This is the second time I had a similar experience at the Halyard. The first time, I thought it was just "accidental". I made a reservation through Open Table more than a week in advance. I requested outdoor seating. On the day of the reservation ( three hours prior) I receive a voice message from their "front desk" stating that all outdoor seating needed to be booked in advance and therefore they were seating me inside ( as all outdoor seating was reserved). I let them know that I had requested outdoor seating well over a week in advance and that if they needed to confirm they could have called me as they did the day of to notify me it wasn't available. I got there an hour early and sat outside. I was reminded it was only a 90 min limit. At 6:10, ( 10 min after my original reservation) the outdoor seating was empty with exception of myself and my guest. When we left, no one at the front desk thanked us for coming (this happened the first time as well). I find the front desk staff rude, unskilled and this behavior sets the tone for the experience. The food is overpriced and one thing it's got going for it is the bar and the views. Our server was nice, attentive, but I won't be returning nor recommending this place. Thanks
The food and the service was great. We were able to sit out on the deck and enjoy the absolutely beautiful views of the sound. We have been coming to this restaurant for years, and it never disappoints. The updates to the interior look beautiful too.
Overall, very good experience. Promptly seated. Hostess and servers friendly and efficient. Food was overall very good. Shared the tartine appetizer which was delicious. Halibut entree also very good, and nice quantity. Strangely, the cavatelli entree came with a totally unappealing presentation, as if dumped in a cereal bowl. My sister, who ordered it, did say it tasted very good and she felt portion was adequate. Would be nice if they had a few daily specials so that the menu varied more.
Food is okay. Didn’t like the mint flavored risotto. Oysters were large but could have been shucked better. Would’ve liked them cleaner. Local wines are not very good and way overpriced at $14 / glass.
Service started out great but fell off as the night went on. Our server was nowhere to be found. Never checked if we wanted more drinks or even how our meal was. This was disappointing as the food and atmosphere were spot on. The sunset views can’t be beat.
Food was delicious and the view/ambiance beautiful! Small details like some amuse bouches to start could elevate the experience. Shoutout to the valet who was also outstanding.
My sister was in town and we had a fantastic dinner. The entire experience was top notch. Food, wine and ambience was stellar.
Terrific renovation! Love the space and the view is spectacular. The service was attentive and appropriate, but not intrusive. Our dining experience was wonderful. I enjoyed the beet salad, which was perfectly dressed. The halibut with romesco was superb. The wine list is sufficiently varied to be interesting. Also, enjoyed the strawberry shortcake, which was more pound cake than shortcake, but delicious.
Exceptional food, drink, service, and views.
The earliest reservation that the restaurant had was for 9:15pm for 7 people, despite me repeatedly requesting an earlier time slot. I was hesitant to make a reservation for that late, but we had heard good things about the Halyard from friends. Since the reservation was so late, and we wanted to catch an 8:29pm sunset, the hostess suggested that we make a reservation at the bar, supposedly a 5 minute walk from the restaurant. 5-minutes turned into a 10-minute walk on the beach, first going down a large flight of stairs! For most people that wouldn't have been an issue, but 4 of the people in our party are 70+ and have hip/knee problems. At 8:15pm, we all decided to NOT make the walk and head over to the restaurant. What a surprise to find out that not only was our table ready, but there were at least FIVE empty tables!!!
My daughter highly recommended the Biscuits with "GOOD butter, but when we got them, the biscuits were over-cooked and the butter? Well - besides the fact that it was melted, it tasted like plain, unsalted butter! Nothing GOOD at all, the waitress explained that the difference was that the fat content was 85% vs regular butter was 80%! REALLY?????
Four of us ordered the Pork Belly entree. The pork belly was bland, as was the creamed corn that was underneath. The swordfish entree's that the other people ordered were thin and dry.
The best part of the meal was our server, Stephanie, who was laughing and joking with us the whole night, and had a very happy, up-beat demeanor.
Needless to say, we will NOT be going back to the Halyard any time soon.
Location, location... we wanted a window table, and got it, but the noise was over the top! Thankfully, there was room outside, and a slight breeze on a very hot day.
It's the North Fork in season, so if you want low prices, stay away. The value is
in the food and wine, and the view of the Sound.
My suggestion... add a buck to everything and hire an acoustics expert who can lower the decibels.
Vacationers from the western part of the Island. Snag an outdoor table if you can, but if not, inside was spacious and comfortable, just a little noisy. Nice casual dress. Families abounded. Food was very good.
Our server was a phenomenal young lady who was very pleasant and very sweet and accommodating. Unfortunately the hostess who greeted us was very rude and uncaring. She had us sit at another table and told us to wait there and have drinks until we can go sit at our table and forgot us there for a long time while she sat other people who arrived after us and had leader reservations. The food was very salty and the oysters were subpar. Nice place and lovely wait staff but really not a enjoyable experience.
Everything was just...good. Not spectacular. The main dining room is a little sterile for my taste. If I return, it's only if I snag an outdoor table!
Good food, great drinks, fabulous view, helpful staff, best during the week to avoid the crowds, valet parking is extra.
We had a great 40th birthday dinner for my wife with our three kids. We had a nice table outside overlooking the water. Children's menu was great for our kids. I loved the oysters, cocktails, and sea bass.
Incredible time at Halyard. Food was so good and they had a great kids menu. Gage our waiter was wonderful too!
