The Grill at 1951
The food and atmosphere was terrific I’d recommend going to this restaurant
The restaurant was fine, though of course a bit quiet on a Sunday evening. It may be because it was quiet, or maybe it's the usual Sunday routine, but the regular menu (which looks great) wasn't available, and the restaurant was doing a buffet. Buffet's are tough for a party trying to eat vegan that evening.
Once again, The Grill at 1951 did not disappoint. This was our first time since the change from JD’s and it was awesome as usual. Love the new menu although I had a hard time choosing! Everything was cooked to perfection and the entertainment was awesome as usual! Highly recommend it!
Our first time under new management and we left delighted. Osso bucco and rack of lamb excellent as well as our server, Tiffany. We will soon be back.
The waiter was to attentive we didn’t finish one drink and asked us twice if we wanted another way too much up-sell as my wife’s dinner I have both been in the business also soup and gumbo was warm at best but tasty food seemed like it was precooked and microwaved after reading a lot of good reviews we wanted to try we were very disappointed and probably will not give it a second chance for the price and even though I love to cook we are retired and we go out to dinner often ☹️
Once the piano player played softly he was a welcome addition. The appetizers & entrees were good. The deserts were pedestrian.
My father lives in Englewood and held a golf tournament for Ohio friends at Kingsway CC. Since we didn’t know the Port Charlotte area well, he tasked me with finding somewhere for dinner. Am I glad I found The Grill at 1951!! I made reservations the day before and was then informed we needed room for one more! The reservations were updated and accommodated with no issue!!
We arrived a little before 6:00 and were seated immediately. Our waitress was extremely attentive and even noodled my dad as he was dishing it out!! Kudos!!!
Dinner was delicious!! My father and I both had Ouso Bucco!! Amazing! Fell off the bone and the gravy was sinful! Mom had the small plate fish special, Grouper, which she said was cooked perfectly and was just the right portion. The other two in our party had strip steak and a filet, both cooked perfectly to order and flavorful! A very happy Table all around!!
Then to find out from our server, the owners and head chef are from Saratoga Springs, NY, our hometown!!! No wonder we felt
Right at home! Penny came out to say hi and we laughed at the coincidence!
If you are in the Port Charlotte/ Punta Gorda area, I highly recommend stopping here for a great dinner!!!
I almost forgot!!! The music!! The night we were there had a three piece Jazz band, piano, bass, and drums....they were fantastic! And we were informed there is music every night!!!
Enjoy!! Sad I don’t live there but will definitely visit the next time we are in town!!!
Thanks Penny, Lindsey (I think that was our servers name)(sorry I forgot!!), and Davis!!
Very nice overall. Great ambiance, service and food. We will return and recommend to friends.
First time eating there. The hummus salsa appetizer was great as well as the bread that comes with the olive oil and balsamic. Dinner was fabulous! Try the peach Martini - so good. I will certainly be back!
Great staff, delicious food, jazz music (not live - 4:30 dinner) and beautiful art pictures on screens throughout the large dining room. A very classy place! You need to clone yourself in Traverse City, MI where we live the other 8 months!
Food just average and noise level made it very difficult to talk and this only became worse when the piano player started
Our server was excellent !!!!!
Food was good, not great
No atmosphere.... much to noisy.. no ambiance
Piano music would have been enjoyable if we could hear it
I love the 1951 as a restaurant for special occasions. The service and food are pretty incomparable to existing restaurants in Port Charlotte. We've been 3 times now within 3 weeks. It's not cheap but you get what you pay for. Excellent.
We loved this place! Had a slight problem with a mix-up in the bill but otherwise food and service by Chad were outstanding.
The art on the walls is fascinating and the option of small plates at dinner is a great bonus.
We just booked again to come back Saturday and will bring 3 other couples with us. Always great if you want to want to bring friends to enjoy your dining experience!
Trying to be gentle here... Our experience wasn't bad, per se, hence the four stars across the board instead of lower. Her waitress was very friendly but a little overwhelmed by a larger table that was seated right after us. It took about 15 minutes to get our bottle of wine because she was busy answering questions at this other table.
Our food was good but not anything special. My wife had the filet mignon, slightly overcooked. I had a seafood dish which I did enjoy. The entertainment was live and the female of the duo was quite talented, saxophone flute and vocals. The pianist was okay. However, it was extremely loud to the point where I had to have my wife repeat everything she said even though she was sitting basically next to me.
All in all they tried hard however I would go to another upper scale restaurant rather than go back here.
Nice supper club atmosphere. Enjoyable soft jazz music. Not too loud.
Absolutely Terrific Dinner!
