About this restaurant

  • Lively
  • Hot spot
  • Neighborhood gem
From it’s humble beginnings as a pop-up restaurant, to a farmer"s market stand and now a successful brick-and-mortar eatery, The Pig and the Lady, led by twice-nominated James Beard semifinalist Chef Andrew Le (with help from his family including his mother, Mama Le), cook up what is essentially the family meal in the truest sense -- Exposing Honolulu diners a cross-section of cuisine that has Vietnamese origins, but is eclectic and daring.Chef Le and his team have developed a modern, fresh take on traditional Southeast Asian food, utilizing local products -- serving their famous banh mi and pho, along with new favorites. Le is the one of the few chefs cooking contemporary food built on Southeast Asian flavors that has garnered rave reviews -- a foundation built on delicious memories first introduced by his mother. They are open Monday through Saturday, serving lunch and dinner. You can also still find them at the Farmer’s Markets at Blaisdell, Kailua and KCC.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Andrew Le

From the OpenTable editors: At The Pig and the Lady, James Beard semifinalist Andrew Le whips up modern Southeast Asian dishes that celebrate his Vietnamese heritage and local ingredients. Settle into a communal table in the cozy, brick-lined dining room for a feast that could include escargot with green curry sauce and lamb leg steak frites. Pro-tip: Come at lunch for the pho French dip, starring 12-hour-roasted beef brisket and a side of the restaurant’s signature pho 75.

We had a phenomenal dinner at The Pig and The Lady. Sat at the bar and service was great. The Vietnamese/Asian fusion cuisine knocked our socks off! Shared the happy pancake and 1/2 chicken and it was more than enough food for the two of us. For dessert, the soft serve mango&sticky rice custard swirl was refreshing and light. Shared a bottle of Riesling kabinett that really matched well. If we lived here, this would be our go to place.

We make a point to come to this restaurant every time we are all in Oahu! And it never disappoints. This time we were ordering off their new Summer menu, and even though most of the words we could not understand or we did not know what that food product would be, other than the obvious Lam, Octopus, etc. everything we ordered was absolutely delicious with fantastic taste combinations. They are only items we thought were unnecessary for our evening enjoyment, where the three appetizers bites that we shared. The bomb was good. Highly recommend the chicken wings, which were as good as everybody says they are and quite meaty and filling. We also have the cucumber cold appetizer, and it was stunningly delicious. And we had the lamb, which was a little bit Mediterranean with a really delicious sesame based Asian take on pita bread. Again flavor combos were amazing. The people beside us ordered some main courses, and while they did look delicious, I firmly believe this is the kind of place where you order as many tasting plates as possible and share the experience versus having your own main course. The location, while may feel a little sketchy at first, is quite amazing and is growing each time we go with more and more phenomenal looking restaurants and bars. It’s just a fun happening place to go, especially on a Friday or Saturday evening Hot tip, if you can’t get a reservation, you can lineup outside their door and they open at 5:30 for walk-ins until they’re full of walk-ins and planned reservations. And if you can’t make it to Chinatown at night, stop by one of the three farmers markets around the city, they have a pop-up!

Not great service (waited an hour for mains). Bathroom is gnarly. Food was cold and over salted. Overall not bad but not worth the price.

It's been a month and a half since our last visit here, and menu prices have gone up by a dollar on many of the popular items. Still, the food is excellent, the service friendly and attentive, the ambience is comfortable even though there's a full house of people and lots of talking. The summer menu has just come out, and although many of the dishes look the same, they are not. There are new innovative sauces put on the meat and fish, and all of them are superb. Highly recommend coming here, if you haven't before
