Fish and Chip meal. Fish was of very poor quality and very thin, far too much batter Chips were probably cooked hours previously and were very greasy Service was slow and poor

We went into the Malthouse for early tea. We ordered steak and ale pie. Mine was fine my husbands was dry and pastry was very hard. We tried to catch the staff attention but nothing. My husband left most of the pastry. We were not asked how the food was on collection of the plates so we paid and left. We expected better standard of food for £18.95 per meal.

There seems to be very young waiting on staff today who were more engrossed in conversation with each other than taking customers orders or answering queries regarding gluten free options. Then whilst eating dessert and mid mouthful were asked if we were finished. Five minutes later we were told that our table was needed and we would need to move. I feel that if we had been seated/orders taken promptly then we would probably have been finished. Upon paying the bill we were not even asked if we had enjoyed our stay or even thanked for the payment. On a positive note the food was lovely but service left a bitter taste on our mouths.

Nice place, great beer garden. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Unfortunately the food wasn't great. We had burgers and was disappointed. However the other food going out did look good so maybe with a different choice of food this review would have been better.

The food was great but we felt that several of the waiting staff were quite new and would benefit from further training. Just lots of little things such as no tooth picks for the olives, no steak knives, candles not lit, no one asking if we food was okay during the meal or if we wanted more drinks etc.
