I knew nothing about Mackinac Island restaurants before our day trip there, but wanted to make a reservation somewhere to avoid lines. All of the waterfront places were already booked, but this menu looked good so I made an early reservation for four.
As soon as we arrived I knew it was a great choice and then it just kept getting better. Mackinac Island is a bustling place in summer and this is a quiet respite in a beautiful garden setting just steps off the main street. The hostess and server were delightful, and the food was excellent. We shared nachos (oustanding!) and whitefish dip, and among us had brisket sandwiches, brisket tacos, and a black bean burger and salad. All excellent.
Skip the crowded, noisy restaurants and take a lunch or dinner break here. We felt refreshed and ready to go after our delicious break here.
This place rocks! It was a beautiful, sunny day and we sat by the fountain for a late lunch/early dinner. The server was friendly, the music was great, and the food was delicious!
Loved this off the beaten path eatery
on Mackinac Island! Great BBQ, awesome ambience - outdoor, away from the street, surrounded by lovely trees and gardens.
Excellent place with great BBQ. We will definitely be back here.
Waiter wasn’t very enthusiastic. Limited mix drinks. However thr pulled pork was delicious.
Food was amazing, service was fun and friendly. What I enjoy while on vacation. 💯💯
We loved the place! Had great service and food. We ate early and split the Mac and cheese and brisket nachos. The trees and flowers are beautiful.
Annalise was an amazing server!! Otherwise we also had a great experience. Definitely going back again on this trip. 😊
Their $20 “loaded Bloody Mary” came from a mix and it was poorly done. The portions were a good size and the staff were friendly (and unorganized)
My wife and I were staying at Island House for her birthday weekend and discovered Ice House outside restaurant. Wow what a find! The unique ambiance was tranquil and invigorating at the same time. We ate there twice and the service was excellent both times. I highly recommend this dining experience!
The only issue we have is the prices. We have eaten at a few places and by far these are the highest. The food portions don’t match the prices, and there is nothing extraordinary about the food to warrant the prices. Great place, super cute and quiet. Service was lovely, food was good.
Great spot for BBQ on Mackinac Island.
It took 50 minutes to get my food after ordering and when it arrived, everything was cold. Manage to seemed to be non existent and all of the servers were scrambling even though the restaurant wasn’t even near full.
We seemed to have a little bit longer of a wait for our food to come out but given this is a newer place to the Island and being busy after a pandemic we figured they were still adjusting. Other then that, our food and our server were both fantastic and we would eat here in the future.
Just okay, the setting is pretty but we had to wait over 10 mins past our reservation and the service was slower than expected.
Great meal. The only real BBQ on Mackinaw Island. Be sure to get reservations as its not a large space outside. A hidden gem.
My BBQ combo plate was tasty but served at room temperature, and the peach cobbler we had for dessert had only a few peaches tucked away beneath a thick crust. The patio setting is peaceful, but the staff detracted from the atmosphere by starting to close up the umbrellas around ours a half hour before closing time while we were still having dinner. Service was attentive and prices reasonable.
Absolutely fantastic - service, food, EVERYTHING!
Ate on the patio and we had 2 dogs with us. Patio was lovely, service was great and really enjoyed the food. Highly recommend, especially with families and with pets.
Loved the laid-back atmosphere, lawn games while we waited for dinner 🙂
Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely tucked away garden setting with lawn games available and great selection of background music coming from hidden speakers in woods. Food was very good. Pulled pork - huge portion, very tender, best we have ever had. Chili and onion rings were good. Peach cobbler for dessert was also good. Will definitely go back on future trip to Mackinac Island.
Apparently it was their last day open for the season as the staff was being transferred to another local restaurant and many menu items were "unavailable". Drinks: several selections were found to be unavailable after ordering. Finally one party member ordered a rum punch. Arrived in a 4 oz. glass w/ice. When another diner's ordered drink was unavailable she also ordered the rum punch which arrived in a large (approx 16 oz.) plastic tumbler. When first diner exclaimed about the difference the server just said they were out of small glasses!! Food: After requesting several unavailable menu items, several diners ordered the "bowl" of brisket chili. The bowls were so very small we all wondered how small a "cup" of chili would have been. Another diner ordered the 1/2 order of nachos which he was assured was plenty for one. The request of 1/2 brisket and 1/2 pork (two of the three meat choices) was declined. The order arrived with perhaps 8-10 chips in a bowl with some queso and brisket. Four ceramic ramekins of pico, sour cream, guacamole and onions were sitting on TOP of the tiny order of nachos. We could only hope the bottoms of the ramekins were sanitary. Requesting some extra chips helped this out a bit. Service was only so-so. Ambiance was great and everyone remarked on the playlist coming through the excellent sound system. However, after this being one of our favorite "go to's", it's going to be difficult to risk taking guests there again.
