This was our second time at the Gage and it was just as great as our visit 2 years ago. The menu selections had just been updated and the meals were excellent. The Gage is a favorite and we'll be back on our next visit to Chicago.
It was great as always !
Very Good Location. Great Service. Amazing Food. Awesome Atmosphere.
Food was average and overpriced.
Our booth was extremely dark and had to use flashlight to read menu & see food. Our waitress was slow and forgetful on a couple of things. Total bill was $200 plus $35 tip for 4 drinks 2 appetizers & NY steak & a Burger....
The Gage is consistently one of the best restaurants in the Loop.
Another great experience at The Gage! Wonderful food and service.
Completely forgot I had added our anniversary to Open Table. We hadn’t planned for this to be our celebration but were very pleasantly surprised when we were served a champagne toast for the occasion 😄! Thank you so much! It was wonderful and greatly appreciated. Will be back again.
We were visiting Chicago and actually ate at the Gage twice during our four-day trip. The food for the Sunday brunch as well as a late lunch was delicious. We would recommend to anyone if they must go to the Gage!
Food was good, nothing exceptional. The noise level is maddening and we were in a quiet area. I have perfect hearing, but I hate listening to other people screaming at each other, which is necessary in this environment. When are restaurants going to snap out of it? This is not a single's bar or a night club.
The coconut curry was amazing!
Excellent place for brunch and right on Michigan Avenue
Our entire experience was great other than our servver. All the other staff was amazing, however!
Noisy, though asked for a quiet spot. Food was excellent. Service was great, too. Liked the back room with booths, generous amount of space and less distracting due to fewer tables in the location.
Really surprised me. With the location on Michigan Ave, was expecting ridiculous pricing and mediocre food. But food was terrific and worth the price, especially with the excellent service!
The fried pickled gherkins were an all time low on the culinary front.
The rest of the food was reasonable but not outstanding .
The waiter was not over friendly but warmed on acquaintance and fortunately did not keep pestering us with enquires about our food so scored highly there.
It was quite noisy but where we were there were sufficient soft features to absorb some sound so conversation was possible. So overall pleasant but not outstanding .
I haven’t been in several years and you have changed the mussels. They used to be my favorite.
I went to the Gage with my 11 year old son and 16 year old daughter to celebrate Mother's Day. The server wasn't a bit friendly and didn't smile once. My bill was over $150 and we have about half the food we'd ordered left over to take home.
Some of the almost near FULL dishes weren't included in our to-go bag, as if the service staff chose what they wanted us to take home instead of giving us what we'd asked for - EVERYTHING.
My daughter was searching for her 3 quarters full serving of mash potatoes when we returned home and they were...not there??
I generally tip 20% or more for good service, but this go round, I tipped less than 10% and that was generous.
I will not return to this restaurant. One of the wonderful things about dining in Chicago is, there are an abundance of options where the servers act as if they are happy to serve; particularly on a special day!
Delectable meal and our server Trent was amazingly wonderful.
Ate dinner on May 10 and brunch on May 12. Both times food and service were excellent! Shrimp curry quite rich so I didn't finish it, but it was very good. Very busy and noisy on Friday night at 6pm - happy hour and early dinner crowd and was still going strong when we left at 8pm. Sunday lunch at the bar was a treat - Kaylee recommended the venison burger and it did was delicious. She was fun and friendly and treated us well. We chose it the first time because it was so close to the Palmer Hotel where we were staying; we went back because we liked it so much.
We were there for Mother's Day brunch. The Chilaquiles were great, also the corned beef hash, strawberry and hearts of palm salad and the scone with clotted cream. Coffee is really good too.
Its pretty decent food for a reasonable price considering the location. Ate brunch. Monte Cristo was good, pastry was good and the pancakes were very underwhelming. Great servers and a cool atmosphere. No children's options which I thought was odd considering it was mother's day brunch.
This was a pre-symphony dinner, so the location was ideal. We were greeted warmly and seated immediately even though we were early. The staff was attentive , the menu brief but fine. I ordered the fish special, which was excellent. The area manager asked for feedback because it was a new preparation. I got the feeling he really wanted to know. I also ordered the Gage g&t wondering how something so basic could be upgraded. It was a cut above, probably because of the high quality of both the gin and the tonic.
The food was excellent and our server was great. Everyone working there was very attentive making sure we had what we needed. Our food came out very quickly after ordering - even our server was shocked to see how quickly it came out! We sat in the back dining area and it was not loud at all even though they were pretty busy. We did notice a significant volume difference as we got closer to the front of the house/bar area but it didn’t affect our experience at all which amazed us!
Great service, delicious food. Fast timing getting our food especially considering we had a group of 8.
Great old style restaurant near the Art Institute. Bustling vibe, good solid menu. Meal salads very fresh and interesting; mushroom burger good; tomato basil soup outstanding. Would be happy to go back when we feel like eating in an energetic space.
The Gage is our go to place in Chicago. We have been going for years. Billy Lawless is amazing as are all the people he employs! It is a vibrant spot in the city, in a great location and just fun to enjoy.
Very well organized and staffed restaurant with very good food. Small plates are generous portions as are the salads so they can be shared. The fired pickles were outstanding!
Great food and atmosphere. Nice selection of cocktails and wine.
Celebrated college graduation with a group of 12 for lunch! Sat us right at reservation time, and had wonderful server. Even brought us complementary champagne for a toast! Highly recommend.
I wish they had more standard American food options. I had the soft shell crab sandwich last time and while it tasted fairly good, there wasn't much meat. Service was excellent and beer options are great.
Food was fine, but not outstanding. Noise level was way too high. Now, maybe I'm out of touch, but $150 for two salads, two hamburgers, two beers, two glasses of wine and two mixed drinks seems pretty high to me. I will not say that I will not be back, but I will not say that I will either.
Enjoyed and will go back. Went for dinner. Adding live music would be nice.
Great ambiance, killer bar, great location but the food was just average.
Alwaysasolid Android experience our waiter was very good and let us enjoy a liesurely meal.
Everything was really good. One thing that surprised us was that none of the dessert options sounded appealing, so as sweets people it was kind of a bummer to not order a single dessert for such a large party. Would be good to have a couple more normal dessert items versus all being so strange (I don’t know too many people who want black pepper in their dessert for example)
Loved the entire Vibe...great food and atmosphere. You want to wrong dining here. Terrific value fir the money.
Every time I have dined at The Gage- from my entry until departure I find my experience warm, inviting and uplifting! Staff is cool, Food is delicious, and that kitchen is amazing with their timing! LOVE IT.
Why weren’t any points awarded
The scallops are to die for! Wonderful service and a good wine list too!
They need more variety on the menu. Food was great and their servers excellent.
