Awesome service. Staff throughout was wonderful. Food was disappointing. Lacking flavor.
We were very impressed with The Gables and can't wait until we can go back. The food was spectacular and service couldn't have been better.
The waiter was nice but it took too long to approach us and ask about drinks. Portions way too small. We ordered three appetizers and five entrees but left the restaurant and drove to a diner to eat a decent meal. One of them was grilled calamari and shrimps. Calamari were undercooked and taste less, only three shrimps. Our pasta was al dente as we requested , but very very small amount. We were hungry and thought we could at least enjoy and fill on desserts. Very small dessert menu, basic and two out of five choices were not available. It was 5 of us. We ordered 3 appetizers and were very disappointed , five entrees , a bottle of wine $30.00 and payed 220.00 before tips. We are not going back!!
The food was fantastic and plentiful. Nice environment and attentive staff
Everything about our experience was so-so. We went for brunch. Nothing was memorable. It was all just fine. A comment about service…had to practically beg for a second cup of coffee. At brunch…no good.
Lastly, gentleman who greeted us. - we arrived right at opening time - said “you’re up early”. Then went on to complain about being there late the previous night as a way of telling us they weren’t ready for us at the time of our reservation. Heard the same guy ask two women at an adjacent table if they “were moving in”. Idk if he was trying to be funny with his comments, but neither seemed intended for laughs.
Won’t be back.
Extremely disappointed…..walked in for 7:30pm OpenTable reservation. After waiting a few minutes for hostess, hostess informed us that they were not honoring any other reservations for the evening and we would not be seated. No other explanation provided and no proposed solution to make it up to us.
Our first time at The Gables, it was great!! Definitely recommend… food was very good!
we weren't asked if we wanted to be inside or out. Someone an unidentified person approached our table and corrected our wine choice - recommending a MUCH BETTER SELECTION $ 15.00 higher. Not priced on the wine list. It was in his head!. His claim! I do not go out on a Saturday to be abused! Don't plan to return anytime soon regardless of a wonderful meal and a delightful server!
We were seated as soon as we arrived. We waited 30 minutes and no one approached our table for anything. We notified the hostess who sent someone to take our drink order only. That person said someone else would be by to take our food order. We decided to leave at that point. Very disappointed!
Food was excellent
Orders filet medium rare came rare, the vegetables were over done as well. When it came back to the table it was well done, vegetable looked better, so she was done with steak and ordered the cheese board. Which had three hard cheeses, instead of a hard, medium and soft cheese, the crostino was too hard to eat. The dinner experience was ruined all together, this is our swan song.
The food was awful and service terrible. I was treating my direct reports to a thank you lunch. We had not been there in years but had heard it was lovely. I ordered 3 items and all of them were awful. The waitress had no clue what cheeses or sauces were on the cheeseboard. Soup was cold both times they brought it out. The food was really unimpressive and very expensive.
The waiter Martin was wonderful, food and drinks were great. Definitely going there again.
My wife and I went to Gables for lunch on our sixth anniversary and we had a great time. This is where we got married and it was very nostalgic. The food isn’t as good as it used to be but it’s still above average. They were under staffed during lunch but they were still able to operate consistently and the staff showed no signs of pressure. This is a classic local restaurant that we will be coming back to.
Requested outside upon making reservations but would not accommodate. Server not well versed on availability of beer. No bread served and they do not split a salad for two. Is this really too hard? Salmon dinner and brick chicken very nicely done. What really ruined the evening was we were at the table near the entrance to the kitchen and the entire staff was literally running past us the entire time. We were completely unable to relax and just wanted to eat and get out of there. Not acceptable.
We had a lovely dinner for my wife's birthday. Great appetizers, generous portions for the entrees and we even got some wine that has yet to make it on the wine list yet. I would recommend visiting the Gables for good cocktails as well as dinner.
Love this place! The outdoor patio is so nice. Food is always great!
It was fine. I had the burger,. It was ok, the cheese board was good, my husband had shrimp and grits they were really watery and sort of tasteless. It is a pretty place and the waiter was ok. Pretty average overall. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here.
Really lovely patio, and even with a party in the upper patio the noise was very manageable. The service was very good, and not rushed. Everything we had was delicious. Lovely spot for lunch before heading to Longwood Gardens (about 7 min down the road).
