The Motown Bistro
Live music nightly at 7pm!
There was a 20 minute wait even though I had a reservation. People without reservations got sat before my group because they "walked in first", which defeats the purpose of a reservation.
We sent both appetizers back for being overcooked/burnt (oysters and calamari).
I was told the oysters were going to be cooked the same, even though a friend sent me a picture of their-exact same oysters from earlier in the week and it was no where near burnt.
My steak was overcooked and they have me a baked potato, although the website said it comes with whipped potatoes. After asking the waiter was it supposed to come with a baked potato(I couldn't remember at first), he stated the menu was wrong and all steak meals automatically come with a baked potato. I let him know I didn't know that and would like the whipped potatoes. He brought them quickly but it was side plate, no where near the amount that would've come with the entree.
The first round of drinks came with the glass 2/3rds full and when I asked why, they stated the glasses were too big but the amount of liquid is standard.
Overall, the live singer was amazing and my second round of drinks(tropical margarita) was delicious. The second order of calamari was delicious. Our bill was $200 which is typical for us, but it did not feel worth it at all. I will not be returning.
Reservations mean nothing, had and additional 30 min to sit around dirty glasses drawing gnats while waiting for sitting, first drink had gnats on the fruit, food brought out cold to us as well as the wrong order. Live music was LOUD And Distracting, place to small for that high volumeGratuity of 18% AUTOMATIC To your bill regardless. I can say I tried it was not impressed and wouldn’t refer, they need to staff better hire bar backs for dishes and control volume of bands playing
Decided to go here for my birthday dinner based on the reviews of others and pics of the food. Ambiance and atmosphere were great. Seated at the bar to allow the rest of my party time to arrive (about 10 mins), bartender never asked if I wanted to order anything but checked on the patron less than 10 ft from me. Finally seated and the waiter did the bare minimum. Came over and took drink, appetizer orders and didn’t check back for at least 20 mins. When he did come to the table, it was only to bring something and never asked if anything else was needed before quickly walking away. The food was cold when we received and not very good so we decided not to place entree orders. Lemon drop martinis were delicious tho. Service was bad but we still tipped him on top of the 18% already included in the bill.
The food was wonderful and Gary took very good care of us. It was our first visit and we were not disappointed.
We ordered a steak and it was very juicy and seasoned well. The ambiance was very nice and the live band made the cherry on top.
Not sure where to start. 1. Why are we listening to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin in a Motown theme restaurant??
2. It took an hour to get soup and a salad, once the main entrée came 1 hour and 37 minutes after initial order the steak was burned but red in the middle. My 3 inch lobster tail had no substance to it whatsoever it literally disintegrated soon as I touched it.
At least my smashed potatoes was good
The food was okay.
The chicken was really salty. The was actual mold on the cake I was so embarrassed I took a woman there for a date. I thought it was a really classy place. I was very disappointed at the mold.
Had the lamb chops and the food was excellent. Our waitress never came to check on us beside bringing our food back.
Food was cold and for the money we spent they only allowed 1hr and 15mins for you to eat there but it took 45mins to get food and had to rush and eat it...And people say support your own...Never Again!!
The wait staff was absolutely amazing and the food even better. The love music was the icing on the cake, really enjoyed myself
Everything was perfect. One of the best restaurants in Detroit
The food was good , I just wish it was a few degrees hotter as I like my food piping hot.
Other than that minor thing, I definitely recommend.
2 servers. The one with no Jaír was HORRIBLE. We complained to manager and she still included 18% tip.
I will never go back.
The food and drinks were delicious. Service was superb. The live entertainment was excellent. The ambiance was wonderful. I'll definitely return
Always a wonderful time when we go to The Motown Bistro. Both Will waiters do a phenomenal job. Great energy and atmosphere.
The food was excellent and our waiter Gary was perfect 🥰. I would recommend Motown Bistro to all of my friends.
