Have been here 3 times in the past one month, always great service and food.
just not a special place. pricey, in a way that puts it in the same league as other second tier nyc restaurants (ie, it's not priced like per se or 11MP, but it's similar to places like marea and Gramercy tavern) without being anywhere near to the same quality. never had such tasteless truffles in my life (how can it be? ) plus risotto was super weird and hard. I can live with a $200 lunch, but it should be special @ that price point. this was barely enjoyable.
Wonderful food in a cool setting. Portions a bit small for the price. We asked to be seated in a not-too-loud area; I don’t thnk they did that, but the noise level was not too bad. The service, like all Danny Meyer reataurants, was excellent, if almost too overwhelming, changing glasses and cutlery multiple times. Need to be a bit more ecological there. Don’t miss the tarte flambe!
Really nice service. Good food and great restaurant.
Modern is a great place for lunch and casual meeting! thank you so much for the great service
Yesterday, my wife and I celebrated our son Thom’s 39th birthday at the Bar at the Modern. The food was tasteful, including its presentation, and the waitstaff attentive, not intrusive. With our coffee, espresso, and dessert cocktail, the staff presented our son with a plate beautifully inscribed with birthday wishes and with macaroons to share. (Thom was relieved that the staff did not sing “Happy Birthday”! The Modern is our home away from home. Thank you for making yesterday such a memorable day.
Excellent food and superb service...Plus no tip policy. Two thumbs up!
Excellent drinks, wine.
Great wait staff.
One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in my life. Service was beyond perfect, ambiance was calm but hip, and we even were given a tour of the kitchen after our meal. Portion sizes might seem small at first but they’re perfectly filling, and the value for your money is exceptional. Prices are cheap by NYC standards, especially when you consider that tip is included.
Very disappointing. Used to be a favorite but menu has completely changed and all favorites gone -replaced by mediocre, greasy fried food in small portions. Even those wonderful rolls have been replaced. Service still good but wont be back
Excellent job all around. Courtney the Assistant Wine Director and Judy our server, among others, were fantastic!
Sorry to say - did not stand up to my expectations. In our opinion the food was not more than ok. Not worth the high price at all. Kind of uninteresting and futile.
We come to The Modern every we come to the City - sometimes more than once! It's our tradition and we think the best restaurant anywhere. It's primarily about the food and service but we love the decor and atmosphere, also.
Service was impeccable. They made us feel special celebrating our 25th anniversary. We even glanced in at their gorgeous kitchen.
My son and I had lunch. The food was excellent, the staff was very attentive. Our waiter, Aron, was very attentive and took the time to show us other areas of the restaurant since it was our first visit. We are looking forward to returning!
Amazing. They catered to my food allergies and the service was exceptional. We will definitely return.
Food was excellent. Waiter was odd, sort of pompous. Somollier wasn’t a good listener and didn’t make a reasonable recommendation based on our description of what we’d like.
The restaurant is very nice along with the ambiance. The food is amazing; but the service was so horrible the worst we have ever had especially at an upscale restaurant like this one! We had to wave down servers we didn’t have one assigned to us! How does that happen? Insane.. the food and drinks were both amazing that’s why the 4 stars but the service was so bad at 1 Star. The manager or whoever in a suit helped us each time 2 different people was really nice and felt bad but it was just so odd for us to not have a server. We had a show to catch so we had to wave someone down after sitting for 20 mins with no server taking our drink order.. the manager messaged and said to call him next time were there but that doesn’t do much for us since we live in California. Perhaps if he had said to come by for lunch or something we could’ve gone back and maybe experience better service with amazing food but he didn’t mention that. We’ll see if we come back since there are so many nyc restaurants
A great find. The ingredients are all fresh and natural. The dishes are delicate in taste and not too large. Quite a creative menu. Truly delicious.
A great way to conclude a visit to MoMA, especially an evening event. Interesting combinations (grapefruit/fennel/smoked salmon salad) and techniques (charred avocado). Can get pricey, and the portions are small. On the bright side, you can eat a memorable meal and not feel stuffed. Service is excellent and the no-tipping policy (it's built into the price) is helpful. You don't have to do math after one too many glasses of wine.
Loved it! The service was phenomenal, the food very tasty, and overall I just had a lovely experience.
We had reservations at the Bar Room at the Modern for a Saturday evening, and were seated as soon as we arrived. The service was attentive without being annoying. The Tarte Flambée appetizer was a perfect start. There were four of us dining, and each entree was amazing. I ordered the Lobster Risotto which was a delicious work of art. Dessert was the summer berry tart and theMilk Chocolate Pain Perdu, a perfect end to a wonderful meal. Truly a first class dining experience.
Always wonderful food in a comfortable, cozy setting! Service is truly commendable!👍👏❤️😘
Food and service were fantastic and a great location for dinner after 5th Avenue shopping.
There wine list is massive and I’m pretty sure they told us they have 4 sommeliers on staff.
Immaculate service: engaging and helpful but discreet
Wonderful food: delicious and beautifully presented
The Modern Restaurant was a sheer delight. Excellent service and delicious food from beginning to end. I recommend the crispy salmon and lobster risotto. For dessert, the berry tart. Although anything on the menu won't disappoint.
Amazing experience with a very knowledgeable staff. I would back in a heartbeat
It was lovely; Reasonably priced for a higher end restaurant, the beef tartare was delicious. Creative presentation and high quality food.
Love this gem of a restaurant/bar. It's perfect in every way. Creative menu, beautifully served, the staff is professional, well orchestrated, attentive and friendly. Being located at MOMA, the setting is appropriately contemporary with a casual elegant vibe.
Steve was amazing. His timing, expertise & humor was impeccable and charming. I was enchanted with the kitchen & he extended a brief tour. It is obvious the team is amazing and passionate about their roles. Bravo!
Another great lunch in a vibrant atmosphere! A tad noisy, but ok during the day
I am a repeat customer, and The Modern always gets it right.
When I walk in the door, the know who I am, including my name. The staff is delightful, professional and helpful, offering various options for seating.
On this occasion, I was dining solo and opted to dine at the bar. Each of the bartenders knew my name, and each of them went out of his way to make sure that I had an enjoyable experience. The food was excellent, as always; properly timed, just as I requested.
Danny Meyer and his team get it right every time. I can say that about very few restaurants anywhere in the world.
A top quality restaurant. It is clear the food is prepared by a 2 Michelin stars staff. The choice is of course limited, compared to the main dining room, but you can spend a wonderful dinner at a reasonable price.
The food was simply amazing and the service incredibly attentive. Really support the no tipping concept… Would rather pay extra for a meal if it supports better wages for all staff rather than just a few.
Very happy lifestyle Grand style Excellent in regarding cuisine
To add to the experience we were invited into the incredible kitchen, given a tour and had our photograph taken with the staff including the head pastry chef. What a memorable photo it is. My guest loved the attention and promises to go back.
As always, a perfect dining experience. Ambience, service, food, perfect.
Always great food and service - never had a bad experience here
A Bonafide NY Experience, The Bar Room at the Modern is a great dining experience -- ambiance, food, service all get high marks. This is a room where you really feel a buzz. It's exciting. I recommend it to anyone -- native or visitor -- who wants to have a fun evening on the town.
Outstanding service - and excellently prepared food, with a minimum of extra salted dishes ( which we feel is the sign of a chef who trusts the natural flavors) mad e this a perfect dinner. The sleek space and the perfect attention to every detail ( like a glass of ice cubes when I wanted my water colder) made this meal memorable. If you can afford it, a fantastic wine list, but the by-the glass selections are very well chosen.
And nicest of all, a card signed by the whole staff for our anniversary!
