This has become my favorite spot for a business lunch in Manhattan. The food is imaginative and beautifully prepared, the service is smart and attentive, and the location is ideal.
Great place, very trendy and relatively informal for a 2 star restaurant. if you are looking for a great 2 star place, you will be disappointed. My food was very good but uninspired for a 2 star. I do rely on the Michelin guide from time to time and this place should be a soft 1 star or there next lower rating.
Lovely luncheon for friends especially before visiting MOMA
As usual, this restaurant never disappoints. Excellent, interesting dishes, prepared to highest standards. Amazingly warm, efficient staff, in spite of the usual crowding and clamor. Be prepared to spend some money, but if you're looking for a great meal in a sophisticated, exciting atmosphere, this is your place
My friends and I went on a whim to celebrate our friend getting into grad school and it was a dream. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the coconut lemongrass sorbet was the best way to end the night. We will be back.
Overall ok.. service was very good, agreeable/funny and helpful when not distracted or forgetful..
I love this room, especially the flowers. The food is beautiful and the service professionally done (refolded napkin, etc.). This visit disappointed in one regard: dessert. The ice cream had melted and was a soppy puddle on the plate, and the dessert course arrived after a long wait, for which the waiter apologized. Not sure if there is a connection, but... Just one item not up to the usual standard, so I'm still recommending The Bar Room at The Modern.
As usual food and service was excellent and impressive wine list.
Everything was great.
The crab avocado, the scallops and lettuce salad were great.
The service was be there in 10+
Cavatelli was just okay; however I’m not a pasta fan..
What great food! Wow! Every course was tasty, beautifully presented and a nice size portion. We thought that we may have given up something by sitting in the Bar Room, but we were not at all disappointed. Great service and atmosphere too!
Wonderful dinner at The Bar Room — superb service (friendly, helpful and not intrusive), creative and delicious food, and a fun vibe. The portions were a bit modest, so I can’t say it was a “good value,” but I’d go back in a heartbeat. Love the “hospitality included” policy, which I take is well accepted by the staff, as they are top notch.
Consistently the best food in midtown with superbly professional service
Always exquisite food and service, not to mention truly great value.
Second time on the Bar side. Will continue to go back and recommend to friends. Same great service and food as the dining side, but a la carte and reasonably priced.
Amazing service and food- the rice pudding dessert wonderful
Service was out of this world, food was delicious, and the setting was fantastic. Wish I could have had three meals there while in town.
Went for lunch pre museum visit. Space was cramped, should remove some tables. Although there were several people that visited our table for many different things, did not get sense that thye communciated with each other well. An example, we ordered a dring pre lunch which did not arive until after lunch. Drink was comped but enjoyment lessened, especially for the price. Food was very good, but should be for the price so no surprises. A lot of more comfortable good restaurants that provide higher level of value in NYC.
We had an outstanding time. We felt welcomed and at ease. The presentation of the dishes was beautiful and they tasted as good as they looked.
So good. Went for my husbands birthday. When the restaurant called to confirm they made sure to ask if it was a special occasion and asked for my husbands name. Sure enough, when desert came, he got a personalized dessert. Nice touch. From the drinks, to the appetizer(charred avocado with crabmeat) to the entree ( velvety scallops) to dessert (brioche bread pudding), everything was delicious and perfect. Service was professional and friendly. 3 course price fixed menu is definitely the way to go. Great value all around.
We have been to The Modern before and opted to return because of a previous good experience. Unfortunately, this one was NOT. We had a 5:15 reservation and advised our server of an 8:00 p.m. show time in the Theater District (about a 15-20 minute walk from MoMA). Everyone in our party ordered the 3-course dinner. At 7:05 we had been served only ONE course. When we reminded them (again) of our show time, they hurriedly served the two remaining courses but we could not enjoy them, but instead, we were forced to eat quickly so we could leave on time. The meal is far too expensive to have such an experience. Two hours and 30 minutes is more than enough time to have leisurely paced meal. Very disappointed. We are unlikely to return.
Showed up on time and our table wasn’t ready. Not a big deal as the bar itself was really nice. BTW - discovered a hidden gem - one of the best bloody Mary’s I have ever had. Spicy but not over the top. The tomato juice was fresh as well. About 20 min later we sat down and the food was excellent. I had the steak tartare followed by the scallops. Both dishes were well presented and delicious. The service was also very good. Nice balance of attentive but not obtrusive. I would definitely go back.
Excellent experience. From the moment we entered the restaurant the staff was friendly and professional. It was a lovely dining experience. I’d highly recommend this restaurant.
A bit disappointed in this visit. Seemed like the lunch team was off its game- food was cold, meat was undercooked.
Very good to be at The Modern again. Always a pleasure!
Exactly what I's expect from Danny Meyer! Elegant simplicity with great attention to the food and service. Very relaxing. One of the most European spots in NYC.
Wonderful dinner. Best experience eating in NY.
Sublime experience today. Service met every need and expectation while being unobtrusive. From presentation to the last bite, we savored the amazing food. A perfect experience to top off our visit to MOMA. So happy we added this experience to our fine dining choices!
Amazing food; great service, knowledgeable staff; quiet atmosphere
This was my 3rd experience at The Modern. It has a lot of potential but comes across as very amateurish. The service is mediocre at best. The food is tasty but not memorable. For a preshow dinner it is not worth the price. It was my 3rd and last visit.
I have eaten here many times and it is one of my favourites in New York.
Outstanding service , atmosphere and food ! My second trip upon visiting NYC - I highly recommend for a stellar cocktail and fabulous lunch !
The Somelierre was unprofessional. In addition it took over 20 minutes for our wine to be served.
A very beautiful, hip room for an early dinner after an afternoon of viewing art. My friend and I enjoyed sharing four appetizers--the shrimp fritters with tarragon yogurt topping, the fennel salad with smoked salmon and grapefruit, and , and two servings of the fingerling potato gnocchi with charred broccoli and aged cheddar, and wine.
The room is absolutely gorgeous with lovely fresh flowers and several mirrors and a lively bar scene. A cheaper way to dine lightly!
. Our server was helpful and willing to answer any questions. It was a very pleasant setting. The food was excellent - we both had the scallops. It was so convenient to go to the museum and eat at the same place.
Always consistent. Always excellent. Appropriate for business meals, dates, any occasion. Even brought the family for our son’s 18th Birthday dinner a year ago. Everybody enjoyed the experience. Very reliable.
We eat here a lot and we are never disappointed. It is always a perfect dining experience
The Modern never disappoints. You will always be warmly greeted and the waiters are knowledgeable and so pleasant. It is a very happy environment. And you will not find better bar "snackins". Our waiter suggested the unconventional carrot rillette and the charred avocado with crab and now so do I! Don't miss them! The rillette isn't in a pot - it's diced carrots on rye toast (odd sounding but fresh and delish)
As for charred avocado, there is a lovely smokiness to it that counters perfectly with the sweet crab. Beet salad and tarte flambe also mighty fine. ANYTHING you order is going to be a dream, really. Treat yourself to a lovely night out - even if it's just snackin's at the bar. You'll come out smiling.
I love The Modern, most especially because of the gracious staff. And the fresh baked bread. The bartenders are especially attentive and remember me every time. Chris and Zeb are particularly outstanding. The cocktails and wine selection is impeccable. A fine experience to cap a trip to the museum whether alone or with a date
The food was incredible - avocado and crab, cavatelli and truffles, and carrot tartare were highlights - and the service absolutely top notch. Marcela is the best! Thank you for such an incredibly indulgent long lunch!
The whole experience was outstanding. The food was delicious and our waiter was wonderful.
