About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
  • Good for groups
Nestled into the corner of Spitalfields, we have recently re-branded as a small plates bar, cafe & restaurant, serving up wonderful seasonal plates made with the freshest ingredients, cakes & pastries. All alongside an extensive range of British & Belgian beer, self-imported French wine, Andronica's marvellous coffee & tasty cocktails. Our bar is the product of over 20 years’ work by couple Kay and Peter Sinden, who have now passed on the daily running of the place to their own children.

A daily set lunch allows for the perfect environment for a quick lunch meeting & to impress your clients. Rooms are also available for private hire. Please enquire for details.

Expect a lovely cosy interior, carefully hand-crafted by Peter himself, and a warm, welcoming team. We so look forward to seeing you!

The team at The English Restaurant/The Market Coffee House are fantastic and always so welcoming of us (humans plus a large labrador retriever). The dog, in particular, loves that he gets a water bowl on arrival and the staff (and other patrons) are always so friendly which makes it a relaxed & enjoyable experience for all involved! The service is warm and the food flavourful. Thanks so much. See you again!

Another amazing meal looked after by Adam, great service, lovely food (would recommend the duck!) and was treated to a brownie and glass of prosecco for my birthday.

Delicious food and service. Charming setting. Reasonable price. Only negative was that it was quite chilly in there.

Lovely food, great atmosphere, good service with a friendly face. The cafe & restaurant are a historic style. Piano often playing and a changing menu.

Disappointing, the roast was sparse and not very warm.. Gravy good but two or three slices of carrots and some rock hard tiny roast potatoes.. Very poor and not good value

Dinner for 4. Starters were ok. My confit duck was dry and with potatoes which were over cooked. Should have been new potatoes and were not. Others were pleased with their meals. Ambience was good but service was less than optimum. Good value for money though.
