My friend and I decided to try the 3-course prix fixe menu. I had the short ribs and he had the salmon. They were both delicious! Appetizers were full-sized soup and salad (I love the beet salad, although a little less frisee might be in order) and dessert (carrot cake for him, panna cotta for me) were also delicious and just the right size. I love the Prado; we had a window seat and were able to look out over the outdoor seating and beyond. Our waiter Ben was attentive and very pleasant. Would definitely go back!

Excellent service. Understand price increases but flat bread that used to be included is now $3.95.

Disappointed. Very slow service, although I could see many servers in the area, it wasn’t clear to me what they were doing. Filling water glasses
No more bowls of hummus and crackers for appetizers, no more slaw on my Asian calamari. I was served a few strips in a big bowl, very sad looking. When I asked about the slaw, I was told they were short staffed!!! The Prado used to be a reliable favorite in Balboa Park? Sorry not to have it as a go-to anymore.

The Prado is such a nice place to eat, I've never had a bad experience in the 20 years I've been going. I highly recommend lunch on the patio and ordering calamari fries, yummy!!

My husband and I are native to San Diego but we’ve never dined at El Prado. For our anniversary, I thought it would be a good idea to have dinner there. It was easy to make reservations and upon arrival they were very prompt. The decor there is beautiful and the ambiance is romantic. Once we were seated we were welcomed by Beto our waiter. He was incredibly attentive and a pleasure over all. My husband ordered the steak and marinaded shrimp with a Yuzu soda drink. My husbands immediate reaction was, “hmmm”. This is so rare because his expectations are never met with the steak he orders. I ordered the special 3 course meal that they have until the 23rd of January. I had the farmers salad, the salmon, and the tres leches cake. The special is only $53 for three courses. It was ideal for me because I wanted a bit of everything. I also had a mock strawberry margarita, it was very tasty. Overall it was such an enjoyable experience. The place is pricey; however, my husband was okay making it a once a year thing.

Our server, Beto, was an absolute gem and charm.

However, we arrived 20 minutes early (no traffic) for our 32nd anniversary dinner reservation. We have been going to this restaurant for 20 years especially on our anniversary. We were told because of short-staffing we could not be seated until closer to our reservation time, 6pm. Mind you, this restaurant has 40 or so inside and outside tables, and maybe 10 had patrons. It was cold and just starting to sprinkle rain so we said, fine we will sit in the bar and have a drink. Host said we could not sit in the bar, we must wait outside and she will come fetch us closer to reservation time. Eventually we were seated at a fine table. Food: Appetizer: brussel sprouts: ok but Luke warm. Dinner: Surf and turf: fine. Beto, our server, was attentive without being overbearing and was so pleasant. Had it not been for Beto, I dare say we would not have stayed.

How wonderful to have The Prado ambience and still be spaced outside! The calamari appetizer is always our favorite, the paella, the mahi burger (huge), and the put- together -your -own tacos were all a hit. A nice way to welcome my French cousin to San Diego. Our server was great if only I remembered her name:)

My daughter and I stopped in for lunch after a walk through Balboa Park. We ate out on the patio which was beautiful. Service was unobtrusive, timely, and friendly. I had their signature Cobb Salad...excellent, as always. My daughter tried their steak sandwich and said it was delicious as well as her cappuccinos. Great experience!

Just a note for people who have frequented the Prado in the past...the hummus and crackers are now a charged item for $3.95.

Love the patio at the Prado. I hadn’t been there in several years and the food was always just average. I was hoping it was improved, however I was disappointed as it was still just average. It is a beautiful location and the service was good. I probably won’t go back in the near future because San Diego has so many restaurants with much better food.

Prado is a Balboa Park treasure! Our outdoor lunch experience was outstanding. Beautiful setting, relaxed atmosphere & friendly very professional staff. My wife and I both had nice crisp salads.
She also ordered a fish entree on her salad for additional $9.95. Very impressed with the nicely presented & generous piece of Mahi Mahi that was served. Definitely returning!

Overall we very much enjoyed our dinner. Our server Michelle was great! A couple of comments about the food. Appetizers- pressed arugula salad, beef sushi and garden salad were all very tasty. Sea bass was great. Paella was very disappointing. Crab dip wasn’t great. Short ribs were tasty but the carrots that came with it could have been cooked a bit more. Dessert - carrot cake and flan were good.
