We had not had an opportunity to visit this restaurant in a while, and I personally was looking forward to the experience again. Our server was pleasant, but not overly personable. However, the food more than made up for this shortcoming. My wife ordered a lamb dish that was supposed to be not well seasoned. However, she found it to be a little more excessive than the server had indicated. I had the opportunity to ask Chef Noori to come to our table and speak with my wife. As soon as he realized what had happened, he immediately offered to remake the dish with no seasoning at all, which was more than you would expect in a typical restaurant. He was not only gracious, but very welcoming as he had been in the past.When the second dish came out my wife found it extremely enjoyable. The chicken dish I had along with the lamb dish my daughter ordered were perfect! We began the meal with an order of the Mantu dumplings which were excellent. Afghan style cooking is not something that you experience every day. The flavors and cooking techniques used by Chef Noori really enhance the overall dish. I would actually give this restaurant a 4.5 if this rating were available. We will definitely be coming back.

One of the best meals we had on our trip to Richmond. You can tell the chef is passionate about his food. Waitress was friendly but frazzled. Definitely would dine here again though because the food was fantastic

Great food....nice spice blend and excellent preparation. Will eat there again. Will also go to The Mantu Market for take out and Afghan groceries.

Our first time dining at The Mantu! Absolutely one of a kind. Wonderful, delicious food and Chef Hamid Noori was amazing! He is very personable and obviously knows how to create wonderful dishes. Since I am allergic to a particular spice, ‘tumeric,’ and his dishes come with many spices to make the dishes incredible, he made a specific dish for me with Lamb. It was wonderful and tasteful and he even made a couple of appetizer dishes without tumeric and they too were lovely. My husband was extremely impressed. In case you don’t know, Chef Noori competed against Food Networks, Bobby Flay in a food competition a few years ago. Excellent! You don’t want to miss out on enjoying fine dining at The Mantu in Richmond, VA. Thank you Chef Noori. We will be back sooner than later. Vicki and Lee

Great experience! Really nice atmosphere, superb service, and the food was delicious. The chef is personally involved, making sure all is good. He seems to really care about his customers and their experience. So many interesting menu choices but not overwhelming. It’s really good!

3 days before valentines day they dropped our reservation because of "issues with the computer" but was still encouraged to come by anyways. well there was a line out the door of angry customers and we never got sat and i wont be trusting this establishment with any holiday ever again. im sure the food is good but mgmt is trash. do better.

Evidently Mantu knows how to take a reservation, they don’t know how to hold a reservation. Showed up on Valentine’s Day right at 630. Line was out the door. Evidently they overbooked big time. Hostess wasn’t overly apologetic at all, almost put off by it all. Didn’t know how long it would be but 4 other tables were in front of us with 630 reservations too. We took our business elsewhere. I wonder if it’s any good? I may never know.
