The Ivy Castle View
With an all-encompassing menu serving modern British and international Ivy-inspired classics from dawn until dusk, the restaurant is open seven days a week and is also featuring a private dining room, outdoor terrace and a bar, offering tranquil relaxed yet sophisticated dining with beautiful views across Guildford Castle.
lovely food as always and a lovely place to dine. service a little slow compared to usual.
We had a lovely time and really enjoyed the food, we had the prawn and and squid tempora to start, the terrine and the duck salade. I had steak, my husband had the blackened cod and loved it. The monksfish curry was also fab.
Great ambiance, just a shame the entrance inside the shopping centre as that detracts and if you sit that side in the summer you can see through to the shopping centre, which wouldnt be so attractive. I would ask for window to the road/green seat next time.
great polite staff
A great experience and will be back.
All was exceptional except that the neighbouring table was very noisy!
Lovely service, very COVID friendly and the food was incredible! Definitely recommended xx
Excellent service and atmosphere with good quality food.
Exquisite place to meet friends. Wonderful food, fabulous cocktails, great service.
Good service, good food but quite noisy. Overall it's brilliant 👍
I usually go to The Ivy at Cobham but as visiting a friend decided in Guildford. Have to say I enjoyed Guildford Ivy more than Cobham. Your service was outstanding. We had lovely ladies looking after us. Food was gorgeous.
Service poor from start to finish which was a shame because the food and venue were excellent. There appeared to be some issue with the table allocation despite being called to confirm the table prior to the date. So we were taken downstairs to a cold empty (literally) room away from the ambiance we had hoped for. It was my wife's birthday so after being told we had to stay down there on our own and then requesting a conversation with the manager we were provided a table in the actual restaurant where there seemed to be plenty of free tables. The experience was ended abruptly having been given the dessert menu but soon after being told there was not time for dessert. We were on time for the booking and not particularly slow eaters during the starter and main so this came as a bit of a shock. Took the shine off the birthday treat.
Shocking service, this is the first review I have ever done in relation to restaurant service. I’ve eaten in many fine dinning restaurants all over the world and a regular customer of the Cobham branch but the staff at The Ivy Guildford were rude, unprofessional, unfriendly and unorganised. Here’s the best bit it was my birthday.
Great waiter, food was nice though steak a bit fatty . Ambiance was exceptional and our waiter was nice enough to let us stay an extra few minutes which added to our enjoyment
Lovely evening and felt Covid Safe which was very important. Thank you
Very good social distanced tables and great service
Lovely atmosphere,beautiful decor,
Amazing food and service. All Covid measures adhered too
I ordered the fish cake and the poached egg was cooked to perfection.
The lobster was over-cooked. People behind us found a hair in their main course and another couple sent their main course back.
Highly recommend. Whole experience from the minute we entered to leaving was special. Staff super attentive and food was lovely. My daughter's birthday was marked by a lovely plate with cake and candle. They observed it was her birthday without us saying a word which just shows the attention to detail. Thankyou for a memorable and special evening
Excellent in all areas but a bit too noisy as the restaurant was very busy.
Service and food was excellent, however out started plates were not cleared when our main courses arrived, which was rather disappointing.
A good place to eat with a reasonable menu. Service was good
Very good afternoon, at the The Castle Ivy View.....
A great venue for a late breakfast. Lovely, attentive service.
Food was great generally, service was lacking. Had to try and keep attracting waiter’s attention to get butter for toast, order drinks, take away our plates. Tea and coffee we ordered on arrival (this was brunch) didn’t arrive, until we chased it and then it was a bit cold, like it had been standing waiting to be taken to the table. They just seemed understaffed.
Visited for a celebratory breakfast. Vowed to return more often! Perfect for any occasion or just because .....
Everything was excellent from the quality of the food, the anniversary surprise cakes and the impeccable service & the bill was extremely reasonable considering the quality. A special place Just love it here .
Great table showing view of castle. Waitress was very helpful.
Just booked off the cuff last minute. All social distancing issues were dealt with. Fab drinks at the bar and lovely meal. Made a very sad day a little less so.
Amazing lunch at The Ivy Guildford. Everything about the experience is 5 star. Staff are great very attentive. Food amazing. COVID friendly restaurant, at no time did I feel uncomfortable. Can’t wait to go back.
Always good to be there, constant food and service
We had a great time for a birthday, thank you! Recommend
Would definitely come back and would recommend! Thanks for making my boyfriends birthday so special!
Everything was first class. We felt that it was refreshing to take a break from all the pressures associated with Covid and to feel relaxed in a normal atmosphere for a while. We had no issues whatsoever with any aspect of the experience.
Our booking was for 6.45 we arrived on time. The greeting on arrival was very warm and friendly and met the requirements for Covid 19. We had a nice table, and our waiter gave us a warm greeting followed by very good service. Food quality was excellent - some of the best we have had in recent years from a restaurant of this level. My wife and I both had a cocktail which were also very good and an excellent bottle of red wine. I finished my main course at 8.15 and unfortunately things did go downhill after that. Plates were cleared promptly- in fact I was still eating my last mouthful and we were asked if we wanted the desert menu. As we still had a third of a bottle of wine left I asked if we could wait for 5 minutes or so to finish our wine. The waiter replied, "that should be okay you still have 30 minutes left". Within a minute of this one of the restaurant supervisors came over, placed to desert menus on our table and told us, in a rather surly manner he would need the table at 8.45. Just after this the waiter came over and said that if we wanted the apple pie we would need to order asap as it took 15 minutes to cook. We decided not to have desert just coffee. The coffee came immediately followed by the bill £160. I paid partly using a gift card we had been given as a present for our Golden Wedding and in chatting to the waiter I said we had planned desert and a glass of champagne to finish of our celebration - he looked round the half empty restaurant and said things change, I think embarrassed that they didn't really need our table, there was no queue, no one waiting at the bar, just a rule that has to be followed irrespective of the situation. This is not hospitality and I doubt I will be going back. The 2 hour rule for dinner at this price level without any regard to the level of business is a poor deal. I would recommend 'the food' with the proviso "you need to eat quickly it's not a night out".
Great service , good food and friendly, helpful waiter. Shame about rule of 6 and restricted time - we would have brought larger party and spent more.
Lovely view, well spaced tables and great staff. Will return.
We have often dined at The Ivy Guildford but this was the first time we had afternoon tea.
The food was not at all of the same standard as the lunches. Dry sandwiches and most unexciting pastries.
Lunches are good but afternoon tea a disappointment and I would not recommend them.
Had the cream tea. Three scones each, plenty of clotted cream and jam. Very good value as it includes tea or coffee as well. Service is great as always
I have dined at The Ivy in various locations and have always enjoyed the experience .
Unfortunately The Castle View in Guildford today did not match up and we will not be returning.
The service was slow, we ordered steak which arrived overcooked and cold . We sent them back and were given replacements these were just as bad but at least hot. The waiter asked if they were ok, we informed they were just as tough and he told us that was how they were supposed to be, we asked for rare then were very well done.
A very disappointing meal a waste four money and time.
A very enjoyable lunch, extremely good service, excellent food and a lovely gesture for our anniversary! We will definitely be back.
This was a very disappointing meal. The food was incredibly overpriced for what it was and the fact you have to order a side to go with your extortionate meal is appalling. We were put in the room downstairs which had no atmosphere and very basic decor - not what you go to The Ivy for. The service is what made it a better experience overall, but the rest was dismal.
Lively and fun. The only thing I would change is they allow people to sit at the bar. In the current situation, I think everyone should be seated away from the bar.
