The Fish Market - San Diego
Fresh, delicious seafood, and one of the best sunsets in the area right over the water.
Head straight to the oyster bar. Memo (sp?) is very knowledgeable and friendly. We discussed all of our selections with him. Highly recommend. -- Oyster Snob
The view was beautiful but all that went well. It took just over 30 minutes to have our order taken. The food and the beverages were mediocre. We dined her a few years ago and it was excellent. It was sad to see how far the restaurant has fallen.
Great service. Excellent food. On the waterfront with lovely sea views. Fresh fish counter also available and bar seating. Outdoors seating available on a sunny day.
We haven't been to the Fish Market in a while. In the past we have enjoyed the view along with good food. Unfortunately this experience didn't match previous visits. The service was very good and the view of the bay was as wonderful as ever. However, the lobster and salmon were disappointing. The flavor was bland and not at all exciting. Even the children's chicken teriyaki was plain looking on the plate and wasn't at all tasty. Hopefully this was a one-off visit, but since all three dishes were disappointing it appears something has changed in the kitchen.
Top service - top ambience - top quality food - will come back anytime when in town
I love black cod the last two times I have gone there was no black cod, This is my favorite place in san diego
The food and atmosphere is exellent.
Amazing food, view, and service!
The Oysters were good.
French Fries like McDonalds. The Mahi Mahi was good. But its just grilled Fish. Not more not lees.
It was very loud.
We had a great server, Kaitlyn, who was personable, friendly, accommodating and attentive. It was crazy getting into the restaurant parking lot when we visited because the lot was over crowded with Midway Museum attendance. But once we made it into the restaurant, it was pretty peaceful until the lunch crowd hit! The food and service were great. We will definitely come back but next time it will be when it's not quite as busy!

While visiting San Diego, what better place to have seafood. The Fish Market offers a huge number of choices. My husband had the small cioppino and I had scallops. Both were excellent. I have a black pepper allergy and the waiter and chef made sure there was none on my food. The view of the water and boats was so pleasant. A very special and moderately priced lunch.
Much better than the last time...thank heavens....would go back again
we have enjoyed your seafood , ambiance, enjoy sitting on the deck next to the water and being to have a reservation. we have eaten there on several occasions.
They have really fresh seafood for decent prices. My family enjoyed it and they would like me to take them there again.
Good seafood as always. Beautiful view when seating by windows.
Amazing food, great service, great view.
We really enjoyed here in our first trip to SD. That was awesome.
Great seafood! Local spot, we visit both San Diego locations often. We got the calamari and oysters Rockefeller appetizers. Calamari was amazing just as expected- no one was a fan of the unexpectedly spicy red fried peppers that were included in the dish. Meal was good, my go-to is the pacific rockfish with fishwife rice and basil tomatoes, so fresh and delicious. The rest of the table got the trout. There was a minor issue with our server at the beginning of the meal, but management attended to us appropriately and the rest of the meal was great.
Thank you Priscilla for making our dining experience exceptional!! You ate awesome & we can't wait to cone back to the Fish House soon!!!
The food and service was outstanding Michael was our server you would high five my son every time he came to the table which my son really liked
We come every year for the boat parade. We reserved this year and received a great table along the window on the inside patio. The only issue was the lights were so bright it was hard to see the boats because of the glare. If you could find a way to dim those lights next year would be great!
I ordered the seabass - it was like a 3 oz portion that was broken in half and cold. It was awful. Definitely would not order it again.
Service was very good up until we got our food, then our waiter went missing, so we just had to eat what we were given because we had tickets to a show.
This place is normally good and a go to place for us, but, not sure we'll be coming back anytime soon.
Sea bass was disappointing, everything else was great.
Enjoyable atmosphere but food delivery was extremely slow. Good table service and reasonably priced.
I went upstairs to the ‘fine dining’ and it was fabulous. The views of the harbor and sunset was wonderful, too.
