This was our first visit, we’d heard good things and wanted to try it ourselves. Food was good, not great and in my opinion was very expensive and unfortunately not worth it. Atmosphere was lively and the table adjacent was very noisy. At that kind of price, I would have expected tablecloths and not old, chipped, scratched tables/chairs. Service was just ok, nothing special. Probably would give it a second try for a $24 burger and beer, nothing else. Wouldn’t recommend.

We've been to the Independent several times, though we hadn't been in a while. I was surprised to see the astronomic leap in prices. I ordered the Wagyu flank steak, medium rare. The center of the steak was good (not that rich beefy flavor I usually expect in a flank steak, though). Each end, however, was dry, tough, and decidedly NOT even pink. I expect more for the price and the reputation.

We had heard many positive things about the Independent restaurant, and we were looking forward to a nice meal this evening. When we first entered the restaurant, the hostess tried to seat us in a small table for two, immediately adjacent to the door, which would have been cold and drafty. She seemed annoyed that we requested another table. She said well “you can sit over there,” motioning to a table across the room, and left us to our own devices to carry our menus over to that table. Our waitress was pleasant and she had stopped by our table on several occasions, but during the course of the evening no one came over to refill our water glasses. This was somewhat annoying. The food was very good; we had an Ahi tuna dinner salad and and a fillet mignon, we were very happy with the meal. The ambience of the restaurant left something to be desired and considering the cost and subpar service, we likely will not be going back.

Food was average but priced at well above average. Mushroom risotto was ordered with prawns and the prawns were over cooked. Also two of our party ordered ahi and it was just ok. A bit over cooked and the rice needed some better seasoning. The steak was ordered medium rare and it was more medium and that was after having to wait for it a few minutes after the rest of the meals were delivered. We brought our own wine and with a $20 corkage fee you would think they would at least pour the wine, which they never did. Lastly, the desserts were good but the bread pudding needs a sauce rather than the caramel that was cold and tended to harden with the ice cream on top. Probably won’t be going back as there are better options for less $$

Great turnip fries and truffle Mac and cheese, and if you are a beet fan, the beet salad is a must!! Challenging noisy group next to us but otherwise a wonderful evening. (Hostess tired without success to contain).

My personal favorite is the Buttermilk Chicken with the creamy polenta! Great comfort food! They also make a mean burger and their truffle Mac and cheese, oh so yummy! Highly recommend dining at The Independent.

We decided to go to Independent for a special birthday celebration and we were not disappointed. They had set up a nice table for our party of six. The staff is always friendly and informed about their menu offerings. The food was delicious and plentiful. We have dined at Independent numerous times and have never been disappointed.

I usually have the couscous with the salmon but this time they had latkees. I think the couscous is much better, but our meal was fabulous. Lots of folks celebrating the holidays so it was a little nosier, but we will be back.... always are! Thank you!