Don’t go waste your money please ! This place is terrible and the food was not all of that for all of the money we spent on the bill. It was a bug inside of my water and they didn’t even seem like a big deal. The manager didn’t even apologize. Not to mention my glass had a red lipstick stain on it. The food didn’t come to a hour late and was cold when it came out. The waitress was terrible and slow. Oh yeah the waitress don’t care because there 18% gratuity is automatically put into the bill ! I REPEAT DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!
I typically don’t post a review unless it’s an extreme situation. I selected this restaurant to celebrate my friend’s birthday. It probably was the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. Absolutely nothing was right at all. Waited for a table after making a reservation, then spent literally 3.5 hours receiving inferior service only to pay a mandatory 18% gratuity.
Please select a different restaurant and save your time.
This the worst dining experience that I ever had . The service was terrible, food was tasteless and overpriced. The restaurant needs a major upgrade. Paint is piling of the walls. Dark and gloomy. Just because it is downtown does not mean it will be a good experience.
Food was late coming out. Drinks were hot. Manager Chan was terrible and unprofessional when we made a complaint.
Great food and excellent service! Highly recommend it!
The food was delicious.
We had steak and seafood.
The entertainment was wonderful.
Service was excellent. Live music singer was great. Food was delicious. A very good date night place to go!!
Great place, great food!! We will return very soon!
We enjoyed celebrating out 25th anniversary at this venue. The ambiance, food, and service was excellent. Our waiter, Larry, was attentive and offered excellent drink choices while sharing the history. The only drawback was lack of necessities in the restroom and limited menu do to pending changes. We are already making plans to definitely visit again. Thank you for the experience.
Dinner was delicious service was great I have told my friend to go.
This is really Bert’s
There was nothing astounding about this place other than the bill. The hostess was completely unprofessional, the light in our booth kept flickering , the steak that was supposed to be a filet was absolutely terrible and seemed like it was barbecued. The lobster was overly salty, and the drink I ordered was not the type of vodka I asked for. When I asked the waiter if the bartender poured me Peach Ciroc he of course said yes. I told him no way, that it tasted like absolute peach, at best. The drink came in a kids size glass and was overpriced for some knock off vodka. The door to get to the bathroom is broken, so you have to finagle it get it open. Once inside the bathroom, it looked like an oversized porta John with flies everywhere. I couldn’t get back into the restaurant because the door was jacked up. As I stood by waiting to get back in, I observed waitresses/waiters heating up food in the microwave which leads me to believe half of this food comes frozen from some grocery store. Our waiter was no where to be found other than to take our order and deliver it to us along with the bill. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN. The money I spent here is no way comparable to the fine dining restaurants that I’ve spent that kind of money in.
Hidden jewel in the city!
Food was horrible and even made me sick. Way overpriced
Food was amazing service was excellent thank you Kayla for such great service
I will never go back, they we're very unprofessional.
We had reservations for 5:30 we arrived a little early and wanted to initially sit outside but too loud so when we asked to come back in, a table was made for two in the back in the corner although there were available tables? And we had reservations? I felt like we were having dinner at the kids table or was punished for asking to come back inside. The food however was Great and the service was good as well. I would revisit if I could sit at a Adult table and not feel like I was in the way of traffic.
Luv it my huaball really enjoyed his bday there thankyou
On a Sunday free church (1-3pm) in Detroit, at a place called Motown ANYTHING, you want high end Soul Food, Steaks, or legit Seafood, not bootleg brunch.
Drinks were pricey. Our meals were delicious! Pictured below is the surf and turf.
The food was amazing , but the service from the server sucked he ignored us the whole time basically
Loved the whole vibe. The food was amazing the live music was a bonus!!
I had fried oysters on my first visit that were delicious but on the second visit they looked and tasted as if they were fried a week earlier. I understand that restaurants are under staffed but if you're having waitstaff issues let the customers know so that they don't feel completely forgotten. Service was horrible. When I needed something I had to find him.
