The sticky ribs, polenta and lobster popovers were pretty good, but I wasn’t a fan of the cavatelli. The portion size was way too small for an entree and it was chewy with no flavor. I do love the cocktails here, Joe the bartender is awesome!
Waitstaff was nice but not prompt. Drinks came out very slowly, we had to request water refills, bill was brought without being asked about dessert or coffee. Otherwise we had a nice experience, and really enjoyed the food!
Service is very good; however, the food choices are limited. Chose the steak frites. The slices of meat were well-seasoned but tough at MR, and the plate was overfilled with shoestring fries - for $33. My husband chose the steak dinner and was really happy with it. We've been to this place twice, several years apart, and I think we'd rather choose one of the other great restaurants in the CWE in the future.
We have had at least half a dozen other meals at the Preston over the years. This was the least impressive, perhaps because it was mid-week between the Christmas and New Year holiday. We hope the overall quality has not slipped and word has gotten out, but the thought crossed our minds when we noticed there were few patrons. We had always given The Preston high marks for their beverage program, but not this night. Firstly, my Manhattan cocktail was notably skimpy. The glass was nearly filled with a single large ice cube. A thin column of liquid between cube and glass led to a cocktail having the color of a vodka tonic rather than the classic brown liquor drink. The proportion was off, with hardly any sweet vermouth in evidence. The food was generally very tasty; we sampled quite a few of the small plates and an entree. Standouts were the pork belly and Brussels sprouts dish and the ribs. The pretzel croissants were, as usual, show-stopping. (They are, in fact, worth a trip to this establishment.) A particular disappointment was the crab chowder. The chowder base was of a pasty texture and it’s overall taste was thin. We were pleased with our server, but we are hoping our next visit will match our prior happy impressions.
It was very good, as always. The server and staff paided attention to us and the food was superb. Creative and delicious.
My sister and I enjoyed our Christmas lunch/dinner at the Preston. The menu had a good range of options and the food was delicious and well-prepared. Our waiter was very good. I had the pork shank special and it was wonderful; my sister had the special pear/walnut/green salad and she enjoyed her food as well. We will definitely be coming back for other special occasions.
Our waitress was so kind and attentive. It was Christmas Eve and the place was fully booked, but we felt totally taken care of and not at all overcrowded. The food was to die for, well prepared and plated beautifully.
The hostess was best part of the evening. The Bartender was great and I suggest trying as many cocktails as possible to down the mediocre food. The small plates are all served at room temperature. The lamb meatballs were tasteless with a semi warm canned tomato sauce. We sent the crab chowder back. May it was the fact it was Xmas eve but it was a place I would never return.
Ok food. Awful service.
I took my boyfriend there for his birthday. We ate from the Brunch Buffet and it was delicious!!!😁 And our table hostess (I don't like the term waiyer/server), Ms. Kelly was wonderful and funny. It was a great date. Thank you and Happy Holiday!❤🙏🙏🎅😁🎁
Excellent service and delicious steak, good wine selection. I liked the atmosphere, classy but casual. Prices higher than the average, but it's worth a try.
Very attentive, not romantic at all. Steak was great.
Food and atmosphere were great, but the timing of the main dishes was way off. We all 4 received of meals at different times, and we were all finished before our final guest even had his meal. And it was not busy.
Great food in a lovely bar restaurant
Katie was an excellent service and our food was delicious!
Tasting menu with very interesting ingredients. All in all, we thought the five dishes we ordered were outstanding.
Excellent food and attentive service.
Visited the Preston about 5 years ago and had Sunday brunch there and it was fancy and the food and dessert presentation was amazing. Sadly, they have made the experience more casual after a remodel and the food was Shoneys quality at best.
The food was excellent and our server Jay was knowledgeable and passionate about the creative dishes on the menu. It was nice to be served by someone who truly enjoys their job. This was not our first visit to The Preston and it will not be our last. Great experience!!!!
small plates, great food and great variety. Service excellent, a bit expensive but worth the price. Had a nice time.
