Wow, great experience. Can’t speak highly enough. Delicious food, great attentive service, and lovely thoughtful touches for an incredible night out. Cards with insightful questions were provided for “date night” which set a great tone for dinner - even for my husband and I who have been married for nine years. Great value for the reasonable price and they even comped a dish for us when our first selection of wine was not available. Don’t let the Musk association deter you from this gem. And don’t miss the carrots or the tagliatelle!!

No real appetizer menu. They don’t have a beef filet on the menu at all. Their menu is very different, so the name The Kitchen-American Bistro doesn’t really fit AT ALL. The Gem Lettuce (salad) was the best thing I had (It’s kind of like a spicy wedgish Caesar) My friend had the Gnocchi which was very tasty, but a rather small portion. I had the Denver Steak, it came with a very spicy hominy side. It was just so, so. Nothing to write home about. The steak arrived already cut up in slices, not a whole piece of meat. The desert I had was barely edible, because I couldn’t get baby food out of my mind. I ordered the sweet potato crème brûlée. It was not caramelized enough on top and the sweet potatoes tasted and looked like baby food. My friend had some kind of Key Lime with chocolate desert and I did not like at all. A good slice of Key Lime pie would have been so much better. I will try the restaurant one more time. The atmosphere was the best thing about the restaurant, not the food.

Exceptional. Top to bottom flawless. A culinary journey through Austin is not complete without dining at The Kitchen. Carrots are unbelievable. Burrata is outstanding. Tomahawk as good as advertised. Can’t recommend enough!

After our first outstanding visit for a date night with my husband in December 2024, I decided to come back with my friends. While the food was excellent again, the service was a letdown this time. The dishes were expertly prepared and full of flavor, so kudos to the kitchen team for delivering an impressive culinary experience. Unfortunately, the service overshadowed the meal. The server was inattentive, rushed us with ordering, took the order from one person at the table while ignoring others several times. The biggest issue arose when we received the bill: the wine we ordered and enjoyed at the table was correctly brought, but the bill listed a more expensive bottle. When we pointed this out, the server was dismissive and attempted to gaslight us, insisting that the pricier bottle was what we ordered and left to bring a wine list to prove us wrong. After 10 min of waiting, she came back with no wine list, the corrected bill, and admitted her mistake. This unprofessional behavior soured what could have been a lovely evening. While the food is worth recommending, I’d be hesitant to return unless there are significant improvements in staff training and accountability. Edited to add: after me and my husband left, my friends moved to the bar area and the server started talking to them and discussing my frustration that I expressed to her regarding her “gaslighting” behavior and making discriminatory remarks. This will be reported to the management.

I really wanted to love this place and am rooting for them to succeed. But....they have serious problems to address. We dined last night during a slow time for them and were seated in the bar side of the restaurant. The restaurant is beautiful and we got a great corner two top. From there the experience was underwhelming. The entire side of the restaurant was being served by the bar tender and therefore the service was intermittent and rushed. We asked why there was no dedicated waiter and were told it was because they were trying to get the bar tender more money! She tried to do her best but was always backing away when asking us if we needed anything. As to the food, spotty. Appetizer tacos were great. Crab claws were poorly cracked. I asked for a shell fish cracker and was told they use a hammer. Which explains all the tiny crab shells in the crab meat. Crab was actually fresh and tasty. Also had the chicken which came but we waited for five minutes staring at it because we had no forks. Had to flag the bartender down to get forks and she said she would be with us momentarily. Chicken was pretty good not great. Came with undercooked baked beans which seems a little downscale for the quality of the overall restaurant. I never understand why a new restaurant skimps on service when they just out so much into TIs. Each new diner is a possible long term customer so you should over serve them. Not sure I will go back but maybe.
