I was very excited to go to the Pink Grouse because the hotel is so beautiful and I was looking forward to a meal in a restaurant given our current pandemic situation. The furniture and decor was a bit basic in comparison to the rest of the hotel, but the food was what I was really interested in. The menu is great, good variety, nice locally sourced ingredients. However, the preparation, seasoning/flavoring, and taste were really disappointing. Between the three of us our entrees were either over salted, under cooked or just bland. I'm not sure if they're trying to still work out the menu or the talent is just not there in the kitchen, but for prices comparable to NYC, I expect food that tastes a lot better. I'll stick to the cocktails at the bar for now.
Service was extremely slow and inconsistent. Waiters cared more about clearing dishes then looking if customers needed some help.
The food was incredible and the ambiance was wonderful. The servers were very knowledgeable about the food, efficient, and kind. I went for a romantic dinner and it was perfect. Slightly pricey for the amount of food you get, but I thought it was worth it for the ambiance and quality of the food. I would definitely go back.
An interesting experience with food that comes very close to matching the excellent ambiance. Our server was very accommodating and answered all our questions on the menu. They even tailored a dish to my dietary preference. Food and experience was worth the price - you won't leave stuffed but overall you will feel like it was worth it.
Good-bye dinner for our son.
I thought the food portions were adequate for the price and style of cuisine. Service was exception, cocktail delicious. The food was pretty spot on. I would recommend.
Great Ambiance / Service.
The food did not deliver, at all. We started with their salad - it was gross and confusing. We then had the duck and the risotto. Their food just lacks flavor and missed the mark. For the price and the size of the menu, was pretty disappointing. If you only have 6 mains they better be classics. Does not stack up against Mas, Bang, TEN, Zocalo... maybe get drinks, just for the ambiance, but I would not recommend it for a meal. Highest price for lowest delivery I’ve had in a while.
Service (Beth) was excellent. She was there but didn’t hover. Food was just okay. A bit bland- I had to ask for salt. My two companions said the chicken dish was very good but they said it tasted like chicken noodle soup. Please take Bloody Butcher grits off the menu. The name alone is off putting and I would think it’s hard for your servers to sell. Not really a name that makes your mouth water and they weren’t that good anyway. We’ve been before and the food was really good. Perhaps we just ordered the wrong things.
Manager was nice. Young service assistant cleared our table but stacked all of our plates in her hands. Needs some additional training on clearing but she was so lovely, so not knocking her- she’s learning. Such a gorgeous property. We will be back, of course.
All style, no substance. The space and atmosphere are amazing - just beautiful. We sat outside which was lovely except for the barking dog at the next table (seriously dog people, I have no issues with your pet sitting next to me while I eat $150 meal but put a muzzle on them) Our server was cheerful ...until the problems started and then nowhere to be found. We ordered cocktails and the server proceeded to tell us that the Pink Grouse is one of those places so annoyingly prevalent in C-ville where you are told to order 3 or 4 meals each in order to get enough to eat. That's what TAPAS is, not regular dinner (i.e. $26 chicken). We were then basically forced by the server to order our entire meal - appetizers and entrees all at once - so that the kitchen could "properly stage". OK, done. About 45 seconds later our appetizer arrived. Guess the kitchen was all staged! No drinks yet. Oysters "Rockefeller" style decently portioned and pretty good if not a little odd (brussels sprouts instead of spinach). Handsome Dining Companion ordered the octopus and received ONE tentacle. Less than 1/8th of an octopus. It was absolutely delicious. After we finished fighting over a 1/2" by 4" piece of mollusk...still no cocktails, however we took note of the server bringing the aforementioned dog a nice bowl of water while we sat confused with dirty plates. About the time we finally flagged someone down to ask where the drinks were our entree arrived. Followed closely behind by our cocktails. Nothing like roast chicken chased down with a G&T. My $26 chicken was, no exaggeration, about 1 oz of chicken chopped up into bits in a nice sauce with some corn and green beans and 6 gnocchi. HDC had fettucine with mostly inedible duck due to intact silver skin. Dirty plates again. Having realized that nothing good was happening at Table 22, server never returned except to bring the check. $100+ meal. Still hungry afterward. And pretty cross.
Pink Grouse is close to being great, but just misses. The atmosphere, service and plates are top notch, but...there simply isn’t enough food (especially at the price point). The good news, they could easily fix the problem by balancing the dishes with a bit more pasta or rice or sides - and it wouldn’t remake the food. Or, offer up some bread or something more filling. Really great place, but it’s not quite “dialed in” for the level they are playing at. Hope to return if they can tweak it just a bit.
The food here is absolutely delicious! The general manager is very nice and our server Beth was phenomenal! I highly recommend this place!