We were a party of 10. There were perhaps a dozen other patrons. Lots of staff. Excellent music. Dinner took almost three hours due to extraordinarily poor service. Drinks took forever, then arrived with the food. Nobody ever came around to fill water glasses. Orders got mixed up. Bussers and wait staff standing around. Our waitress kept disappearing for extended periods. When we finally were ready to leave, the "computer" system wasn't able to deliver our bills. When we finally got them, they had to be changed in several instances. The food was very good. Everyone complimented the chef
New owners are bringing back the Rat Pack vibe with live music and a fresh facelift inside. We definitely will be back!
Second time to eat at 1951. Food was excellent as it was the first time. Service was spectacular. Why? We had Shannon and she was training Chad. Between the two of them there was perfection. Nothing wrong! They even took the time to listen to old people's gab! It ain't cheap but if you want quality food and super service you pay for it.
We had the roast duck. When this is done correctly the skin is crispy and the meat is moist and falls off the bone. Here it was not quite crispy and the meat was too tough. Still delicious though.
Wait staff was very attentive and pianist was gracious asking me for my favorite songs.
A bit of a mix up at the beginning. We had reservations for 7:00 and they seated people with reservations for 7:30 before us. A bit confused at the front of the house. Dinner was good. Service was good. Overall would try again.
We arrived early for our reservation and checked in. The elderly gentleman was very polite but then proceeded to overlook us and seat 3 other parties, he then asked us again how he could help and had forgotten he had already spoken to us, he also forgot to check us in on the open table ap, which caused open table to think we didn't show up for our reservation. Not a great start to the night. Our server was delightful and apologized profusely about the amount of time it took to get our drinks and the delay in the food. Three of our party ordered appetizers, roasted brussel sprouts and 2 cups of the lobster bisque, very tasty and we have no complaints here. We followed that up with the Burrata Caprese with salad which was very basic, just cheese and tomatoes.
There was a long delay in between this food and our main dishes. Again the server apologised and said the kitchen was slammed. We ordered a variety of dishes, Chicken Modena, strip steak, lamb chops, and a filet mignon. I knew immediately that my steak was overcooked, more well done than medium, we called her over and had her remake the steak. The vegetables with three of the dishes were lukewarm and the couscous with the lamb was bordering on fridge cold. My husband had ordered a glass of wine before his meal and it actually never arrived. The filet came out the second time and again was definitely leaning towards well done, gray on the outside edges and a dime size amount of dark pink in the center. At this point, the server sent the manager to the table and he apologized and gave us both a free glass of wine.
It will be a while until we try this place out again.
Our server was fantastic. The food was very good, although the lunch salad was not filling even with shrimp as an add-on.
Not much to look at from the outside but the food was top notch.
We’ve came to this restaurant many times, and the overall value keeps going up. Love the additional music that’s been added and the food is outstanding. As former restaurant owners, we appreciate all the effort being put forth.
Above and beyond for service for a special occasion. The food was great and the music was a great bonus. Cool idea using tv screen to rotate digital artwork, it helped deter from the old “Days Inn” breakfast room look. Will be back!
We were celebrating my father’s 86th birthday, he loved everything about it including the music. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back.
First time since name change. We had a food allergy in our party and called prior to make sure they could accommodate and they assured us.
Upon request the waitress discouraged us to “Don’t order to ere on the side of caution” due to the allergy. We asked again about the ingredients and were steered away. “I don’t want anyone to get sick”. Next we ordered an appetizer of caprese. No balsamic reduction so I asked for some and received the entire bottle from the kitchen.
Entrees were extremely bland. Lacking flavor. Felt very rushed. Coffee was very weak, watered down. Actually undrinkable to all three of us.
Prices are average for the area, but not worth paying for bland food.
I don’t write reviews but felt it necessary in this case.
Great food...great service...wonderful ambiance!!
One of the best restaurants in the area!!
Piano music was nice, but kind of loud.
The wait staff was cordial from the young lady that brought us water to the waitress. They were accurate in the order, pleasant to talk with, and timely with both the food and check.
We so enjoyed celebrating our anniversary/Valentines Day at such a fabulous venue. The music, service & food all exceeded expectations. Looking forward to returning👍
went there for Valentine's day. they had a special 5 course meal. Our waiter Michael was attentive and informative. they had a background jazz band playing which was very nice. the 5 course meal of soup, salad, appetizer, main course and desert were spread out to allow you time to eat. will go back there to eat off the regular menu
Great food and good portions had two more meals of leftovers.
Portions of grouper sandwich low on fish, high on batter. Slaw was on bitter side. Service okay but charged meals to wrong credit cards.
We had a party of 6, and all loved their food. The entertainment was thoroughly enjoyable! We will be back!
Excellent food and friendly service. Nice surprise. I'll return again
If you are looking for a special dinner with great musical entertainment, this is the place to be. We had a wonderful evening!