I asked for the waffles but with the sugar only on the side. My server brought out bare waffles with everything (except the cream cheese) on the side. I didnt understand why she would bring it to the table that way but I tried to go with it until I noticed the cream cheese drizzle was missing. So I asked for the drizzle and she brought me a solid scoop of cream cheese. A very simple request gone wrong.
Amazing food, drinks and service! The Apricot Lavendar dessert may be one of the best foods I have ever tasted. Will definitely return when back in St. Louis.
The french toast wasn't cooked well. The server was snarky when I asked her to repeat what she said about the coffee and then after dropping my check off, she didnt return. She did all of her side work and prepped other tables. Another woman saw me looking for my server and stepped in to allow me to pay and leave. Poor service.
Jay was simply outstanding.
Love this place. Very interesting food choices. Good seasonal fare. We would come here for the pretzel croissants alone though. Excellent wine offerings as well.
Love this place. One of the best restaurants in St. Louis, hands down.
I made a specific request for a round table due to having my deaf mother joining for brunch. Round tables make a big difference in conversation/communication when dining. When we arrived the guy at the host stand didn’t seem to care AT ALL that we had asked for something specific. In fact he didn’t seem to care that anyone was there - his attitude was one of indifference and his level of service reflected that. He needs to be moved to behind the scenes or let go because he is not welcoming the diner and setting the stage for an enjoyable experience.
That said, the server did a fairly good job (a little scattered but she was nice and seemed to care) and the food was very good and served hot which is always a bonus.
Bottom line: would I go back? Yes. But if the initial experience is not significantly better than the last time I’d turn around and walk out. Too many restaurants to patronize one that keeps employees that don’t care about the customer experience.
Father's Day and not enough help ... waited forever for service
It’s a great option for breakfast that I often forget about. The buffet is a good go-to option for a lazy Saturday or Sunday, but recommend a reservation.
First time there. Decided on it because a group was going to see a movie at the cinema and it was convenient. Food was very good. Liked the tapas theme. The Pork Belly with Brussel Spouts was the best as were all of the desserts.
Food was excellent. Liked the place
We loved the small plates style of this meal! Two dishes per person was the perfect amount, but we passed everything around and we all got to try each item. Everything was delicious! Specifically the pork belly and the octopus and the really interesting cocktail menu. What a fun night!
Delicious food, pricey but with quality to match, and friendly service. The only downside is that breakfast attracts a lot of loud hotel guests.
Always have a wonderful meal and experience at The Preston. Love the food and the service is always very professional, attentive, knowledgeable and welcoming.
Jay our server was great ....really educated my 15 year old daughter on taste and took the time to explain all the different foods to her. A great mom and daughter night- then off the Hamilton it was!!!
We stopped in for dinner before a show at the Fox. Our server, Jay, provided a wonderful experience! He was able to give excellent advice on cocktails (for someone like me who doesn't drink many cocktails) using his notes from a recent tasting. He was attentive and friendly and made sure we were out in time for our show, without feeling rushed. The charred octopus was one of the best things I've ever eaten, though everything we tried had unique flavors that had us looking back at the menu or asking the waiter about what we had just eaten. Highly recommend for the cocktails, shareable plates, and overall relaxed ambience.
Easter Breakfast was delicious.
Best meal I’ve had in St. Louis. Inventive, fresh, delicious menu. Nice wine list. Beautiful room. Really fabulous dining experience.
Great small plate food with a wide variety. The specialty cocktails were hit and miss. This was our second time back within a year and the quality of the drinks seems to have gone down slightly.
It was a very good meal in a great environment.
Service was great. Drinks were good. Food selection was horrible. My friends and I decided to just get drinks and eat elsewhere because the food was too adventurous for our palate. We did try the meatballs which were a funny color, mushy and very spicy.
