First time in San Antonio and I was so impressed with my experience at The Granary. The atmosphere was nice, the decor was great, and the service was excellent. The food though... outstanding! Our server’s recommendation of the homemade buttermilk Texas toast was spot on. The ribs were easily some of the best I’ve ever had! Truly excellent meal!
Wonderful and accommodating restaurant in the pearl district
The first round of brisket that we ordered was a bit dry, and the second batch was very good. Should have been good both times. The menu wasnt quite what we saw at the website. The food was good, but I think the side orders could be better and have more variety. The overall experience, food and Pearl ambiance is well worth the visit, but a lot of room to improve.
We had an excellent July 4th luncheon. Brisket, sausage and ribs were all very good. The homemade bread and pickles were a nice addition. The burnt ends baked beans were especially tasty. We plan to return for their yummy looking daily specials.
Raw eggplant, tasteless fried appetizer, unrecognizable bolognese sauce. Very good thai brisket. Nice service.
This was our first time at The Granary since they introduced their new menu. Like that they have a bar and cocktails now as well as beers.
The food tasted great. A few hiccups - but nothing major.
We started with fritters - delicious, light appetizer. There were four of us for dinner - two ordered ribs, one ordered beef clod and another beef brisket with kimchi. Dinners came out at different times - first both ribs (but one had 6 and one 4 which seemed odd), five minutes later the brisket, then the brussel sprouts, then about another 10 minutes later the beef.
Maybe it was an off night or they're just getting the hang of doing table service this way.
It all tasted great, just made for a slightly "off" dining experience. We'll be back for another try though.
Fantastic cuisine exquisite in both consistency and variety. Excellent, truly excellent service - the best we’ve experienced in some time!
Good place but the food was deplorable. Worst brisket I have ever eaten. It was served just warm, with a poor and small strange salad. I wouldn’t recommend it on food quality. Service was fine, place is quaint.
It was good but not big portions for the prices. Also the brunch menu on Father’s Day was not the best.
Our waitress was very attentive, but we were very underwhelmed by the food. The Thai brisket was over salted, as were the mushrooms. The Brussels Sporuts and the Texas toast were very tasty. For the price and reputation, we expected a lot more. We likely won’t be back for dinner.
Awesome experience. Awesome food.
Everything e had from the appetizers to the entrees was delicious.
Had the St Louis ribs and the Texas toast both were Excellent!!!
I expect to have a good experience here and they haven't let me down yet! We had the seared scallops and the ramen bowl, while both seem odd choices for a BBQ place, they were delicious!
The service is always wonderful. I have been here many times and have never been disappointed with the food. The chef is wonderful.
The menu was not as extensive or as appetizing as shown in OpenTable. The grilled beets were good. The beef clod was terrible - dry in some parts, sweet in others, completely unbalanced. The “cornbread” was like eating a bland sponge cake. The chess pie dessert was also fairly one dimensional. Very uninspired, unbalanced food. I would not return.
An enjoyable meal and experience, as we have come to expect. The ribs were amazing, as was the wilted salad.
Rustic and charming...limited menu choices and all-a-cart style
Gourmet Grill is the best way I’d describe it. It’s not a BBQ place so don’t go thinking your going to get Brisket, Sausage, beans and rice with pickles and onions and a sweet tea. Small portions, but very premium and full of flavor. Kids 13 & 7 had quite an experience tasting the food and loved that the Maitake Mushroom tasted like a mouthwatering steak. Went at 6pm on a Saturday and it was nice before the crowd and the noise of people. Overall great experience, pricey compared to portion sizes but if you’re looking for an experience for a dinner on a date or special occasion I’d give it a try.
The food was phenomenal. The wait staff was knowledgeable and friendly.
We arrived and were seated promptly, several minutes later a server arrived and took drink orders. Drinks arrived 20 minutes later then we waited another 25 minutes to place an order, no appetizer order! We waited 30 minutes for cold food and again no additional drinks. The server arrived back 10 minutes later we placed a drinks order, when it arrived only half of the drinks on the order. Pretty poor service for expensive cold BBQ!
