Spending a few days in Cooperstown NY the search engine for Open Table identified this hideaway boutique restaurant as being in close proximity. In fact Leonardsville is a 30 minute drive but we’ll worth the effort. Our food selection was elegantly presented and totally delicious. We highly recommend the Horned Dorset Inn both for its wonderful food and quaint charm.

Decided to go back to the Horned Dorset after about 4 years to celebrate my anniversary. They did not disappoint. Food and service were both exemplary. I mentioned it was my anniversary when I made the reservation and they wrote it in chocolate on our dessert plate. Will certainly go again

Wonderful food, great service. We visit this restaurant monthly and are always pleasantly surprised and impressed with the variety and ingenuity of the dishes. A treasure in an out of the way place, but well worth the search.

The dinner was for our 56th anniversary which the Horned Dorset acknowledged with attentive service and a wonderful meal with a nice white wine. I was too full to eat dessert so they nicely boxed up a chocolate cake for me to take home. The entire event was a wonderful experience. We first dined at the Horned Dorset in February 1979 and it is amazing the atmosphere and quality have remained so consistently excellent through the years. jws

I went with family for my birthday dinner. Two of us had allergies and special diet needs and they were knowledgeable and accommodating. David and all the wait staff were phenomenal!!! Food was of a very high quality and the soufflé was excellent.

Atmosphere/ambiance was nice, save for the tables being somewhat close and all were occupied. The resulting noise level approached a din. The food and service was outstanding. Price came to mind only because of the crowd creating the noise that was loud enough to block out the background music, hence my atmosphere reference.

We enjoyed celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary at the Horned Dorset. The food, service and atmosphere were outstanding! David was head waiter and was knowledgeable and helpful. Mike did an excellent job too! So happy to see him as it’s been quite a while. It was like seeing an old friend again. Thank you to all and the chefs for a special date night!

We were started off with a warm cheese spread on original crackers. A bit more could have been the whole dinner - so succulent! We had a number of dishes - all amazing - the veggie paté, the lobster vol au vent (maybe the best thing), the risotto, the salmon, the scallops (redesigned as a main dish). Perhaps the only flaw was that the scallops could have been a little less well done. Another best part was the vegetables on every plate. They come straight from the restaurant garden and taste it. But I'd really like to know the recipe - they were cut in little pieces and brought to a point of tastiness and pleasure in texture that I've never had before. We had 3 sensational desserts - berries in sabayon, chocolate bombe and lemon soufflé. Just kept passing them around (there were 3 diners). I might only wish that the bread was a little more special (crustier crust? not so white bread?) since nothing else approached mediocre (as opposed to practically everywhere else). The service was attentive and prompt and detailed. The place itself is a marvel of good taste and pleasure for the eyes. One is in an authentic English/French aged country restaurant/inn and being treated accordingly. It's expensive, but I don't know too many other places - including many in Paris - where quite get your money's worth. The originality of the dishes doesn't displace their lusciousness, as in many high end places.

I love this restaurant and always dine here when at the Glimmerglass Opera. The pre-appetiser is a complimentary small cheese soufflé, eaten on tiny crackers. Delicious - and that just sets the tone.

The food and ambience are well worth the drive to Leonardsville. Entire meal was served beautifully. Staff members are cordial and efficient. Duck confit was fabulous. Grand Marnier souffle with chocolate anglaise was exquisite. Definitely a Five-Star experience.

When you enter the restaurant you immediately get a calm feeling of elegance and serenity. You are warmly greeted and brought to your table. The food is top notch French cuisine. I really wanted to order the chocolate souffle for dessert, but knew I could never find room for it after having the amazing lobster first course and then the lamb shank for a main course. Fantastic! Our server was an absolute delight! Thank you, Horned Dorset, for a spectacular dinner for my birthday. If you love expertly made French cuisine, this lovely place is an absolute MUST! If I could leave 10 stars, I would!
