Well deserved of a Michelin star
We will be back!!!!
Great service and food. Super fun and attentive staff. Was able to get seated quickly and the meal wasn’t rushed. Rad!
Excellent service, amazing food, brilliant building & bar, highly recommended.
Food was amazing!!!! The kiwi salad with black truffle and dugeness crab was my favorite
Service way too slow. Huge meat platter arrive last and about 30 minutes after everything else. Food was excellent but not a good flow. Also waiter recommended way too much food. The red Gamay was not good either and very expensive. I wish I’d stayed with my choice and not go with waiter recommendation.
Very interesting dishes that combine ingredients in ways you have never tasted before. Some work; others don't. The menu is confusing at first as it runs from small snacks to huge meals for 2 to 6. After you figure out what to order, which is no mean feat, the dishes come as complete from the kitchen, no necessarily as you ordered.
The Service was a bit slow, although they have runners to bring the food to the table. We waited a long time for our wine to arrive, it showed up just in time for the courses. We would have liked to enjoy it a bit before hand.
And this place is very noisy, especially on a Saturday night with lots of big parties.
All in all. a nice experience overall, but not sure I'd return.
I found it appalling to be told by the maitre d' that we had until a certain time to eat because our table was needed.
Then the server started to bring out dishes at a very fast pace and when we asked her why we were rushed she said she was told we were on time constricted because the table was needed. Table for 2 where we spent around $300 and are given only an hour to eat?
I had made reservation a week before! It is almost insulting! Next time we should just drop our money at the entrance and leave.
It is extraordinary how pretentious and again insulting this is.
Fabulous..one of the best meals we’ve had in San Francisco in years!
The dishes were described, served and priced “family style,” but the portions were individual. The seasoning was off on several dishes, with jalapeno peppers served on a delicate fish. The service was very slow, they did not offer to help serve the whole fish, and we were misled about which dishes were gluten-free. Interesting, but I would never go back.
Wonderful experience. Food was delicious and the recommendations were on point.
Food and ambiance was outstanding. It was a little off-putting to be notified when we would have to leave our table the moment we sat down.
Delicious food and great service in a casual environment.
We celebrated our 40th anniversary there. The staff (host and servers) were fantastic and very friendly.
Excellent from arrival to departure. Had a great custom drink, excellent food choices with phenomenal flavor and appearance. Many service personnel who were always serving and picking up and very attentive. Never had to ask for anything. Would recommend this to everyone and can’t wait to go back!
Eleanore is the best :)
Love this place, always a great place for a special occasion or just a night out with friends. The menu is super vegetable and fresh heavy. It's a shame I couldn't try every cocktail, but all winners so far.
One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Service was really good.
Wonderful place to have a high end meal, and staff was very friendly and informative regarding the menu. The food was fantastic. Unfortunately we had to rush, would have liked to savored the entire experience at a much slower pace.
My favorite restaurant in SF, which is saying a lot given the culinary talent in the city. Each dish is so well balanced with such unusual combinations of flavors. The restaurant is not pretentious, but the service is excellent.
Radish was over dressed and crab dish was super oily but the staff was amazing!
We had a fantastic experience. Food was excellent but not overpriced. Service was top notch. I will definitely be back!
Our service was excellent. Our server suggested too many dishes. We almost felt pressured to order more than we wanted. However the choices and food were delicious.
An experience, not just eating, not just food.
A great level of care is shown by ALL staff to ensure you have a phenomenal experience.
Everything was great. We had a wonderful time. The portions for the platters are massive. More than enough for two people. We had - ghee cauliflower, Squab Liver Pasta and Five spice rack of lamb. Way too much food for two people :).
The server was very attentive and informed. Fun times
New Years Eve
Really good and innovative food. Price is fair for what you get, will definitely return.
Across the board, everything was excellent. Sat at the bar and had impeccable service, no mistakes, and our bartender took note of the occasion that brought us there and really went above and beyond. Highly recommended.
Best meal of 2019! Exceptional food and flavours. Would highly recommend.
Each dish was a symphony of flavors. There were no off notes; even the grilled bread with oil was outstanding
Excellent experience with flawless service and fantastic food.
