We had a wonderful time. We were a large group and the staff was absolutely wonderful and gracious. The cocktails were fantastic and the food was great. We will visit again.
My friends and I ate outside in the Garden....lovely setting! Our waitress was wonderful, the food was presented nicely, and everyone in our group was pleased with their meal! I’ve already recommended this restaurant to family members!
We sat outside on their covered patio. It was just lovely.
Staff was friendly. Food was very good. Portions were not huge but were acceptable since it was fine dining. Atmosphere was very nice with a rustic enclosed in patio. Interior dining was very nice looking.
The food was very good and well-presented. The desserts were exceptional! The live music, especially the piano, helped to create a quiet evening atmosphere that we enjoyed with our meal.
The only disappointment was the service. Our waiter was extremely slow and apologized at the end of our evening, asking us to give him another chance. He said that he had a difficult table in another section which was why he could not give us the attention befitting such a restaurant. However, we saw him chatting a lot with patrons at two other tables while we waited.
One positive while we waited and waited between courses was the live jazz which brought back some very fond memories.
We would have given our experience a higher rating, had it not been tarnished by the service.
We will return and hope that we have a better service experience.
Food was good for lunch options. We sat outside in a hot summer day and the bees were out to get us, our own fault! Server very nice and accommodation to all our requests. Not a lot of people when we first got there but it started to get packed on the patio. Overall nice place, we weren’t in any rush so we took our good old time and we didn’t feel like we were getting pushed out the door.
Great place to go unwind, and enjoy a great meal!
Very easy access for those with walking problems. Excellent service. Love the cloth tablecloths and napkins. Variety of menu and smaller portion abailability was great. Food absolutely delicious. A +++
First time there on approaching my sister and I remarked that it reminded us of Pace One until we saw the dining room. It was so dark so we decided to sit outside which would have been lovely but it had not been swept there was a lot of leaves and debris. The food was excellent but wished it wasn’t so dark it made everything look old
Good atmosphere and decent food. I wish I would have know that the outdoor beer garden was closed for a wedding before I booked it. The reason we chose the restaurant was to enjoy a few drinks out there before a late dinner.
Food was mediocre. Service was good but th only thing that stands out here it’s ambiance-that’s about it.
We usually love the Gables but were disappointed in the service, and the food was not at the same quality as it used to be. It will probably be awhile before we go back and try it again.
Been there several times and have not been disappointed in the food or service.
My husband & I had a very enjoyable brunch after church. My Bananas Foster French Toast was delicious! The coffee was fresh & strong-just as I like it. He chose the Eggs Benedict, which was made with a thick bacon instead of the traditional Canadian bacon. Great flavor! Brunch buffet seemed to have a nice variety as well.
Our server, Mindy was attentive & friendly.
Although not very busy, the two other tables had parties with small children.
The best meal we have had here in s while.all three of us enjoyed our meal.
We always have a great experience here. Food is tasty and the service is friendly.
Awesome from start to finish. Charred romaine and Kennett mushrooms for apps, all four of us ordered from the menu (pork tenderloin, shrimp and grits, salmon and red snapper) and all four plates went back whistle clean. Ok - not the Shrimp & Grits (took some home) as the portion size was overly generous. Seriously one of their BEST dishes. More bacon and more u10 Sweet Shrimps than you’ll find anywhere. Throw in fresh bell peppers from the garden, Carolina grits and more ‘shrooms from Kennett and you’ll be hard pressed to find a more rib sticking, hearty dish in Delaware County. Always a great time, in a wonderful setting with experienced wait and kitchen teams.
Our first visit - for my birthday. Hubby loved his scallops and brother demolished his shrimp and grits. We sat in the main restaurant - could have used more subdued lighting. Will sit on porch next time.
We took my parents there for their anniversary. The food was great and the server was very attentive. It was somewhat loud in the bar but we were surprised how
Much quieter it was in the dining room.
