Wish noise level was lower, service faster, food better. Overall disappointing this time
Wonderfully delicious salmon and soft crab dinners. Excellent presentation. Kale salad was picture perfect. Efficient, congenial hostess and waitress!
Limited menu. Would have liked more options. Was hoping for a selection of Belgian or Belgian styled beers.
We miss you!!!
Always delicious with excellent service. Food is beautifully presented.
Great place to hangout with friends, in large part due to both physical quality and amazing beer list. Truly has a neighborhood feel. I've been there a number of times this summer and will definitely be back.
The only thing I"d recommend, if possible, is an expanded menu. It's solid, but could use even more choices -- especially for vegetarians. Still, they do very well with what they have.
Been to Nickel countless times and love the burgers and apps, but the kitchen always messes up one or more items. The bacon on my cheeseburger was just a cut of fat so we asked for a new piece and they brought it. No nickel sauce on the cheeseburger, so they brought it. Key lime pie was not good, so they offered ice cream but were out of the flavor we asked for. So no dessert. Servers tried to help and didn't charge us for the pie but they took soooooo long to do everything. Painful. It's just not worth it.
The beer menu is top notch. Also good for wine and spirits.I’ve always thought that the food is overpriced, given it’s slightly-better-than-mediocre quality.
A very nice meal and nice atmosphere.
Great selection of beers. Unfortunately, those of us who ordered rare burgers were served burgers that were closer to medium.
Friendly attentive service. Fun beer and wine choices. Love the wedge salad, yummy fries and soft shell crab sandwich. If you have room; desserts are sweet, yummy and more than enough to share!
Only problem was we were served the smallest soft shell crabs I have ever seen. Really outrageous for $30 !!!
The food and beer was outstanding, the atmosphere was friendly and warm, and our server was helpful and gave us just the right amount of attention. We will be back! The soft-shell crabs were particularly delicious!
The food and ambiance was excellent. Great service, will definitely be back again.
Excellent food as always. One of our regular hang outs. Great service, always willing to ensure we are satisfied. Can’t go wrong with any oyster chosen. Always fresh. I am never disappointed.
Fantastic food. Everything is made in-house. Service was great. I really liked the simple decor, especially in a world of cute places with mediocre food. It was nice to have good food in a relaxed environment.
I think more gluten free options would be great!
This is my second time at this restaurant and overall the experience was good. I went to the bar to wait for my party and it took a while for a bartender to even be at the bar let alone get service which was disappointing. However, the cocktails and appetizers made up for the initial lackluster impression. For dinner, the food was great and the service was excellent. The music was a bit loud for a mostly empty restaurant on a Monday night during a massive rain storm which made conversation a bit challenging. I would go again especially for happy hour which looked excellent.
Second visit, disappointed. Menu limited, food not up to par. Not planning on returning
We had a loyalty card and intended to use the $20 that was already on it. With previous visits the server has asked if we wanted to use the credit before the transaction was processed but this server didn’t ask and then told us the transaction couldn’t be canceled therefore we couldn’t use any of our credit towards that night’s meals. What made it especially unfortunate is that we were celebrating and went to one of your restaurants with the intention of using our credit to save some money since we’re both on a budget so we were very disappointed when it turned out that we would not be able to so. Eating out is a luxury for us and something we really enjoy but that experience put a damper on our night.
It was very hot in Baltimore so I knew it would be a little warmer than normal but I was very, very hot.
I got a crab cake sandwich. It was so bad I couldn’t eat half of it. $17 for a small-ish crab cake was bad enough but for inedible - ridiculous. The bun was slathered with tartar sauce. Never in my life have I gotten a crab cake with tartar sauce already on the bun. It’s always on the side. The reason it was on the bun already was because the crab cake was all filler and tasteless. The menu said it came with cole slaw and pickles. The pickles were tasty but I got 2 chips - 1 dime sized and 1 quarter sized. Hardly seemed worthy of mentioning on the menu. It’s like saying the oysters came with lemons.