Quick seating time thanks to our reservation. We brought our dog and they were very accommodating and welcomed us having him there! The food came out fast and was very good. We also enjoyed the music. Will be back!
We made a reservation for this restaurant several weeks in advance. We confirmed the reservation one day in advance. We arrived on time, went to the back of the hotel to be seated and found no one there. We waited around 5 minutes, and called the number listed for the restaurant, which connected to the Island House front desk. I explained that we had a reservation at the Ice House, but there didn't seem to be anyone there. The staff member asked if I was standing at the restaurant entrance near the pool - I said yes, and he directed me to walk past the pool and refrigerators, go into the kitchen and let them know we were there(!). I did that, entering the back of the kitchen, where I told two confused looking cooks that I'd been directed there by the front desk. They nodded, and I returned to the restaurant entrance. We waited another 15 minutes. No one appeared, so we left. Note that the restaurant sign indicates it is open "weather permitting" and it had been a rainy day, although it was not raining when we were at the restaurant. I presume it was closed, and no one bothered to let us know. Not exactly a great experience.
This was a great experience! Beautiful little green hideaway behind the Island House! Gorgeous gardens! Attentive service. Frequent refills of iced tea and water. Bar service is limited to what is on the menu only, though. Split the chopped salad and The Who hog sandwich and both were excellent and arrived split by the chef. Finished with delicious bread pudding. Lovely lunch before Great Turtle Kayak trip!
The location of this was hidden and great ambiance on the patio. The flowers were also beautiful. The food was good. The kids meals were pretty standard kids fare and the nachos were good. The chicken my husband got was tasty and the brisket in the tacos plus the sauce was very good also. The beer list was decent. My only complaint was the tacos were on pre-made “shells.” I might be a Mexican food snob... but don’t love having good tacos ruined w Taco Bell shells. I can’t even call them tortillas. We would go back though, the service was good and we had a great experience overall.
Amazing service! We went to the Ice House on a weekday and it was pretty busy for a Wednesday evening. The restaurant is pet friendly and has a lawn to play bags while you wait. Our server was super friendly and made some great recommendations. Great outdoor dining experience.
Although small menu due to outdoor seating arrangements and liquor/beer selection limited as they were out, we really enjoyed ourselves. The bread pudding was wonderful as were our selections.
We had a very nice server. However she had too many tables and not enough time. They were out of a number of menu items. Our small order of nachos was messed up and the pulled pork was very average. The bread pudding dessert was very good!
Food very good, nice outside dining option. Service was prompt and friendly.
The Ice House was wonderful. Great outdoor seating under the umbrella's surrounded by greenery. It was so relaxing and the service was great. There is a green space for a game of bean bag toss or the children can move around a bit and play. The food a perfect, onion rings and a BBQ sandwich fit the lunch hunger. Nestled behind a Bed and Breakfast off of the busy downtown street across from the marina. Defiantly a must spot to eat.
The nachos were the best ever and brisket cooked to perfection
Great experience and very good food. I enjoyed my dinner!
The food was excellent! A little off the beaten path but, it was a nice change of pace from other crowded restaurants on the island.
Mackinac Island is beautiful and this hidden gem is no exception. We enjoyed a peaceful dinner in a lovely garden setting. Staff seemed to be stretched thin but friendly.
We had the BBQ Pork and Chili, both were tasty with bread pudding for dessert.
Nice little spot behind the Island House Hotel, which was where we were staying. Very pleased to have outdoor, socially distanced seating. The barbecue plates were well done.
This was a great find on Mackinac Island. It’s back in a quiet setting, away from the crowds on Main Street. Our server was attentive and personable, and the food was outstanding. I would recommend the smoked chicken. It was a generous portion with delicious sides. Overall, this restaurant was a great value. We were glad to have found it!
Had wait 1/2 before getting water (drinks were ordered) then ordered food and waited....waited and waited. The people that came after us got there drinks and food before we even got our drinks.
We got our drinks then some of our food. Our appetizer and one of main dishes. The other main dish finally came 15 minutes later. The food was ok but we were tired of waiting. Will not come back.
Restaurant was incredibly short staffed, I assume due to COVID. Service was abysmal. Seems like they didn’t plan for the volume of patrons and the whole experience suffered. Food looked very good once actually delivered but needed to be sent back to reheat as it was stone cold on arrival. Basics like condiments, napkins, drinks were hard to come by. Drinks ordered at seating didn’t arrive until mid meal. BBQ sauce for pulled pork was delayed 15-20 min after receiving the dinner. It was very disappointing. Tried to be sympathetic due to pandemic but if you can’t make it work then maybe don’t open?