Our dinner at the Pink Grouse was one of the best meals we have had in Charlottesville in a long time. Would absolutely recommend and we look forward to going back soon.
The food is very flavorful and interesting and the courtyard was lovely. Our only complaint is that the portions are extremely small and the steak literally just came with one small mushroom and a piece of an onion. No vegetables, not even offered as a side. We had to ask as a special request to have some veggies. The peach salad was delicious and sublime, the crab pasta was flavorful but very very small amount (and we are typical fine dining eaters who eat small portions). The chicken gnocchi was okay. The semifreddo and the watermelon sorbet were delicious.
We celebrated our anniversary at Pink Grouse. I had read reviews prior about the small portion size but I didn’t mind as long as the dish was of high quality and complex in flavor. Pink Grouse delivered neither. The portions are absurdly small. Not only are they small, but the ingredient’s cost is minimal. I ordered the chicken and gnocchi and received chunks of chicken thigh, a few gnocchi and some green beans and corn. My husband ordered the crab and pasta... there were like 3 lumps of crab and that was it. We ate outside, which was lovely and it was fun to peak in the hotel. The rooftop restaurant had a 2 hour wait, or we would have had some appetizers to satisfy our hunger! We will go back to celebrating the rest of our special occasions at Duners when they reopen!
We had a lovely dinner outside. We managed to finish just as the rain started. I would highly recommend The Pink Grouse as a wonderful place for delicious outdoor dining.
Not flexible on menu at all
Fabulous food and drinks, great space, warm and attentive service.
Exquisite, creative dishes. Exceptional service. Wonderful location and great ambience.
The Pink Grouse was quite lovely and the food was delicious. The Octopus starter was very tasty and the seabass over the rice with red onion marmalade, coconut curry and cilantro was divine!!! Its a very new restaurant and I definitely recommend going.
Service was very good and would be 5* but I could not hear any of the servers through the masks. They really need to speak up and project as the music is also up pretty high.
The other less than 5 is the ambiance. This place is brightly lit, almost too bright and I felt there was no ambiance at all. The decor is okay, nothing special and the kitchen is so brightly lit that I feel dropping lighting down some would only enhance the dining experience. There is a seating area with benches but it was too dark.
The food is definitely worth the visit.
Fourth excellent meal at the Pink Grouse. Service by Lauren was excellent and friendly. She made us all feel special. Ken the manager does a superlative job making guests feel special and ensuring that they have a wonderful evening. The bass, octopus, grilled peach and the signature Hemingway and Pink Grouse drinks are particular favorites. Thank you.
Food was great but everyone left hungry. For the price, your restaurant should be giving people value. Unfortunately won’t return and won’t recommend
There are 5 star fine dining and 5 star sports bars. This is different but excellent. The food was very creative with combinations I have never seen. For example, the black bass in coconut curry over a fried rice cake. So many tastes but still able to let you appreciate the wine. Well done!! The service was excellent and very friendly, even behind a mask. The place is a bit loud but its avant garde decor make it all work. Can't wait to get back.
Dinner at the Pink Grouse was absolutely magical! Tiffany and Ken did a fantastic job ensuring we were well fed and hydrated! The decor is fantastic. We felt like we were transported to a luxurious resort. We can’t wait to go back.
Well done! Considering the times the entire team did an outstanding time. The Host was all over it. Servers where attentive and engaging and the food was fantastic. Was a great experience.
The service and food impeccable
The decor not so much The decor does not coincide with the uniqueness and quality of the food
We planned a 3 day getaway from DC and stayed at the Quirk Hotel. We chose The Pink Grouse to celebrate our 38th wedding anniversary. Though the interior dining room is quite nice we opted to eat outdoors on the patio. The entire staff was pleasant, welcoming, attentive, and worked to make the evening a great experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the Summer Melon Gazpacho and Roasted Peach. Of special note were the Local Harvest Strip and Black Bass. Cocktails were very good and we finished our meal with the Pickled Watermelon Sorbet.
The gemelli pasta dish was almost inedible. The steak was very rare, it was almost like they were trying too hard to be trendy
The food was amazing and very attentive service!!
AMAZING, so creative, such a seamless concept
An exceptional experience all the way around. From starters to desserts the food is wonderful and should not be missed. The Black Bass and Harvest Strip were superb. The service was top notch. Our server Beth was attentive, knowledgeable, and extremely helpful with suggestions. Her advices and recommendations were spot on. While we were guests of the hotel, The Pink Grouse is well worth a visit even from outside the Charlottesville area. We will be back.
Phenomenal food and service.
Realize it is new...small plates were very good. Clam Chowder Pasta was ok but too salty and heavy. Espresso was weaker than regular coffee. Growing pains?
Food, service and atmosphere were outstanding! Will definitely return.
