It’s overhyped and overpriced. Extremely loud annoying music. Semi-rude staff. Mid experience.

My husband and I had such a great time dining at The Guest House! The food was delicious, and the portion sizes were perfect for sharing (and still had leftovers) — we split a salad (Heirloom Apple & Endive), appetizer (Steak Tartare and Charred Moroccan Beets), entrée (Crispy red Snapper), and a side (Miso Mishrooms and Parmesan Truffle Fries), and everything was flavorful and beautifully plated. The drinks? So good! 🍸 The cocktail menu was full of creative options, and each one we tried was incredibly well-balanced and refreshing. The atmosphere is cozy and stylish with that cool downtown Austin charm. It felt upscale but still welcoming, and the servers were friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience feel seamless. And I have to mention the 100-layer cake — absolutely divine. Layers upon layers of delicate chocolate, caramel and espresso. It was rich without being too heavy and had just the right amount of sweetness. The perfect finale to an already amazing meal. Highly recommend for date night, a special celebration, or just a fun night out. We’ll definitely be back!

Had high hopes for this place and was really let down by both the experience and food. To start, despite our reservation we had to wait 40 minutes to be sat. Then when we finally were, it was at probably the worst table in the restaurant because it was directly next to the door and left people who were waiting basically pressed against our table. Not a good experience at all considering we were celebrating a birthday (and they knew this). Our server was nice but continued to rush us to order and adding pressure to get the most expensive items on the menu (shocker). The food was fine but not at all what you should call fine dining. Nothing we ate was necessarily bad, but it was all extremely overpriced and just not very special or interesting. Some drinks were good but again, how can you justify a $23 margarita? Also, the prices do not match those listed on the website. You can see just a year ago cocktails were closer to $16-$17, now they're all over $20. Ridiculous. The only thing I can compliment is the interior is very beautiful. Definitely will not return nor would I recommend.

My daughter and I had a wonderful dinner at Guest House. Our waitress was great, the food was amazing, and the drinks were so creative. My daughter loves the super fun mocktails.

Food was good, but they seem to be confused as to whether they want to be a dance club or a restaurant. There is a DJ spinning at 5:30pm at a VERY LOUD volume, and I can say that my teenage kids even thought it was excessive. It was perhaps the most overstaffed restaurant I’ve ever seen with the poorest service - having to ask where drinks were constantly, being asked to put orders in before drinks were set, etc. I think it’s a shame because the food was quite good.

I dropped into Guest House on a quiet weeknight and grabbed a seat at the bar, and from the moment I stepped in, I could tell this place had vibes. The atmosphere is classy, modern, and refined — the kind of spot where you expect to find polished conversations, people dressed like they actually thought about their outfit, and maybe a little high-society people watching. My kind of scene. The cocktail program? Spot-on. Their theatrical drinks are a must — not just tasty but entertaining in the best way. Order at least one for the mini show that comes with it. Think upscale mixology meets Instagram gold. Now, let’s talk crab cakes. I’ve spent a lot of time on the East Coast and abroad, so I don’t throw this around lightly: these are the best crab cakes I’ve ever had. No filler. No breadcrumbs. Just a glorious, juicy lump of fresh crab. Absolute standout. If there was one miss, it was the staff. Despite the place not being that busy, the service from the host stand to the bar felt a little aloof. Not rude, just... unbothered, which felt off in a setting this upscale. Still, I’d 100% go back — both to explore more of the menu and for another round of those showstopper cocktails. Definitely worth checking out at least once if you're in Austin and appreciate a sophisticated setting with standout food.