We have had many nice evenings and good meals at the Gables, and we gave our daughter-in-law's baby shower there, so we were looking forward to having dinner with friends there last evening. The service was pleasant but slow--our friends were seated before us and never were given menus. It took forever to get water and for the server to come and take drinks orders. The food was very disappointing. Small portions at large prices and not very tasty. Two of us had the scallops--there were just three not very large scallops that were not well seared. The risotto had no taste, nor did the gastrique which looked more like ketchup than anything else and didn't really have much flavor either. The crab cakes were acceptable but not special and the strip steak was somewhat underdone and not terrific. Sadly it seems we will need to scratch this once favorite restaurant off our list.
We hadn't been to the Gables in a few years since we moved, but found ourselves in the area. It feels like they may have lost a step. Although the atmosphere and service were nice, the food preparation was just OK. The cocktail and desert menu was also, less than inspired. The highlight of the night was the cheeseboard, which was nicely prepared with an interesting selection of cheeses.
Great server. Food was ok.
Always a great meal here. Excellent service and terrific menu
This is our second time here. The food is absolutely outstanding, probably the best we have eaten in the US or around the world! Very highly recommended!!! The service this time was not the best, it was extremely slow, the waitress did not come once to ask if we needed anything or if the food was good. Still, next time we are in the area, we will come to enjoy the great cooking!
Food is good but very very noisy when there are larger parties. Would not recommend for special occasions.
We had a good time at the Gables. Food and service were on point. Thanks!
I ordered the salmon which was very moist. My husband’s chicken was tender, topped with lightly cooked artichokes, olives, and cherry tomatoes. We split opinions on the fried green tomatoes.
I have enjoyed the Gables for nearly 20 years. I would call this dining experience Good vs. Very Good. The food was very good, and the design and décor impressed my sisters, which I expected. I always get a Kennett Square mushroom dish and the flatbread did not disappoint. It was an usually long wait for service, but he was good when he got to us. I wish we had requested to be re-seated further from a couple of large parties. It was difficult to hear our one another's conversation. Some unclean details were disappointing: dirty appetizer dish at a place setting and filthy hand sanitizer on our table was kind of an oxymoron.
Service was great but the main meal was awful. Steak was gritty/fatty and my meal was bland/no flavor. Prices are high for what we received. Man next to me was very loud in conversation. We were very disappointed as we were looking forward to dining there.
Everything we had was awesome. The Salads, both Burrata and Roasted Beet, were great, as was the mushroom soup, the cheddar grits were awesome, and the pasta with the mushroom truffle cream was exceptional. Not to mention the turamusu. The roasted Brussel sprouts were the best we have ever had! Everything was delicious.
Was there for lunch with group of friend who haven't seen each other for years. We were there for a couple hours and the staff was very accommodating and keep checking in to see if we needed anything throughout our long lunch. Atmosphere was wonderful, fresh farm style and comfortable.
Service was slow. Was not crowded and it took nearly 90 minutes for dinner. No pre dinner drinks, no dessert. Food was ok. Had the crab cakes and they were 75% filler. So much so they just crumbled apart. Too many good options in the area and have given them multiple opportunities to win us over.
Three in our family went Saturday, August 14, for a birthday lunch. We shared the roasted avocado as an appetizer. The gentlemen ate for lunch the chicken sandwich, and the birthday girl, a South Carolina native, a scrumptious fried green tomato sandwich. We thoroughly enjoyed our desserts--orange sorbet and "Ann's Chocolate Espresso Cake." The Chocolate Espresso Cake was the best ever. We also loved the specialty cocktails--the Gingered Lemon and Lime Martini, and the Spicy Gin Martini. Our service was excellent.
We have visited in the past for holiday buffets and were never been disappointed, but this was our first regular plated meal since the restaurant changed hands in 2011. We expect to be back. We really love everything about this restaurant--its ambience, it's delicious food, and its service.
Thank you for a wonderful birthday meal.
We sat at our table for 15 mins and no one came over to us. We tried to eat at the bar next but there was only one bartender and seems overwhelmed with drinks from tables. Not sure if they were short staffed, but ended up not eating and left to go to another restaurant.
Our group decided to get a bunch of items to share- everyone loved the avocado crostini, mushroom flatbread and artichoke appetizer.
Food was great and the patio was serene.
We enjoyed the mussels and our entrees. Everything was very good.
Nice menu, food was very good! Sat outdoors which was extremely nice
Lovely place and wonderful food! The service was fabulous as well!
