El The George Public House es la reencarnación victoriana de una cafetería del siglo XV. Está situado en la esquina de Strand con Fleet Street, justo en frente de la espectacular arquitectura de los Reales Tribunales de Justicia y a 10 minutos a pie del West End. En otoño de 2014, el The George se sometió a una reforma amplia y considerable de la planta baja y del salón comedor de la 1ª planta. Con esta reforma, se consiguió un restaurante elegante y sofisticado: The Pig and Goose en el The George y el salón comedor privado Horace Walpole. The experience was really nice! A very tasty Sunday roast (especially the one with pork belly), service was awesome, price was very fair and the place is beautiful. I would highly recommend!

I ordered the chicken roast but the were to small leg joints with loads of bone splinters in them. Although the restaurant was comfortable and the service was good I found the food not worthy of the high price. I will not be back.

We returned to The George in May for a Sunday Roast, having had a fantastic experience back in February - so we were genuinely looking forward to another enjoyable afternoon. Sadly, this visit didn't live up to our previous one. We were one of the first tables to arrive and were seated on a table in front of the upstairs counter/bar area, despite the larger, more pleasant space near the kitchen getting completely empty. When we asked if we could move. We were told those tables were all booked (I also had a booking). However, over the course of the lunch, we noticed that only one or two of those tables were ever occupied, which felt a bit dismissive. Service was off from the start, are drinks order was taken but not correctly delivered. When our food arrived, the server had her thumb in the gravy, which was off-putting. Unfortunately, the food itself wasn't up to the standard we remembered: the roast tasted reheated, the potatoes were dry and hard, and some of the nice touches we enjoyed last time, like the roasted carrots and creamed Spinach, we're gone, replaced with red cabbage. Had this been our first visit, I'm not sure we'd be eager to return. It's a shame because our February experience was genuinely excellent, but this time the service, the food, and the overall atmosphere felt lacking. Hoping this was just an off day for what we know can be a great spot.

The food was pretty bland and the overall experience very underwhelming. We tried all the Sunday roasts and the beef was definitely better than the others. Stay away from the pork belly! The baked cheese was good and the cauliflower cheese had no salt or flavor.

A friendly classic pub. The upstairs dining room is where you want to go for a quieter environment. The food was good especially the whole grilled lemon sole and the service was very good and friendly. For a pub it seemed expensive but we did have two cocktails and two glasses of wine.