Our waiter was one of the best ever, I wish I could remember his name. We never felt rushed, he was very accurate about descriptions of different dishes.
The negative was that the shrimp on the shrimp and grits dish were probably boiled instead of sautéed.
We three ordered Red Snapper, scallops, and salmon. All done to perfection. We had roasted brussel sprouts for appetizer and they disappeared very quickly. Service was excellent - she made good recommendations. The manager asked us afterward how the meal was and we had a few minor suggestions which she very graciously heard. I eat here whenever i am in the area and i have not been disappointed.
Food was good, service was mediocre. They sat us at our table, then completely forgot about us. Which is hard to explain since they weren't very crowded for a Saturday night (several open tables). After about an hour I went back to the hostess to ask where our waiter was. They quickly sent someone over (who was apologetic and ended up being a good waitress). They also gave us complimentary desert, which helps, but in an upscale place this should not happen. By no choice of our own we were the last to leave the restaurant, which I feel a little since our babysitter is on the clock.
We had a slow waitress with a serious attitude problem. The food was adequate but nothing to write home about. Very noisy, however, the waitress liter throwing menus and plates onto the table and horribly slow service was the big problem. Initially, her advanced pregnancy got her a pass. Eventually, she ruined the dining experience.
Great spot for a spontaneous anniversary meal!!! We’ll definitely come back again!
Really enjoyed our meal again! As good a filet mignon as I have ever had. Great wine at the right temperature. Charming, and so Chester County. All 4 of us had a wonderful experience.
We decided to try the Gables again after many years and we were really disappointed. The place is pretty and it was fairly quiet. Not much good to say otherwise. The chicken was tough and mashed potatoes were runny. Lastly the carrots had a bitter taste. My crab cake was ok, same for the mussels appetizer. Nothing special. Even our rolls were stale and tasteless. The cheesecake was actually delicious but the pecan pie was completely burnt on the edge. We expected so much more based on the other reviews.
Very disappointed. We were celebrating friends 50th anniversary . Service was incredibly bad and food not much better
Outstanding brunch. Very light crowd at opening time. Beautiful outdoor seating.
Excellent dining experience at the Gables. Even though a rainy evening the ambiance, music and service were great.
I met with friends at the Gables a few times for lunch/brunch and this last trip was very disappointing. The service was almost nonexistent and when the waitress did stop by she seemed to be bothered if we asked for anything. The food was mediocre at best. Not sure we’ll go back after this last visit.
Very lousy service! The waitress was not accommodating at all and disappeared for long stretches of time. It was an important anniversary and we were shoved into the corner. Waitress was rude and the food was awful and slathered In sauce to cover the poor quality of meats.
50th wedding anniversary
My wife and I always look for new places to go when we visit Longwood Gardens and decided to try the Gables. My wife and I were pretty disappointed for the high prices they charge. My steak and very marbled throughout with a lot of fat and chewy. My wife's chicken dish was underwhelming as well. We both liked the mushroom soup but that is about it.
Dinner at the Gables never fails! Seasonally fresh and locally sourced (the rooftop!) items. Great cocktails and wines by the glass. Patio area is incredible.
Food and cocktails was average at best (three plates of fish were all dry, a filet that was ordered looked great, short rib presentation was underwhelming) — and as others have said, the chairs are shockingly uncomfortable.
The piano needs to be tuned — and the player needs some additional practice. The dining room was practically empty, but our party of 5 was shoved into the corner closest to the piano and dining room entrance.
The sever was lovely. Desserts were very good — kudos to the pastry chef.
The best part of the evening was wandering out to the Biergarten when we left the restaurant — a pop-up in their beautiful event space on nights when there are not weddings. Lawn games, excellent ambience, great musician — but it closed at 10. Definitely a missed opportunity there — but excellent while it lasted.
We had an incredible meal and an amazing experience!
Grilled chicken on salad was tough and dry. Crab cake sandwich was fair.
Everything about this night was wonderful. Oh except for some little bugs flying around on the outside patio.
