Mushroom Soup Gratinée
Kennett Square Mushrooms, Broth, Crostini, Melted Gruyère Cheese
Seared Diver Scallops
Lemon and Herb Risotto, Crispy Leeks Wine, Red Pepper Orange Gastrique Pairing Suggestion ~ Château Pilet, White Bordeaux
Shrimp and grits and kennett square chicken was excellent. Only negative was $17 for a hamburger was a bit pricey.
I have dined here several times and last night was very disappointing. Crab cakes were mostly bread filler. The lobster ravioli sauce was very bland. Service was slow.
Our family was very disappointed in our meal. The restaurant had no IPA's to offer. The two flatbreads we got were more like bad pizza. The shrimp cocktail was not good. The crabcakes and the special bronzino were disappointing as well. The service was also very slow, and they couldn't process my Open Table gift card.
This restaurant has a lot of potential, but the food needs to be improved, along with the service.
Phil was our server. He was working so hard to cover the outside area and was apologetic that it was taking longer than usual to get our food. It was a beautiful night and we sat outdoors so it was fine . He was a great waiter and his recommendations were right on . Everything was delicious — great cocktails, fried calamari and two of us had the evening specials—Bronzino, salmon and gnocchi. Both were delicious. Another one had the pork chop —very tender and good.
Left after 5 minutes because the wedding upstairs was very very loud throughout the restaurant.
Great service and fantastic food. Atmosphere very comfortable.
The first time I have been there where no one was at the desk for seating. We waited 10 minutes to be seated when tables were readily available.
Temp too cold
Some items not available
Noise level TOO HIGH
Pleasant staff. Excellent food
We were seated immediately… great.
Trace our server was outstanding.. so personable and professional. We had calamari, chicken Caesar salad, a crab cake sandwich on a lucious brioche roll, creme brûlée for dessert and a few espresso’s… all were wonderful
We’ll be visiting again soon.
Great food great decor food was great. Will be back
We had an excellent meal here. I wish we could have sat in the outside area which is beautiful, but the rainy weather prevented that. The food and service were great. We will be back!
Our first time going to The Gables - everything was EXCELLENT. Warm greeting from hostess, very attentive wait staff, and delicious food. We will definitely be returning. An excellent experience from beginning to end.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Our waiter was excellent and answered all our questions. The ambiance was very comfortable. Rain kept us from enjoying the outdoor seating which looks fabulous. We will be coming back in nice weather.
Leisurely lunch. The best thing here is the food! But drinks and service are excellent too. Pricey, but worth it.
Just so so
Had 8:30 reservation but was not informed restaurant closes at 9. Staff were lovely and consoling through it all
Was super excited to try this place, but was disappointed. Our server took our drink order right away… then took a while for the drinks and the place seemed empty. Can’t imagine the wait during a busy time. We heard the waitress at the next table discussing the specials - half of which our waitress did not mention to us. We were offered bread for the table after we were finished with our appetizers - bread never came. We had the filet and NY strip which were both really good, however, the portion sizes are very small for the price. We each got a tiny spoonful of mashed potatoes and about 10 half green beans.
Love love love. I highly recommend this place. Decided to go on a whim, first time here and had no idea what to expect. Other than the most adorable outdoor area the atmosphere was fabulous. We practically felt hidden away from the world and couldn’t be happier. The food was spectacular from the cheese board to the fried tomatoes with burrata (must try) to the filet. Drinks were great and the wine bottle selection is just right and doesn’t break the bank.
Highly recommend it. Service was fantastic and we felt like we were welcomed and appreciated. Food was truly amazing and the quality from the ingredients being locally sourced really shone through. I will be back and I can’t wait.
I overheard staff speaking with others that they are redoing the outside area. Looking at the rock wall next to our table we saw dried up gourds - from the Fall? - lots of cobwebs, orange cones around certain areas, water flowing down into parking lot, etc. Redo is needed, and place will probably look great when complete - but wish we knew that was happening before we went.
The waiter was friendly and attentive. The food was mediocre.
Waiter was great. Wait for food was longer than expected.
They were so understaffed that we waited 20 minutes to be seated and another 25 minutes to have anyone stop at our table, and they only stopped because we called them over. We ended.up leaving after 50 minutes without ordering anything.
Awful! I hate to give this charming location such a bad rating but it is well deserved.
Gives the impression of farm to table style restaurant but comes up severely lacking on the delivery. I ordered mushroom soup. I was presented with high sodium vegetable broth with an oily piece of bread on top with a few mushrooms thrown in. It was presented in a cute iron cast soup pot with wilted and yellowed arugula as garnish. Seriously?! Needless to say not a good start for our appetizer that we waited for over 45 minutes.
Service was slow. Our waiter didn’t ask us if we wanted drinks. Bread for the table neither offered or brought.
Shame but they won’t be getting a second chance. Hoping they get their food quality and service at much higher standards.
Arrived on time and was seated. A server came over after 10 minutes and brought water and told us she was not our server and someone would be with us soon. We waited an additional 15 minutes and no one came or even looked at us. We then left.
The worst drinks ever! Food was solid but for the price solid is not good enough.