Beautiful restaurant. Amazing view. Friendly and attentive staff. Fairly priced. Breakdown on food (entrees only): LOBSTER ROLL - Loved that the bread is grilled. Lobster is seasoned well. The anchovy dressing on the salad was too salty. MUSSELS - Mom and auntie ate every single one but once again, the sauce was very salty. We collected all lemons on our table and squeezed them on the bowl. FISH AND CHIPS - There was only one piece but portion is big. There was no taste at all so we loaded it up with tartare sauce. Once again, the side of fries were very salty. I love salt but it was even too much for me. But we were very hungry so we finished everything. If they weren’t so heavy handed on salt, I would’ve given 4 or even 5 stars for the food. Overall we enjoyed ourselves and would go back again. But we will probably tell them to take it easy on the salt next time.
The location is hard to beat. We sat outside on a dull evening, yet the beauty of the Sound was amazing.
Our server was sweet and efficient.
We found the tartine appetizer is a little overwhelming and filling also too creamy for our taste but otherwise the meal was excellent.
We could sit happily there every night.
Great food and location. Service was excellent. Could do without the $8 charge for valet parking, since there was plenty of parking right across the street and there was no indication that the valet was not complimentary.
Lobster roll was amazing. Drinks great. View beautiful
I was a little concerned after reading some recent negative reviews but our lunchtime experience was excellent! From the wonderful location and views, to our waiter, Gage, providing excellent service, we couldn’t have been more pleased. Portion sizes were ample for the delicious New England clam chowder, fish and chips and lobster roll. The strawberry shortcake and dark chocolate mousse were and excellent ending to our meal.
Food is good; small portions. Ambience is lovely as was service. Price is extraordinarily high. Parking is terrible. $8 for valet plus tip! When you park yourself, you must cross a very dangerous main road. What is worse is the parking lot- a completely unlit field. Not worth it at all.
Beautiful views. Laid back vibe. Every dish was outstanding.
Excellent atmosphere, location and view
Wait staff attentive and courteous
Food was excellent
Disappointed in the food, especially for the price. Oysters were small and lacked flavor, and poorly shucked. Fish and chips was barely edible. Won’t be going back. But did appreciate the service.
The food tasted fresh and generally good but I found it very odd that there was no option to add a side of rice or anything to the fish entre. To have a dinner of striped bass and no rice or potato left one of the people in our party feeling hungry when the meal was over. The cocktail sauce used with the shrimp was like using a hot sauce, no depth of flavor just searing heat-not what I expected at all.
Paid for rolls...ok I get that,.but still had to ask for butter, soup came no spoon ...asked twice...got a tiny tea spoon...asked again girl didn't know what a soup spoon was...drinks took forever...then we were asked if we wanted to see desert menu...of course we hadnt eatten yet. Food was only fair...$30 fish and chips was all bread and flavorless...McDonalds is better...place is very expensive and "exclusive" food quality and service should represent that...dont fall for the view!
Went with my out of town guests, party of 8, 3 little kids, walked away having such a positive experience. The view is spectacular there is honestly no bad table. The price is reflected in the quality of the food and wine. The most outstanding thing was the service and management team. The staff was intuitive, responsive, overall wonderful. What a wonderful new tradition. This place is everything in advertised.
Wonderful lunch. Our table in the back outside wasn’t ready so hostess set us up on the side while we waited. Terrific service. Delicious food and lovely water view.
Beautiful atmosphere, gorgeous sunset, very good food and will probably go back, but inattentive service marred the overall experience
Such a great place! Beautiful vistas and terrific wait staff. And the food fabulous and fresh!!
The quality of the food is excellent.
The service is good.
The parking situation is not good. You have to go across a very busy road and a blinking light or stop sign is very much necessary for safety. The actual parking lot needs to be paved. It is waiting for a weak tire to get a flat.
Good food. Pricey. Unfortunately Friday night is Karaoke night which meant is was loud and the music was unpleasant. Beautiful spot though.
Simple surroundings with better than average food.
Arrived early, received a pleasant greeting. Provided a table indoors due to excessively
humid weather. Great food with a fine dining experience. Should be open all week.
Really wanted to love this place and I will give it another shot. Apps were pretty good if not unspectacular. The portion of fish in the ceviche was laughable. My fries were soggy and my fish n chips were completely bland and flavorless. It was a nice piece of fish too so it’s a shame. My wife’s Sea Bass was great.
Once we finished dinner we must have sat there for no exaggeration 20-30 mins waiting for our waitress for a dessert menu. Eventually we had to get up and go find the waitress, and by that time the urge for dessert had passed.
I’m not sure if this is on opentable or the restaurant, but when I made the reservation I wrote “ it is our anniversary please do something special.” I thought we would have maybe a complimentary glass of Prosecco or dessert. But there was nothing not even a mention by the waitress. This wasn’t a big deal but why ask if it’s going in one ear and out the other.
We went early so service was very good, meal was great.

We had a delicious meal with a
lot of unique flavors. Service was wonderful. Desserts were delicious ! Sat on the deck and had amazing views and beautiful sunset!
New people working there. Was chaotic at times. Food was tasty. Especially like the Whole flounder.
Deb, Thank you for your rating and review. We are thrilled that you enjoyed the whole fluke! We hope to see you again this summer. -The Halyard Team
