they had Moscato, and the waitress told me they had only two whites and neither was sweet. More disappointment. The other three at my table ordered chowder as an appetizer. I asked for bread/rolls to munch on while they ate. We ordered our meals at the same time. Twenty minutes later, no chowder or bread yet. The waitress explained that they were making more because they had run out. I am told that the chowder was very good. A lot more time goes by and my boyfriend orders a glass of wine and two of us are out of water. She says she will bring a carafe . The food comes, but the chowder bowls are still on the table and only two of the meals come out. The steak is over cooked and the salmon is not hot and has the wrong side dish.The other two meals come out and mine has slaw on it that I asked them not to put on. It goes back. We have to ask again for the wine and water. We were never asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. When we asked about the menu, we were told it is a brand new menu and the chef is new. I feel that if you are going to advertise your restaurant as the place to be for this parade, the menu should be correctly advertised. They did take 50% off our bill, which was very generous, but every aspect of this restaurant needs improvement.

Unfortunately they were very under staffed. Our server was trying as hard as she could but they couldn’t keep up with the reservations. They promoted themselves as the best place to watch an event so they were packed but didn’t staff accordingly. We ordered appetizers that never arrived. Drinks took forever to arrive, including water. Our server tried so hard but wasn’t set up for success. The menu has changed since the last time we ate there and I was disappointed with the changes. I know this restaurant is trying and is new, but there are some changes that need to be made. Not sure we will come back.

The Reef participated in restaurant week as a premier option. As we walked up we noticed the place was empty and this should’ve been and was our first clue to how the night would go. The decor was that of a VFW Hall. The cocktail I ordered was served in a generic beer glass. Both dinners ordered off the “premium menu” were served with white rice...and one of those was supposed to pass as RISOTTO! The waitress was lovely and she was the only positive part of our experience. We spent 4 days tasting many restaurants that participated in restaurant week...this was by far the worst.

Bartender didn't know what goes into a martini. 3 people behind the bar, and nobody knew. Ordered a simple vodka and soda and it tasted like the mold. The ice was funky. The ice machine probably hadn't been cleaned. Had a round at the bar waiting for friends to join us, there were only 3 other people at the bar, and 1 couple in the dining room and they couldn't put our drinks on the dinner bill?
Dinner was disappointing, rack of lamb (2 skimpy chops that had no browning) and were mushy, risotto was also mushy, roasted vegetables were unidentifiable overdone. Coconut shrimp app. was fine. Dessert was goat cheesecake, ok, not great.
Waitstaff were polite and tried their best.
Nobody else at the table was raving about the quality mediocre at best.

Disappointing! Despite much thought and effort on the part of the chef and servers, the result was undercooked lamb chops (dark red on both sides), very overcooked filet mignon (ordered med rare, arrived grey/brown throughout), and tasteless though beautiful mango pana cotta and goat cheesecake. All this on evening one of Newport Restaurant Week! Yikes. Servers were great and — our bad — we sent nothing back given the efforts of all staff. Still, much remained uneaten.
We hope to give this another chance!

Not only was the Prix Fixe dinner for two an amazing deal, the food options were all appealing and the meal was excellent. Between us, our party of 6 enjoyed each entree and all were more than pleased. Our waitress, Gabby, was awesome!!! We will definitely return and can't believe it took us 9 years visiting Newport every year for seafood festival to finally discover this gem of a restaurant.

The Reef is now offering one of the best deals in Newport. For $45 for two there is a price fixe menu that includes a bottle of wine, 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and two desserts. All of which were delicious.
The new owners have created a beautiful spot on the water. the outside bar is a wonderful place to have a drink. the inside bar is fun too and there always seems to be some music. We were there at the beginning of October and it was pretty chilly. The fireplace was turned on and it was so warm and cozy.
definitely check this place out. Looks like a great place for a wedding as well.

We had steaks scallops and a special meal for a food allergy. The steaks were cooked perfectly, the scallops were excellent and the special care for the food allergy was very good. Finding a good restaurant able to accommodate food allergies is really important, these guys got it right.
Additionally, they had a guitar player that was outstanding.

Perfect date night spot or for grabbing drinks and apps with friends. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the live music and overall atmosphere. We decided to go with the $45 dinner for two special with a prix fixe menu and the entire meal was so DELICIOUS! Definitely got the best deal for our money and were super stuffed by the end of the three courses unlike other restaurants where the portions aren't as filling. The staff on hand were very friendly and attentive. Highly recommend stopping by this place down by the water before a night out on the town.