Loved the oysters....,.the rustic decor . Staff was welcoming
The staff is always friendly, and the food always great. Worth it every time.
Great beer selection, cocktail (cosmo for wife) was great, soft-shells were superb and totally creative on a bed of grilled broccolini and bbq'd black-eyed peas. Excellent and fresh salads.
Had a wonderful get together with a few friends. The food was delicious, the service was impeccable. May end up making it our go to spot for our regular gatherings!
Wasn't my first time and I wasn't disappointed. We wanted something slightly above bar food in a friendly casual atmosphere where we could hear each other. I would go back any time.
Food was mediocre at best. We waited for over 30 mins for roasted oysters which lacked flavor. Then about an hour longer for our dinner. We dont mind waiting... at all. As long as the food is amazing and the drinks keep coming, no biggie. But while our waiter was very attentive, we waited 15-20 mins for each round of drinks, my pork chop dinner tasted like a lousy blue apron meal and my husbands crab cake sandwich came on a very dry caraway seed bun. Not good. Shocked this place is owned by the same people as birrotecca.
Amazing as always...especially the Brussel sprouts.
Brunch is amazing!! Vibe is great for couples and kids. Service is laid back and excellent. Biscuits are a must!!
Really good food... I ordered the 10oz Works burger and was silly enough to try to eat the whole thing. So much food, I should have taken half of it home! But exceptionally tasty and interesting. Good drinks list also.
Food and was unusually bad this visit and it took about 35-40 minutes for a burger, kids pasta and mussels to come out. Waitstaff was nice, but the wait was way too long for food that wasn’t up to par. Hoping they correct this soon as we love this neighborhood joint.
Great food, excellent service. We will be back.
Only one server, she did her best, however I had to go up and get a glass of wine as a 16 top came in right before us.
Management was kinda slow to help her.
She did the best she could. Another 6 people there beside my 2 top and the 26
We had the salmon pastrami and it was innovative and tasty. The beer is always good as are the oysters.
We wanted to love this place but instead we were very disappointed. The menu was very limited and the entrees were not that good. The roast beef in the French dip was tough, the gnocchi pasta was very dense (only pasta dish on the menu) and there was no chicken on the menu. Salad was a bunch of large leaves on a plate with a few nuts and veggies on the side. We won’t be back.
Meal took a long time to come out and was over slightly cooked. First menu selection for meal and wine was no longer available (salmon, wine)
Oysters were great, as always. Would love to have two oyster forks. They always bring one. Kale salad was a delicious stand out. Server very slow but got the job done. A little more attention would have worked wonders when it ends up being $100 for two but I keep coming back.
Extremely cool vibe and excellent food with a twist to go with!
Pro - Food taste & ambience
Con - Price for food portion were terrible. $15 sandwich was super small, the larger was $18, and didn’t include fries. Fries were 6.50. So if you want both you are at 21.50-24.50. NOT even close to worth it. Plus our waiter tried to upsale at least 3-items per meal. If I said yes, my meal would have been an easy 30+ for BAR food def strike 1.
Our waiter was very friendly, but.. I told him I didn’t like skinny fries, and he said they are deffinilty not skinny, but when they came out they looked like tooth picks. Lie 1 & strike 2.
Never brought a beer. This could happen anywhere, I’ll say foul ball.
Strik 3, make sure you have time. The service was sloooow.
All and all, I’m going with 3-stars. This place could easily be so much better. A good start would be to ditch the coleslaw & give people fries at the same cost.
We returned to Nickel Taphouse after staying away for quite a while as the noise level was so unpleasant. Whatever you installed to help absorb ambient noise is brilliant! We sat in a booth towards the back and were really very pleased with the change. I
We will continue to enjoy casual weekday dinners here and when our family visits from New York your roast beef sandwiches are always a must!
BTW: Our waiter was terrific! Took very good care of us with out being intrusive.
