The Progress & State Bird Provisions
Due to limited space and for the safety of all, we ask our guests to dine within the following time frames:
1-3 guests - up to 1 hour and 30 minutes
4-6 guests - up to 2 hours
Tables will be held for 15 minutes after the reservation time, at which point we will make the table available to our waitlist. Keep in mind that you will be dining outdoors and will be subject to San Francisco weather changes, so please dress accordingly.
In order to best take care of our guests and team we ask everyone to keep masks on while not actively eating or drinking. If you are feeling less than your best we do ask that you reach out about your reservation, we will gladly find a time to reschedule!

The team at Progress and State Bird have done a great job of pivoting during this pandemic. The food was exceptional and the staff was informative and operated smoothly considering all the adjustments that were required to happen to enjoy a meal!
Has the best COVID protocols of any restaurant I have been to yet. Weird to be eating this high quality food on compostable dishware and bus your own tables but I get it. Even though the duck was not on the menu they managed to prep for our party and Adam (the sommelier) provided excellent wine recommendations. All in all we had a great celebratory lunch despite the bad air quality on Saturday.
In the time of COVID, it's reassuring AND delicious to taste what you remember a restaurant's profile of flavors. Progress/SB does this superbly. It hasn't missed a beat working with a skeleton staff. The kitchen has not missed a step. Despite sitting on the sidewalk in 90-degree weather. the food tasted like I belonged. I was home.
Had a wonderful dinner in the booth and felt very safe because the servers made sure we wore masks at all times except when eating. The service and food was top notch. I would definitely go back soon.
The food was nowhere near where it was before. Looks fancy but taste like any regular restaurant.
We had the Spicy Bay Shrimp Salad (favorite item we ordered), Yuba al’Amatriciana (second fav item) and the BBQ Garlic bLack ribs (sauce was amazing but the rib cut could have been better. Too much fat on the bone and not enough meat for my taste).
Cute set up with the cabanas and COIVD friendly. Staff was attentive and kind, following all regulations. I really liked that you ordered using a QR code and paid for everything via the site. Our order was correctly executed and super quick, even our drink. Lovely experience.
In this crazy time we are living through, The Progress provided us with a little bit of normalcy. Staff was amazing, food was amazing and I felt super safe. Thank you!

The food was amazing as always and they were super accommodating for COVID.
The food is still amazing even though they have had to adjust to pandemic restrictions. No more dim sum style service, but you the bonus is getting dishes from both State Bird and The Progress. The sidewalk booths are wonderful and feel very safe for customers and wait staff!
An amazing dinner. I loved how they created the wooden booths outside on the sidewalk. The caviar potato cloud was the bomb!
The cozy outdoor booths protected from the wind and the food was delicious. We had a lovely lunch and the staff is overly careful regarding covid.
Really poor experience. Limited menu, paper plates, silverware, and napkins and absolutely no service. Wish I’d known before booking. I’ve dined at both State Bird and The Progress and had excellent experiences. The pandemic street side COVID experience, however, was no bueno.
The food was good but I expected a bit more. Sidewalk dining with digital ordering and all compostable dinnerware takes away a bit of the ambience. The spicy shrimp salad was a bit bland. Overall a bit pricey for what we received....

The combined menu of State Bird Provisions and The Progress bring the best hits together into a palatable display that is truly delicious. With outdoor separated cabana style seating you can enjoy your meal without the feeling of someone else breathing down your neck. I highly recommend getting a reservation and supporting a great restaurant.

The ambiance is rough, as it’s a plywood box “cabana” in a former parking spot on the street.
I am very happy they are back in any strange form....
What a treat, especially the fried quail...Not quite the ambience and service one would expect but in a pandemic, it's pretty solid. We were worried about getting rained on, but the table we were at was covered and quite comfortable.
With Covid, they are using compostable cups, plates, and utensils and ask that we bus our tables. The cabana seating was nice on a warm day at 2:00pm. We ordered and paid with our cell phone. We had 4-5 separate orders/receipts throughout our meal, hopefully they weren’t too annoyed with us.

Their covid-adjusted menu and ambiance is just as incredible an experience as their normal operations. So impressed with how they've maintained their level of service and quality while also making huge adjustments for safety and comfort.

The Progress is a great restaurant, my wife and I have enjoyed many a wonderful meal here. They adjusted well for covid. They're doing their very best. It's working.

We had a phenomenal date at The Progress. The salmon sandwich was delicious and my mouth is watering just thinking about it, two days later.
The staff takes special considerations for COVID and is clear with expectations from the moment you arrive. Every staff member was wearing a mask and observed social distancing. There was hand sanitizer available and tables were comfortably distanced.
We love visiting The Progress and State Bird and we were so happy to be able to enjoy a Sunday lunch with them again. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. A special shout out to Kaitlin (sorry if that’s the wrong spelling!) who has been so fantastic every time we have stopped by to pick up food and/or dine outdoors with The Progress.
Also, now that there’s outdoor seating, we are able to bring our dog with us! We will definitely be back soon and hopefully be able to get another delicious Salmon Sandwich.
I love what they have done to adapt to the new outdoor dining reality. The service was great and the staff was in good spirits. I felt the conditions were safe. We enjoyed the duck meatball subs, plum salad and French fries. The hostess was so friendly to everyone walking by.
During such times of uncertainty what more could you ask for from one of the tastiest dining establishments in San Francisco?
Staff are extremely friendly, and based on the patrons seated 6 feet away from us, the restaurant has a strong following of local supporters who they know on a personal level.
As always, the food at The Progress is exceptional. My favorites of the July 4th lunch menu were the corn salad and open faced fried eggplant sandwich, which per the chef, was an homage to a dish he had eaten at one of his first jobs at a restaurant.
If you can help it, don't forget to order the State Bird Provision's Lilikoi Strawberry donut holes. To describing as addicting is an understatement.
My only recommendation would be to exchange the furniture for maybe sturdier tables and chairs.
Regardless, I love The Progress and would do outdoor socially distanced lunch there again and again and again.

Fantastic service, our lovely woman who waited on us saw that in the end i hadn’t really enjoyed my cocktail, even though everything else was wonderful and delicious, and took it off our final bill. All of the staff was delightful and warm, which all felt genuine and not a performance. Delicious small dishes and a yummy main plate of BBQ duck...think Peking duck by way of Bangkok. Followed by an amazing mini donut desert and a shot of peanut milk....only small critique has to do with the noise level which is mostly unavoidable.
