The New York Restaurant
Great cocktails, don’t miss the Polish Dinner, which is a vodka martini garnished with housemade pickled veggies.
Excellent food. The charcuterie plate was huge (the one critical remark was that it could use a bit more mustard and preserves, considering the stack of meats and cheeses). The pierogies were tasty. The real star was the stuffed cabbage, which was probably the best I’ve had, somehow managing to be light and flavorful, and held its form without being too greasy or overcooked.
A great spot for dinner if you’re in the area.
The waitress was fabulous. Food outstanding. Always a great decision to eat there
Charming Catskill eatery. And great Polish specials!
Fish was good vegetarian meal ok service great
Specials and drink specials good
Absolutely awesome! Great food. Amazing service
Friendly service, good food!
We visited NY Restraunt for a late lunch on 2/15/2020 with a party of seven. Our table was ready as per our reservation and we were greeted by friendly and courteous staff. The restaurant was cold, drafty and dark. Our drink order was taken and delivered promptly. Shortly after, our food order was taken, but it took nearly 70 minutes for our food to be served. After the long wait several items were served cold and unappetizing. We discussed returning the items, but having been seated for 90 minutes at that point nobody was interested in extending the visit. Overall our meals were decent and prepared as ordered, but I feel the food is overpriced for the area. During our wait, the staff seated another small group uncomfortably close to us which made any normal conversation awkward in spite of multiple empty available tables. Having been to NY Restaurant twice now in the last 6 months we will not be returning.
Vday Food was fair I’ll give it a break BC it’s valentines day. Had to wait even though we had a res and wee late 15 minutes so again vday.
The charcuterie was ok but picked means pickeled not vegetables doused in vinegar and they should be in turines not just on a plate which caused the vinegar to saturate everything .
The steak was cold/warm and the lobster over cooked again vday so a bit of a pass. But the dessert a Tiramasu needs to be moist this dessert was stale and basically some cake so a fail.
The hero was the kale chips amazing side dish that makes up for the rails.
It’s a polish bar so they should have had some polish beer and some polish deserts the stout I had was good but no Guinness? Should have left then lol in fact that’s my new policy no Guinness and I leave .
Overall great restaurant and will return. Great atmosphere. Food, although quite pricy was good. The cauliflower wings were awesome. I got the arugula salad with tempeh. I think that brought the salad cost to like 17 bucks. The salad was tasty, but the tempeh was dry and bland.
After a glass of wine, the wing appetizer, two salads and an espresso it was $75 with tip. A pretty expensive lunch.
1st time there. Very enjoyable meal was had by all 4 of us.
Tried a specialty drink with tequila.....very good
Will definitely recommend and will be back soon. So much more we'd like to try!
A must try in Catskill! Great place to celebrate a special occasion.
The service is absolutely wonderful, friendly and efficient !! The drink specials outstanding. An absolute wonderful dining experience
New York Restaurant was
Food and cocktails were delicious. Can’t say enough good things about the pierogis, and buffalo cauliflower. The short ribs were tender & saucy, and the kielbasa is delicious with the rye sauerkraut.
French onion soup has good flavor, but the bread was not toasted enough, and the cheese was not blistered. Soup could have been thicker.
Great ambiance, friendly service and a budget friendly wine list. Definitely worth an evening spent here.
Great food wonderful place will
Go back again
It’s a bit pricey but I don’t mind paying for it when the food is exceptional, which this was! Considering it was New Year’s Eve, service was quick and wait staff super friendly.