The food was pretentious and bland. Although the service was quick and the view was great, it was a let down and a huge two thumbs down for us.
We started with an order of calamari which had an orangey mango fruit sauce drizzled atop. Not the best when it’s still rubbery and chewy.
My husband ordered the burger which didn’t taste good with a weird flavor of tarragon possibly. His fries barely had any Parmesan on them. Mine on the other hand had plentiful but needed salt (which was not set out on the table already). The lobster roll that I ordered was okay. I can’t complain about how much lobster was stuffed into the roll or the perfect amount of mayo, but the flavor was just missed. I ordered a Truly seltzer and it came out in a large water glass, without ice or a straw. My husband ordered a Michelob Ultra and they had run out?... It was noon. On a Saturday. I don’t get it. I had to try it out but won’t be going back.

Stopped by this establishment for dinner when staying in Newport of business. The hostess was very pleasant and accommodating. They had a love band and a few locals eating dinner. It was not an overly busy night but the service was slow. I sat at the bar it took a 15minutes for the bartender to bring me a menu and ask my drink order. The person sitting next to me actually left as they couldn’t wait any longer. I had the scallops dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance was nice but the attention from the wait staff and timelines should be better for the price point. Overall for the value your better off at 41 North but if you want to try something different worth giving it a shot...

Great outside location to sit and chat with friends on a beautiful, hot summer day with perfect breeze to keep us cool! Hostess was very accommodating by bringing over a (very!) heavy umbrella for shade at the waterfront hi-tops. Waitress was very sweet and also accommodating. Frozen drinks were yummy, yet not strong; we shared several apps that were good, but portions were small for the price. Overall, we just really enjoyed a friends' get together on the water and were happy with what we ordered!

We loved the Reef! What a beautiful view and the service was excellent. Karen clams, oysters, chowder (the best), coconut shrimp. We had two dishes we weren't crazy about; the lobster fettuccine was way too salty but had great flavor, and the lobster roll was over seasoned with tarragon. Other than that, we had the best time and would definitely go back in a heartbeat!

One person in our group was vegetarian- they had no vegetarian options for entrees.
On top of that they were out of 2 of the menu items- burger and steak .
Some of the items were also overpriced.
However our server Gabby was very nice.
The lobster roll and the coconut shrimp was good, but need to do better on the other dishes.

We plan on changing the menu seasonally and will be adding more options for our fall menu. We are only open since July and are tweaking some things as we speak. I was hesitant about the reservation after reading some reviews, although it was explained that it was only open a short time and still working out the kinks, but we had a very enjoyable experience. The location can't be beat. Our waitress, Karen, was very friendly and attentive. The food, most importantly, was very good. We all had different dishes and we all thought the food was very good. The bar offerings do need to be expanded .

When we saw you had a reservation already booked on Open Table, we called the number attached to the reservation and left a message, and also sent a text message alerting you that we were closing. Great location on the marina, but it will quickly fade into an afterthought if they don't up their service game. There are too many options in Newport for a nice dinner.

We were a larger party of 10 that went for dinner. The waitress seemed lost in the clouds. Half of our food came out, and the other half took an extra 30 minutes. The food that took the extra time was a grilled cheese, and 2 kids raviolis. Thats like 5 minutes in cooking time. The waitress asked one person if they wanted a drink refill and skipped the others. Went to the bar to get my drink and the tender said he needed to grab a bottle of wine out of the back. Came back 5 minutes later with the wine but started serving other people and totally forgot about my drink. The owner came over after dinner and asked of we wanted some leftover birthday cake for desert because the food order was messed up........granted it's a newer restaurant and may need time to get its stuff together, but this was an awful dining experience from sit down to walk out.

With all the great restaurants in Newport, this one just isn’t worth it. Meals came out cold. The oysters were good, but they didn’t have anything from RI? It was the only restaurant that had an opening for us on Folk Fest weekend...now I know why.

Time stood still at the Reef which was a welcome atmosphere compared to the busy streets in Newport. The stationary boats and birds & sunset all added to the experience.

Menu very limited and overpriced. Service was ok. Did not receive drinks that were ordered upon sitting down until after appetizers and main meal was on the table . Food was OK. Lobster roll was good,crabcake sandwich was bland. The only thing that will keep this place afloat is its location