Brunch menu was very yummy. Have not ever been during lunch or dinner to sample the barbecue, but our Breakfast Benedict has chopped brisket. It was very good. The praline pancakes were delicious and the slab bacon is what dreams are made of. The house made Bloody Mary mix made for a great drink. We arrived at 11a on a gorgeous Saturday morning and were the only people there. By noon the place was packed. I would love to go back!
Awesome food, knowledgeable waitress who made great recommendations.
Great meal after The Granary - indulged and ordered 32 oz ribeye (shared between the three of us) - great beef, perfectly cooked, two amazing butters which went well with the steak. Service was good although a bit slow for our taste. Overall a good experience.
I would recommend to a friend but not for brunch. Eggs Benedict had no flavor. French toast was mostly just bread and jelly. Their bread is great but it didn't taste like French toast. I've always loved their lunch and dinner but will not return for brunch.
The ambience is what makes this place. We went for brunch, so I don’t know how their regular food menu, but brunch was ok. I got the French toast which was really good, my husband got the omelette that came with a salad. The salad tasted like wet lettuce, so that wasn’t very good, the omelette was just a egg omelette, so not much flavor and a little undercooked. The side of beef sausage he got, that we had to pay for, was phenomenal. Honestly, he should have just ordered a side of eggs and a side of sausage and it would have been cheaper and better! Overall, it was a neat experience, just order with caution for brunch. The location is perfect for the farmers market! We had a good time!
Good flavor but ribs had a lot left to be desired on tenderness. Half chicken had great flavor but a little pricey for chicken. Texas toast was amazing. We were sat close to the bar and all you could here were the bartenders and young group of guys screwing off being loud.
Great day for sitting out on the wrap-around porch to have some of the best BBQ in the city. Quality was excellent and the service was spot-on. Not a problem for me but the portions a little on the small side for the price.
Staff was very friendly and the food was fantastic. The brisket was delicious, tender and like butter.
We sat on the outside patio, so the total noise was very low. Inside all the surfaces are wood, so I expect it's louder inside.
At dinner, the menu is chef meets BBQ. There is some typical BBQ, but, there are very different smoked items, such as Brisket Ramen - not your typical south Texas BBQ joint.
We were a party of four and shared everything but the Ramen. Beef Clod, Pork Shoulder and some pork ribs plus smoked brussel sprouts and grilled beets. I suspect you recognize one of those...
The patio is a great place to enjoy a leisurely evening eating and chatting with friends.
The Granary is on the edge of the Pearl complex and is the "quiet" place to go.
The experience was good overall. Loved the drinks
Every dish was delicious!
The Granary has just gotten better and better, year after year. The new menu - and the new cocktails - are fresh and flavorful. I can’t get enough of the smoked miatake mushrooms. The smoked/chili-oil wings are the best in the city. The staff is SO attentive to everyone at the table and graciously accommodates vegetarians with suggestions and dish changes to make them comfortable. Always a top-notch experience here. Bravo!
Server was nice but forgot about us at the end. Ribs we
Went to celebrate my wife's birthday with the family(8 of us). Server took an abnormally long time to take drink orders and get drinks out. When food arrived, evryine's dishes came out at separate times and some orders were incorrect. That took some time to correct despite the restaurant not being that busy. The server was made aware of this however did not inform a manager and none came to speak with us to offer apologies. Even the check was presented after asking for it twice. Horrible service.
The food is gross.I was ripped off 80 dollars wasted.
Unique and creative menu; well executed and delicious.
Very Interesting way to eat Q. We shared brussel sprouts and wilted greens, ribs, briskit and burnt end bolognese. It was all delicious and we ended with a slice of buttermilk pie and bread pudding. We will recommend and go eat there again.
We went to the Granary on Saturday afternoon after a morning at the zoo. They were serving brunch at the time. We enjoyed our meals, pulled pork sliders, steak and eggs rancheros, and a pastrami hash. I would have liked to had their normal menu and really chowed down on some barbecue. They also had a good selection of craft beers as well.
The food was amazing, but I went to try their BBQ and ended staying for brunch. I wouldn’t recommend brunch. We saw quite a few people leave because of that
