Average food, pretty cool venue, probably more intended for the visiting tourist. Nothing was outstanding, prices are on the high side vs quality. In my opinion, this is a trait of the group that owns Prado, the Cohn group. None of their restaurants are great, just mediocre. If you're truly looking for an outstanding meal, try herb and wood or cowboy star

It is the most convenient place to eat before a play at the old globe. Otherwise very average food and service (we were behind a podium and hardly noticed by our server) for top prices. You definitely pay for the location.

The portions are small for the price, but the flavor is higher than expected. The sauces and dressings and the flat breads and hummus were delicious. The food was a bit over cooked and the short rib was dry. Surprising since we were among the first patrons of the evening.

The Prado is a great place to meet friends for lunch or dinner. Great menu, pretty reasonable prices. Parking nearby is difficult, but remember this is right in the middle of Balboa Park - everybody who visits San Diego comes to Balboa Park and the zoo. The Prado is a great restaurant with great food and very attentive service.

Great place to go for a leisurely dinner. Food is excellent and setting in Balboa Park is gorgeous. Try the lobster bucatini or the roast chicken. Make a reservation so you can be in the dining room overlooking the patio - still gorgeous & less noisy & touristy than outside or the bar.

The grilled portobello mushroom salad was mediocre.
The vinaigrette dressing overpowered the salad. The green bean side dish was tasteless. I don’t know how you can poorly cook green beans. My husband enjoyed his seafood
Pasta dish. The dinner was enjoyed by the other couple.
Previous dinner at your restaurant have been better.

What has happened to the food! Three of us had the prime pork, and none of us could eat the sides. The spuds were cloyingly sweet and inedible, and the greens were tasteless. We have been doing the date night Tuesdays before Globe theater for years, and this was a great disappointment. One of us had the short ribs, and his sides were poor as well. Why have you discontinued the regular old garlic mash spud? This is an instance where trying to “dress up” the standards has resulted in an epic fail. The salads were good...please don’t do anything to mess up those.
If I were to recommend the Prado, I would caution people to order something more familiar.

Three of us went to dinner at The Prado prior to seeing "The Tempest" at the Old Globe.
We had a great time. The waiter, Justin, asked if we were there to see a play and treated us accordingly. We ate light (two had salads only) and drank little. Still, the service, ambience and food were great.

I have eaten at The Prado twice, one time for dinner and one time for lunch. I was so looking forward to lunch because my dinner meal was outstanding. But it was not the case for lunch. I had the chicken BLT and it was the most flavorless sandwich I have ever had. The chicken was completely unseasoned and texturally terrible while the rest of the sandwich had absolutely no flavor. Total waste of a lot of money. I don't usually spend $25.00 (incl. tip) on lunch and I don't think it's out the question to expect delicious food for that money. I certainly hope that the restaurant hasn't succumbed to the adage of "it's a tourist restaurant and we'll never see most of these customers again, so what does it matter?" Very disappointed. But on the other hand, the service was lovely.

It's always like being at a party the moment you're seated in the festively decorated dining room. The service is attentive and the food is attractively presented--plus there's something for everyone on the menu. My friend and I had a wonderful 'catch-up' and were not rushed or hovered over, such a relief. Plus I encountered another friend before we were seated. All in all, a most satisfactory occasion.

A table for four old friends celebrating a birthday.......easy reservation made online the day before.........Tanner was our friendly, efficient server who explained dishes well. Two of us had the sea bass and it was delicious. My husband had the pork chop and really enjoyed that. Our only complaint was that it was rather loud in the main dining room which made conversation a bit difficult but other than that it was a lovely dining experience.

The Prado is a unique dining experience in San Diego. Located in the heart of beautiful Balboa Park, there is greenery, flowers and quiet all of which only enhance dining. The Date Night special evening on Tuesdays is a real bargain event also. The menu selections are truly delicious and the service makes for a really romantic night out. Congratulations to the Cohn Family for continuing this opportunity for locals as well as visitors to our great city to see and taste San Diego at its best.

So happy to be seated on the outside veranda! When we made reservation, this was not guaranteed, but the whole point of going to Prado is to sit on the lovely patio area in the back!
My friend from Florida was thrilled! Our server was professional, but sweet, attentive and knowledgeable. She recommended favorite alcoholic drinks & menu items. Loved the
hummus and crackers before the meal, Sangria was delicious! Crab cakes were yummy,
but a third one on the plate would have made the hefty price tag worthwhile. Loved the
shrimp cobb salad and my friend was thrilled with grilled chicken ciabatta. We stayed for
almost 3 hours and would highly recommend this venue - if you can get on the back patio

The Prado Restaurant is located within Balboa Park in San Diego ,CA in an elegant
Spanish style building complete wth courtyard and beautiful outside seating area. The inside reminds me of many lovely dining experiences in Spain--delicious , varied menu with some Spanish specialties, as well as other well prepared continental menu choices. The decor is Authentically Spanish; brings back many memories. A very warm and inviting experience. Impeccable service and friendly waiters. All in all, a great evening.

The Prado recently introduced a new menu and new wine list. The wait staff were still fairly unfamiliar with the wine list, but sent over the sommelier and provided tastes of 2 choices. We ordered 4 different dinners and they were all fantastic, with portions that were large enough but not too much, leaving room for the strawberry creme brulee, which was also very tasty. The outside patio is quieter than inside and great on a warm evening.