Waited years since New York Restaurant of Catskill NY opened to travel up from the NYC area to try them as I have mutual friends in the area, who are part of the owners family! Finally made it and was excited to be there. I thought overall the food was OK. I'm removing two stars from this review. One removed because a restaurant that prides itself on Polish fare, their pierogi were small and overly doughy, with only 3 offered for nearly $7. Plain boiled with no searing in butter, I thought them unworthy of their home made heritage. The Truffle Brussels Sprouts dish was far too salty. The second star is being removed because when we were very first seated upon arrival, I asked our server if the owner was present that night, as I traveled 3 hours upstate to finally eat at their establishment with 3 guests after several years of desiring to dine there, AND I had long time mutual friends that were members of their family and I'd love to finally meet them and introduce myself. To my delight I was told the owner was indeed present that evening! After appetizers, the owner never came to the table, I asked our server again and was told, "they are very busy but she will mention it again". By dessert time, still no table visit, I mentioned it a third time and was told again "they are very busy". Two hours later, upon finishing desserts and after dinner drinks when the check was being put before us, I mentioned wanting to say hello to the owner (4th request) as we were now getting ready to leave and was told "sorry, don't know where they are, they are busy". We ended up leaving without ever getting to say hello. And the place is tiny! How far away could they ever have been from our table the entire evening? Two hours there, spending $200, 4 requests to say hello, IMO, they had ample time to take 120 seconds to come to our table to greet their customers. Perhaps if I had mentioned I was a trained chef and pro food critic, that would have made all the difference? To late!
everything absolutely perfect, from the service, to the food AMAZING
The restaurant was very nice. The decor was warm and rustic, and the food was good.
The thing that catapults this experience to excellent is due to our waitress, Sara. Hands down one of my favorite experiences with a waitstaff. Anyone that goes there should request Sara for a most enjoyable evening.
Friends had criticized the service as slow on several occasions -- and I was surprised to hear that. However, on this visit, I experienced the problem personally. From the time my three friends and I placed our order to the arrival of the food, we waited ONE AND A QUARTER HOURS. For a Sunday brunch, when most guests order just one course each -- as did we -- this was outrageous. Furthermore, not one member of staff came to apologize for the delay. Some 50 minutes into the wait time, I asked our waitress when our food might be ready. She said she would "go check" -- but she did not return. Another 25 minutes crawled by. When our order finally arrived, it was presented by a different staff member. No apology, no explanation, no regret.
Great Polish food in the Catskills. What an amazing assortment of dishes. We will definitely be back if we are in the area again.
We had a lovely time for our eight year anniversary. We will be making it a more regular treat! Tour of Poland was spectacular!
Excellent service and excellent food and cocktails. Everything was spot on
Loved the food and atmosphere. Great waiting staff.
Hostess was a bit cold. Otherwise, a wonderful experience
the food was excellent. I would suggest the pork chop!
I have eaten in this restaurant before and was very pleased so that is why this past Saturday,October
19 th, I invited my Daughter's family and her in -laws from NJ to join me there for the close of what I hoped would be a lovely evening. Far from it ...our reservation was for 6:30 pm an early one , due to the fact that my Granddaughter was dining with us and she is only 7 years old and tires quickly. We ordered our appetizers and then ordered our entrees.Appetizers were fine ,however at 8:45 pm we still had not gotten ANY food over 2 HOURS after we had placed our order. That is absolutely ridiculous and I was so embarrassed since I had been the one who raved about the restaurant. My Granddaughter was falling asleep by the time we finally received our food and my guests were extremely annoyed . l ordered the Pork Schnitzel .It was truly inedible . I could not even cut it with a steak knife and had to try to pull it apart with my fingers. It was totally over cooked and my mashed potatoes were cold. We were never given an explanation but we were given the check ...over $300. That meal should have been completely compted by the manager along with apologies . The waitress made mention that she did not charge us for one of our appetizers. I am not sure as I was so disgusted at the whole situation I paid the check and left and will never return. Restaurant manager contacted me and apologized profusely for our dining experience. He thoroughly explained the problem with our order and the unfortunate situation. He compensated us and asked us to try NYR again in the future. As I said I had eaten there before and was very pleased so I will definitely try them again. Very professional on the part of the manager to respond to my review.
Great food, great atmosphere, all-around wonderful dining experience. They offered some unique specials including a Polish sour pickle soup that was strangely delicious. Would absolutely go here again. The perogies were wonderful.
Food was delicious, staff attentive. I Recommend it
Just about average overall. Not as bad to grab a meal in Catskill.
Friends’ anniversary! Great time, highly recommend.
Very nice to see this place thriving in Catskill - great bar scene, fun vibes, awesome food. It was a little pricier than I expected, but a fun night out.
