Sleek and sexy. Love the white and black contrast and the open structure to the kitchen. We enjoyed the vegetarian menu and each dish was thoughtful and exciting. The service was impeccable as well. We will be back.
A very memorable meal in every regard! Food and drink were spectacular as were the impeccable service with attention to detail.... we traveled from New Orleans for this evening and the Pass did not disappoint!
What a wonderful evening with a terrific menu. After reading a few of the negative comments about The Pass that people wrote I am at a loss if they went to the same place! Each course was great. The presentation and the wine pairings of each were perfect and the price is very reasonable. I have been to price fix menu places with a wine pairing that were 30 -40 dollars more. And watching the kitchen staff do their thing is very special. The head chef even served one of the dishes to all in the place. It is A one and our server, Derek was the best. He didn't rush us at all when we wanted to sip on a martini first.
There wasn’t one menu item that we were blown away by, though the food was pretty. A few of the people working were stiff and unjustly proud. We spent a lot of money and an anniversary celebration on an experience that we can only describe as “meh”.
I had an amazing diner at The Pass. You access the gastronomic restaurant by pushing a hidden door in a tapas bar from the lobby. It's like a hidden gem. Outstanding service, meals, tastes and wine list. Worth a michelin star.
One of the best meals of my life! Amazing service and wine pairing
This was our second visit. Our first was above average in every way! We were looking forward to our second visit. We left disappointed. We has 6 courses. I had the cocktail pairing and my wife had the wine.
The dishes were lackluster in flavor and we found that the temperatures of the dishes off. Service was fine but could not make up for a very expensive meal that we did not enjoy. We were told that concepts had changed since our previous visit in May 2017. We much preferred the latter.
The Pass had some of the best food I have ever eaten. If it were in a Michelin city, it would definitely have a few stars for the service and for the food. The tasting menu is superb and the drink pairing (we got the cocktail/drinks one instead of the wine one) was outstanding and a must try with the food pairing. All the food and the drinks were highly detailed and unique and truly incredible. I can not recommend the Pass highly enough. Also, it’s quite affordable for such an intimate, high quality dining experience. There is no particular dress code but most patrons were dressed up a bit.
What an incredible meal!!! Nothing better than being told what the ingredients in a dish are and still having no ability to comprehend what flavors will be evident with the first bite. Such a great mix of ingredients/flavors/textures/colors- kept us delightfully fooled for the whole meal.
Awesome as usual! From the ‘WOW’ factor when entering the dining room, the impeccable service from a talented and knowledgeable staff, each wonderful course and brilliant wine and cocktail pairings, right through to chatting with the Head Chef at the end of the evening - a fantastic and memorable evening.
First time back since they changed the pricing and menu. Everything was great and will return more often.
Early Valentines Day dinner
Coolest experience that my wife and I have ever had!
The vegetarian menu was very good. Their use of simple ingredients really helped to keep the dishes light and not too heavy. My favorite was the tempura romanesco with edible flowers, curried raisins and pickled barley. I was surprised at the chew of the barley. It gave the dish a little more weight and made the course more filling. Their play with textures was good with each dish too, varying from chewy, crunchy and smooth. I'm not a massive fan of dairy because of its heaviness, but the dishes did not use an excessive amount of cheese or diary products - just enough to provide a tangy and sharp taste.
It was a nice quiet setting - perfect for a date.
The waiters were all very knowledgable and the service was very good.
This place is just perfect! The food was elegant. Derek and Nick were superb in service and the dishes didn’t disappoint
Wine paired nicely with food, each course was unique and delicious, service attentive and well informed, romantic date atmosphere, loved the music
The secret door to the dining room is neat. The atmosphere is fine, but quite loud as the tables are close to each other. I guess they try to fit as many tables as possible in the room. If you sit next to the kitchen, you would be able to be see how they prepare the food. The value for the food is average. It’s like you get what you pay for. The food is mostly earth tone in colors, not very appealing. On one dish, they cover 90% of ingredients with a huge black blob which turns out to be quite salty. Overall taste for the dishes is bland. Wine paring is above average. I would come back here just for wines.
Our experience at The Pass was nothing short of amazing. The food was outstanding, and the service was impeccable. We did the wine and cocktail pairings along with our tastings, and it was such a fun and enjoyable dinner. Also, the ambience was perfect - not too quiet, not too pretentious, just perfect. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and everyone looking for an upscale dining experience!
We enjoyed every course! My partner ordered a glass of wine off the menu and I took the pairings--this gave us a chance to share a bit without having too much. The wines paired beautifully and were very different from each other. After, with a little browsing, I found that several were quite difficult or impossible to buy even online, without ordering internationally. So a great chance to try new tastes. Service was courteous, very well-informed, patient with questions, efficient but unhurried. Great team effort.
