   Wonderful dinner. Only drawback was our children's meals were brought out at least 30 minutes before the adult meals came. They were done well before we even got our food. We would have preferred to eat at once.

   I really wanted to like this place but it was so overpriced for what we received. There were 8 of us, four of us shared meals and the bill was $700 (tip included) I ordered salmon ($44) and it was completely raw. It also came with an insane amount of potatoes that no one would ever be able to finish. The steak my husband ordered was good but not $54 good. We had a loud-ish group but we were on the patio by ourselves, no one was out there. At the end of the night, our waiter, who we thought was awesome, said goodbye and thank you to us but low-key flipped us off. He waved with one hand but had the bill folder in the other and had his middle finger out. I don't understand why he would do this. Gratuity was included in the bill, we paid him over $100. Was that not enough? Unfortunately we would not come back here on our next visit to Placerville.

In fact, he shook hands with a gentleman in your party thanking him for being part of a fun group. Your salmon was cooked mid-rare, we removed it from the bill when you alerted us you didn't want it cooked further or replaced. As far as your bill goes, our prices are clearly listed- your party of 8 ordered 3 appetizers, 3 salads, 4 entrees, 2 desserts, and 16 cocktails & beers and appeared to all be quite enjoying themselves

   This was a return visit. They were out of almost half of the menu which really limited the selection. Including the sauce for the stake. And while the waiter did his best it was a disappointment for the visit.

   Good value. Parking can be an issue on weekends. Just have to be willing to walk at times, not far. Never had a bad experience. Service was what you would expect at a restaurant of this quality.

    Had A Fantastic meal the Tempura Shrimp were to die for! Salmon burger and Beet salad were delicious as well. Alex our waiter was very attentive. Although everything is expensive these days if the food and service are Great it makes it all a lot easier to deal with. I highly recommend this restaurant.

    We were in town for a wedding and had been here several times usually during summer. We invited relatives new to the area. They were very impressed with the food and service. The prawn and mushroom appetizers were a hit, as well as the salmon burger and risotto. The restaurant was also very accommodating when we had to add to our reservation.

    For the first half of our meal, the server was very busy. We had to wait so long for drink service that we finally uttered a bit of a complaint which the server overheard. From then on, Trevor was responsive and efficient. Also, the venue is very small and has few tables. A large party was seated near us and they were quite noisy. This was slightly annoying, but is expected due to the small size of the inside seating. All this is overlooked though when experiencing extremely excellent food! I had the beet salad which I had not tried before. Wonderful mix of beets with arugula and goat cheese. The flank steak with chimichuri was out of this world tender and flavored perfectly. The salted baked potato is a bit showy, as it's still a baked potato. Asparagus was also cooked to perfection. We highly recommend this venue!

    This was our first visit, we’d heard good things and wanted to try it ourselves. Food was good, not great and in my opinion was very expensive and unfortunately not worth it. Atmosphere was lively and the table adjacent was very noisy. At that kind of price, I would have expected tablecloths and not old, chipped, scratched tables/chairs. Service was just ok, nothing special. Probably would give it a second try for a $24 burger and beer, nothing else. Wouldn’t recommend.

    We've been to the Independent several times, though we hadn't been in a while. I was surprised to see the astronomic leap in prices. I ordered the Wagyu flank steak, medium rare. The center of the steak was good (not that rich beefy flavor I usually expect in a flank steak, though). Each end, however, was dry, tough, and decidedly NOT even pink. I expect more for the price and the reputation.

    We had heard many positive things about the Independent restaurant, and we were looking forward to a nice meal this evening. When we first entered the restaurant, the hostess tried to seat us in a small table for two, immediately adjacent to the door, which would have been cold and drafty. She seemed annoyed that we requested another table. She said well “you can sit over there,” motioning to a table across the room, and left us to our own devices to carry our menus over to that table. Our waitress was pleasant and she had stopped by our table on several occasions, but during the course of the evening no one came over to refill our water glasses. This was somewhat annoying. The food was very good; we had an Ahi tuna dinner salad and and a fillet mignon, we were very happy with the meal. The ambience of the restaurant left something to be desired and considering the cost and subpar service, we likely will not be going back.

    Food was average but priced at well above average. Mushroom risotto was ordered with prawns and the prawns were over cooked. Also two of our party ordered ahi and it was just ok. A bit over cooked and the rice needed some better seasoning. The steak was ordered medium rare and it was more medium and that was after having to wait for it a few minutes after the rest of the meals were delivered. We brought our own wine and with a $20 corkage fee you would think they would at least pour the wine, which they never did. Lastly, the desserts were good but the bread pudding needs a sauce rather than the caramel that was cold and tended to harden with the ice cream on top. Probably won’t be going back as there are better options for less $$

    My personal favorite is the Buttermilk Chicken with the creamy polenta! Great comfort food! They also make a mean burger and their truffle Mac and cheese, oh so yummy! Highly recommend dining at The Independent.

    Great food, excellent service. A fun place for a family Christmas dinner. Even for kids! The only thing that would be a negative was road noise (our table was outside next to the fireplace).But after a while, it didn’t matter anyways!
