Sunday roast excellent. Sirloin cooked to perfection. Nice and cool inside (during heatwave!) staff extremely friendly. Good value for centre of London

Thank you so much for the lovely review! We're thrilled you enjoyed the Sunday roast — especially the sirloin — and that our team made you feel welcome. Glad the cool air was a relief during the heatwave too! Great to hear you found us good value in the heart of London. Hope to see you again soon!

The food was lovely but they had run out of 2 of our choices already despite being fairly early in the evening, otherwise the food would have a higher review. The waitress however could not be faulted - really nice and very helpful.

Thank you for your honest feedback. We're really glad you enjoyed the food overall and that our waitress made such a positive impression — we'll be sure to pass on your kind words to her! We're sorry some of your choices were unavailable so early in the evening — we understand how frustrating that can be and are working to improve our stock levels. We hope to welcome you back for an even better experience next time!

Upstairs was lovely but the pub downstairs was too noisy for us to eat.

The George had been recommended for a classic pub experience, and we were not disappointed! The staff were friendly, the food was delicious, and we enjoyed the atmosphere of the 300+ year old establishment.

I ordered the chicken roast but the were to small leg joints with loads of bone splinters in them. Although the restaurant was comfortable and the service was good I found the food not worthy of the high price. I will not be back.
The George, Pub & RestaurantResponded on May 27, 2025
Thank you for your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear that your recent dining experience with us did not meet your expectations. We appreciate your kind words about the restaurant atmosphere and service, but we take your concerns about the chicken dish seriously. We strive to deliver both quality and value, and it's clear we missed the mark this time. Your comments will help us improve, and we hope you'll consider giving us another chance in the future.

We returned to The George in May for a Sunday Roast, having had a fantastic experience back in February - so we were genuinely looking forward to another enjoyable afternoon. Sadly, this visit didn't live up to our previous one. We were one of the first tables to arrive and were seated on a table in front of the upstairs counter/bar area, despite the larger, more pleasant space near the kitchen getting completely empty. When we asked if we could move. We were told those tables were all booked (I also had a booking). However, over the course of the lunch, we noticed that only one or two of those tables were ever occupied, which felt a bit dismissive. Service was off from the start, are drinks order was taken but not correctly delivered. When our food arrived, the server had her thumb in the gravy, which was off-putting. Unfortunately, the food itself wasn't up to the standard we remembered: the roast tasted reheated, the potatoes were dry and hard, and some of the nice touches we enjoyed last time, like the roasted carrots and creamed Spinach, we're gone, replaced with red cabbage. Had this been our first visit, I'm not sure we'd be eager to return. It's a shame because our February experience was genuinely excellent, but this time the service, the food, and the overall atmosphere felt lacking. Hoping this was just an off day for what we know can be a great spot.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re really sorry to hear that your recent visit didn’t live up to the great experience you had in February. That’s certainly not the standard we aim to uphold. We’re especially sorry to hear about the seating situation, service missteps, and the quality of the roast—it’s disappointing to know we fell short on all fronts. Your comments have been shared with the team so we can look into what went wrong and make improvements. We do hope you’ll consider giving us another try, and if you’d be open to discussing your visit further, please feel free to get in touch directly—we’d really value the chance to make things right. All the best, Team George
