   Vacationing in Savannah, we made a 9:45pm reservation here based on reviews and press on this place. My wife and I are both Chefs and love finding the best flavors a city has to offer in our travels. We started out with anticipation of great food here. We arrived about 30 min. early, checked in and then sat at the bar. Bar staff was friendly and we had a cocktail and half a dozen oysters while waiting for our table. The oysters were delicious and I appreciated a customer seated next to me and the bar tender for recommending them! We were finally seated at 10:00pm a bit late but NP. We like to share our meals thus started with the crab and coconut app. We work fine dining and the portion was small even to us. While it tasted fine, it needed some pop, or something to make it memorable. We tried the quail as a second course and again while good, it just wasn't making a big impression on us. We tried the foie and grits, enjoying it. My wife had ordered the lamb shoulder but in looking at Entrees, nothing excited me as unusual or interesting so I had another second course, the rice with clams and calamari. While good flavors, I never found a clam, just calamari. I asked my wife how here lamb was and she said okay but not hot. I tried a bite and it was barely lukewarm. As she cut more into it, almost cold. We advised the waiter, and he was very apologetic, offering get a new dish but we passed, as it was late and not worth a refire in the kitchen. We know the kitchen drill on braised meats and re heating a braised dish is a no brainer. It should have been hot! At the prices being asked here, this is a mistake that should never happen. While the service was solid, the food flavors and creativity do not reflect the prices being asked in my opinion. We were looking for innovative, flavorful food but left with disappointment!

   Second visit for dinner , amazing quality and selection. Stopped for drinks on other occasions. Love the creative cocktails , the bartenders were amazing. Staff could not be more accommodating and friendly . Pricey but definitely worth it

   We were incredibly disappointed with our experience at The Grey. That having been said, our waiter went out of his way to remove almost all the food from our bill, which I greatly appreciated. Despite having a reservation, our table was not ready when we arrived. The starter we ordered was literally bite-sized, one to two bites total. We waited almost an hour for our entrees to arrive. The $38 NY strip was 2 tongue-sized pieces of burnt shoe leather. The manager insisted on replacing it with a small bowl of spaghetti. The tables were so crammed together and the noise level was so high, there was no ability to enjoy conversation or experience a romantic dinner. For a restaurant with such a phenomenal reputation, we are sorry we chose it for our 1st Wedding Anniversary. Pluses: a very cool historic setting; foie and grits were yummy. Maybe better at lunch??

   Our service was amazing; the hostess was welcoming and accommodating (we changed our reservation from 2 to 3 people), our waiter was knowledgeable and personable. The cocktails were unique and expertly crafted. Coming from D.C., I wanted to take my friend to a local hot-spot. We should have gone elsewhere. The fillet ($36) was tougher than it should have been and unremarkable. The special (whole presentation of rainbow trout) was well executed but again, not remarkable. The fois and grits was interesting but not worth the visit alone. The show stopper was the potatoes. I won't return until the passion gets back in the kitchen. Everything else was great

   The Grey came recommended through a friend. I was expecting a high-end looking upscale restaurant and found what looked like a 50's diner complete with semi-circle slide-in booths. We (4 women) were there very early (5:30) and although we were one of the first seated, others around us received their (same dish) orders before us. As the room filled it became extremely noisy. We were told by the waitress the sides would serve 2-3 (impossible). After a lonnnng wait for dinner we were offered bread, which didn't appear for another 15 minutes. By the time the main entrés were served (pork chops delicious, rainbow trout way over cooked) we had to speed-eat to make it to another event scheduled for 8PM. We all agreed we would have enjoyed a much better, less expensive, more conversational dinner elsewhere. Dinner for 4, 5 cocktails, including 20% tip..... $230.00

   Enjoyed nice meal with a girlfriend food was great. Service good. Initial experience in the bar so so. Wanted to order wine. Signage confusing. Bartenders not that helpful. Need to have a bar menu like the one in the restaurant.

   Ate at four of Savannah's best restaurants, and The Grey was the only one that I can recommend! Food and service were excellent. Our server Benjamin, also a local musician, provided attentive service and very complete familiarity with the menu and the wines. An excellent experience!