It’s as simple as the food just not being very memorable. We ordered about 5 plates and the ribeye for two (non entree plates are small). Nothing stood out and the ribeye was poor; tough and not fatty. Worst ribeye I’ve had at a fine dining restaurant.
Drinks were good. Service was fine. Ambiance was great.
Much better restaurants in SF and NYC at this price point (~$300 was my bill for 2). I would advise against going.
The evening started spectacularly with Julia at the bar, and then even with random happy birthday greetings to our guest of the evening. Our only complaints were around the Somm (even with questions, she didn't give us any real information or tell us anything about the wines in question) and the timing of the full service (the order of the food was all wrong, dishes took entirely too long to deliver, and when served family style the dishes were just not enough food to feed our family—even after confirming that it would be enough).
The small complaints are manageable now that we know, they were just small bumps on an otherwise wonderful evening. And above all, the duck was absolutely incredible.
Great tasting interesting food. Great service. Fun place. Definitely recommended.
All round excellence from the team here.
We enjoy every moment and every morsel.
This is a well thought and executed menu - coupled with creative non alcoholic drinks and a fine wine list.
Excellent service all night - we felt special.
Highest recommendation in SF.
The food presentation was not very nice, like in a normal restaurant, not Michelin. Too noisy.
The shared plates were excellent, as were the smaller vegetable platters. Our waiter was outstanding, he seemed to carefully watch our expressions to know when we were in need, but not overly so. Our only complaint: the seats were terribly uncomfortable. Otherwise, this is an outstanding choice for dinner!
Food underwhelming. Felt like trying to be different for difference sake. Yeah you can eat it but nothing to write home about. That salad with grapefruit in it not working. And I eat ton of grapefruit. Didn't feel balanced. The ravioli was ok but could be beat by any decent Italian restaurant. And I eat every type of food, which includes unmentionable animals in other countries. Also "family style" for the prices you charge? Guess you can get people to think they're getting something, when it's less work for you, and the place does not feel like a family. I can go to most IHOPs and get genuinely friendlier wait staff. I've always wondered when you go to expensive restaurants if it's expected that you have pretentious waiters, like it goes with the prices or something. Our waiter didn't come around much to see what's up. Not bad service. Just not great. And beat by IHOP. I pretty much eat any type of food and easily pleased, but for your prices shouldn't you be blown away? Also the food not seasoned that aggressively, but I'll chalk that up to you're pretty white crowd for SF who prefer to walk on the mild side.
Sort of in our neighborhood. Our first time there. Loved the food and ambiance. A bit pricy bur we loved it.
I took my wife to Progress for her birthday. We had eaten at their sister restaurant State Bird Provisions a couple years ago and wanted to give it a try. While we enjoyed State Bird Provisions, we liked Progress better. The food and service were excellent. What we enjoyed the most, however, was the environment seemed more approachable and casual than State Bird. Perhaps it was the hype of State Bird at the time, but we're not into pretense and it seemed like there was more pretense with State Bird (again going back a couple years).
As far as the food at Progress, we were very pleased with our order as listed below. It as just the right amount of food (could've maybe done one less dish), but they are small plates. Our waiter recommended we either do 5/6 small plates or 2 small plates and 1 large plate. We wanted to experience more variety so we went with the small plate approach and weren't "shy" about it as you can see :)
--hog island sweetwater oysters, yuzu-pickled local nori
--artichoke & taggiasca olive giardiniera, parmesan & anchovy
--grilled squid salad
--grilled local squid & citrus, ‘roman style’, taggiasca olives, fennel & yuzu aioli
--charred broccoli ‘chop chop’, purple nappa cabbage & delicata squash, sprouted lentils, chile tahini
--erbette chard & ricotta ravioli, chanterelles, walnuts & aged balsamico
--braised pork shoulder, jalapeño-refried yellow eye beans, persimmons & habanero-pumpkin salsa
--cocoa nib mint panna cotta, toasted coconut crunch, huckleberries
--josey baker red wheat doughnuts, eggnog ice cream, aprium bourbon preserves, milk chocolate
We also had a couple cocktails and wine (my wife the Rose and me the cab).
Overall, it was a very satisfying dining experience and we'd highly recommend it. I want to give a shout out to our server who didn't miss a beat and was very attentive to our every need. He also brought out a candle on our doughnuts dessert which was a nice touch.