Our experience was wonderful as always, with beautiful ambiance, excellent service, and amazing , creative servings that were far more surprising and tasty than the menu could describe!
We had a wonderful time! The food was excellent, the drink pairings were spot-on, and the service was impeccable. Definitely a treat to be savored.
We have been before and had an excellent experience, so our expectations were high. This time we invited extended family, and ended up being embarrassed in front of them by our service. We asked a question about the possibility of changing some of the menu items for our daughters who decided to join us last minute. We were simply curious if it was a possibility, and would have been fine if he just said it wasn’t possible. But, the manager responded very rudely. He approached our table and said: “it appears you are confused by our service here... we can put you in our other restaurant if this menu doesn’t suit you”. It was said in an aggressive manner and my sister-in-law almost reprimanded him on the spot, but we convinced her not to due to the fact that we were trying to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday. It really cast a shadow on the entire evening, and on our memory of our first experience there... which had been wonderful. I won’t be able to recommend The Pass anymore.
Fabulous food and service. The whole experience was orchestrated to fully respect and appreciation the art of dinning. The use of amazing ingredients masterfully developed to create unique flavors and wonderful dishes.
Our third anniversary celebrated at The Pass. They always surprise and delight with their creative use of ingredients and presentation. Wine pairings are great and usually something we have never tried. Very comfortable setting and the service is excellent and friendly. Our 5 course meal paired with wines was $105 per person which was a bargain given the quality, service and atmosphere. We are big fans. Definitely will return for our next anniversary.
For a New Year's Eve dining, they were ON.
(Most NY Eve's are extreme disappointments!)
6 of the 7 courses were fabulous (skip the squab, tough, and tasteless)
Even with one course miss the other 6 were unique and extremely flavorable.
Still one of the best in Houston for fine dining.
Excellent, knowledgable service.
Outstanding. Top notch dining in a minimalistic, beautiful and peaceful atmosphere. Unintrusive, superior service that is simultaneously impressive and unpretentious. Don't wait to experience this gem.
Second visit to this restaurant. Both times to celebrate Anniversary. Very nice atmosphere and ambience and service very attentive but food not quite as delicious as 1st time around. On the tasting menu, two of the five dishes were great but the other three not quite knock your socks off tasting (at least not these socks).
Beautiful setting, love the styling, good atmosphere. The staff tries very hard, plenty of staff, would not say greatest service ever though.
Really like not having too much choice. There's a meat/fish tasing menu and a vegetarian menu. Can expect the kitchen to focus their efforts on a few things only and have the best quality and results. I thought 4 of the 5 courses were very good, loved the ravioli filled with pork, but thought the first course, the shrimp, was unworthy and below par (simply said, one gulf shrimp, cut in 4 and a few sauce dots placed around it) and a underwhelming start of the dinner.
I would give them another try depending on the courses offered and I would also be tempted to try the vegetarian option. Nevertheless a very refreshing 'European' experience as an alternative to the abundance of steak, BBQ and mexican restaurants we end up at too often.
Hadn't been in maybe a year. Was pleasantly surprised that pricing was more reasonable - in fact, a bargain. $65/head + optional $40/head for wine or beverage pairing.
You can select the protein or slightly smaller veg tasting menu. All 4 of us chose the former. All the food was creative and tasty. Service very good.
Only down was slow on cocktails and 2 of the 4 were not up to par (the waiter said "no one has ever ordered that before" - that was a clue).
Place was almost packed but you could still converse.
A very enjoyable meal and certainly in the top 10 dining spots in Houston.
Phenomenal food, atmosphere and service.
Wonderful staff, cool table location, very special night !
Wonderful holiday dinner with friends. Very accommodating of various food allergies and every course was impeccable. I will definitely return!
We went to The Pass for our wedding anniversary. It did not disappoint! The food was fantastic and paired really well with the wine suggestions!
The Pass remains one of our favorite restaurants to celebrate special occasions! We love an extended menu of exquisite dishes with paired wines (quite hard to find in Houston!). Our server was very accommodating when we asked to leave some time in between the different courses, that was great! After all these years, still the same point of criticism: it would be so nice if you would serve some amuse-bouches with the champagne! It would make a great meal closer to perfection! One other disappointment: we added the cheese option to our menu ($15/person), but that turned out to be a lot of bread with only one small piece of cheese...
My husband and I took a work colleague and his wife to dinner as a thank you for a very large favor. The food was incredible, and proven so as one in our party is a less adventurous eater, and was won over to new experiences with each dish. The service was exceptional from the moment we arrived until we left--truly one of the best meals we have had in our lives. At the high cost, it won't be a regular stop for us, but if you're looking for a special experience and incredible quality, you won't be disappointed.
We loved every minute, from the champagne cart to the dessert. We added a cheese course. The wine pairing was superb and the service perfect.
Excellent interesting tasting menu and superb service
First time here and it was amazing!