While the food was good and some staff members tried to be accommodating, it was evident there was not enough staff. A waiter sat us and said everyone called off and they did not have a bartender. They were also finishing a wedding and starting one. Another waiter kept complaining about how tired he was. And then the best part- there was a waste truck that pulled up and pumped something for the last 15 minutes of our meal. I will be certain to not dine here again.
They are short staffed - no problem - but them don’t take as many reservations. Two-and-a-half hours to get lunch is ridiculous. Server was good - he was trying, but it was out of his control!
Good on off hours or avoid for now.
Sad and Sorry - used to be very nice there.
We recently moved to the area and several people told us to try it we came for the first time with my in laws. The server tried his best but it seemed under staffed and the food was subpar for the hype.
Second time dining here and was just as nice as the first time. Sat in a booth instead of a table the table chairs were metal and looked uncomfortable. The appetizer, entire, and dessert were wonderful. The fish I had was a little dry but delicious just the same. 2 1/2 hour meal that was relaxing and not rushed. Will go again.
Outstanding food, service and ambiance. Will definitely be back!
It was Mother's day & we did not know what to expect
Holidays can be tough in the restaurant industry
Everything from our server Martin to the food, the atmosphere, all of it, surpassed any and all of our expectations. We never once felt like we were rushed to turn the table
The food was fresh, well done, & beautifully presented
The drinks were GREAT
3 different appetizers, calamari & shrimp, seared tuna & the bruschetta were all excellent starts to our time together, after the drinks of course!
The vegetables and sauces with our 2 different chicken dishes were so good, we almost forgot the chicken but glad we did not...so good!
Hubby's short ribs put quite smile on his face
Martin was patient and knowledgeable and seemed to turn up just as we might want his attention without hovering or being over bearing...wonderful old school waiter!
We had an absolutely outstanding time
This place is an old family favorite and it will continue to be because it seems to just get better! Highly recommended!!!!
Poor texture and no color to food, or vibrancy to flavors. Not everything needs to be served with a starch. For the cost of non-alcoholic beverages the lemonade have been at least homemade. Lastly, the noise level was too loud, it was too dark to even read the menus and tables were too close together (which is odd given we're still in a pandemic!).
Well it was Mother’s Day people say it’s the worst time to dine out. We have eaten here in the past and it has been wonderful. But I guess they really are struggling to hire efficient waiters and waitresses in the different times we are experiencing.
We dined here for the first time on Mother’s Day and similar to the other reviews from that day, had an incredibly poor experience. We waited over 20 minutes for our server to come over, which was the first and only time she filled our water. We asked one of the other staff if we could get water and rather than helping us or getting someone she simply told us she was only cleaning tables and walked away. The restaurant was clearing up from a Mother’s Day brunch event the entire time, so dishes, trays, glasses, and silverware were clattering around the whole meal which was very unpleasant and made it hard to hear conversation as well as any music that may have been playing. Waitress was inattentive and despite being her only table, she would disappear in between taking our order or bringing a course, and each course took far too long to arrive. I had the burger which like everything else was overpriced, and I requested it be cooked medium but it was served so dry and well done that it fell apart. Since we’d waited over 45 min for the food to arrive I didn’t send back, instead opting to just not come back.
This was our visit and I was so excited to go for Mother’s Day after hearing several recommendations from friends but was sadly disappointed with our experience. We had 4pm reservations and were sat in the upstairs event room. This would have been okay except staff were clearly cleaning up after the Mother’s Day Brunch that took place earlier in the day. Staff were breaking down tables, hauling away large catering containers, sweeping, etc. It felt like a construction zone. We were also sat at a table that would have easily sat 8-10 so the 5 of us were oddly spread out. Over half the tables were empty and there wasn’t any music which created an overall uncomfortable atmosphere. Since this was our fist visit, I thought this was their only dining area and was surprised it wasn’t more crowded since we had a very hard time finding a reservation. It wasn’t until we were leaving and decided to explore the first level that we found the “real” dining area and bar! This would have been SO much more appropriate considering our party size and that we were not there for the brunch and therefore there wasn’t a reason to put us up in the event room to watch them clean up. If the food was fantastic, I may have been a little more forgiving but this was not the case. So sorry we didn’t have a better experience because I will not be recommending The Gables based on this experience.
Mother’s Day brunch here was fabulous! It was our first visit here and all four of us enjoyed the food (even our guest who just overcame cancer and needs only soft foods), drinks, coffee and our EXCELLENT service by Gretchen. She made sure we had enough food from the buffet, was friendly and made our experience even sweeter! The only suggestion we had for the brunch is to have more dessert options! But we will be back!
The Gables menu is incredible and the atmosphere is always lovely. We dine here regularly on special occasions.
Unfortunately our Mother’s Day brunch was a bit of a disappointment. Our party of four was sat at a table for eight. It wasn’t communicated that the buffet was the only option for the day. It took us longer to get the check than it took us to get and finish our food, which wasn’t bad. It felt like we crashed someone’s brunch wedding reception.
Booked a couple weeks in advance for Mother’s Day and was never told about
Food was cold Mother’s Day brunch