My birthday dinner. Delicious food. Good service. Nice view.
My husband and I have been dining at The Fish Market restaurant for 30 years since this place opened. The food is consistently good we never hat anything that was not perfect. Our favorite is the calamari steak.
While this is chain of restaurants, it is definitely not the usual. This chain is known for their fresh seafood flown in from all over the world on a daily basis. I have been to three of the locations in the SF Bay area and the San Diego waterfront location. I have always had five star service and five star meals. My trip to the San Diego location was my third with this time being an anniversary. We went for lunch on a weekday. Had no trouble getting excellent seating. Reservations are recommended in case there is a conference in town. We told the server we were not in a hurry and she was attentive but not intrusive. Our meal was excellent. The shrimp and scallops are fresh and prepared they way they should be. The claim chowder is made from scratch every day. Even the side dishes were excellent. I had Au groton potatoes that were scratch made and wonderful. Overall we had a wonderful experience and highly recommend this and all of the Fish Market locations to everyone. A note on cost. This is a high end restaurant but I found the prices to be fair and not as much as I have paid elsewhere for lower quality venue. BTW: the San Diego location has metered parking but the lot is usually full. The San Diego venue has valet parking for lunch and diner.
The staff at Fish Market went above and beyond to accommodate our party. One of our party is in a wheelchair and we booked our reservation 6 weeks in advance to get a window seat to watch the boat parade. (He has a hard time being outside in the cold--poor circulation.) When I called a week in advance to confirm that they saw our request to be near a window, the person who answered the phone was rude. She said we couldn't reserve that table and we'd just have to sit where ever they put us. I was upset and asked her what was I supposed to do now only a week from the event? She said, "That's the way it is. I don't know what to tell you." Then, the restaurant called to confirm again a few days before. I called back and got a different person (can't remember her name but it was Asian and sounded lovely). At any rate, this person was so kind and took the time to try to come up with a solution. Even though the message was the same--they can't guarantee a window seat--her method of delivery made me feel like she cared, even though she said the same thing as her rude co-worker. That's amazing customer service! When we got there, they put us in a table that had a nice view outside, even though it wasn't right at the window. We were perfectly happy! The staff was amazing and helpful and our waitress was great. The food was so-so but who cares when the view and the company is perfect? We will definitely be back next year!
We like to eat at the "cook's" bar and have Juan (who has been there for decades) cook for us. They are amazing to watch when busy and the service and food cannot be beat!!
Great late lunch!
Food and service were great as we enjoyed the waterview from outside seating.
The Fish Market is always our restaurant of choice for lunch in San Diego. Located on the water, it offers a wonderful view of the bay, while consistently maintaining high quality seafood. Clam chowder always served piping hot, with good quality fresh fish selection. Highly recommended!
Thought we reserved upstairs which is notably better.
The Fish Market obviously specializes in fish. It is effectively two restaurants, with a more casual area downstairs on the market level, and a separate restaurant, "The Top of the Market" upstairs which is a little more upscale. I have been in and enjoyed both, but this trip refers specifically to downstairs. You enter through a small fish market where a large variety of cuts of fresh fish are on display. The dining area does not have a strong fish market smell. The atmosphere is casual. There is a deck overlooking the water where one can choose to eat. Service is casual but efficient. The menu which is fairly extensive includes a large number of different fresh cuts of fish which can be prepared simply or with complexity. The food is excellent, and it is good value for the money.
I have been to this restaurant multiple times. It’s not great food, but it’s not bad either. However, this time the Brazilian Lobster tail we ordered was not very good. It tasted old and freezer burned.
Delicious fresh seafood! Casual and comfortable. Fabulous location! Rose, our server was wonderful!
Good view for the bay. Highly recommend crab cioppino.
Couple of years ago I visited this restaurant while in San Diego and really liked it. In November I was in San Diego and went to have a dinner with my husband. I ordered a local black cod. We had to wait a while and when I finally received my food it was overcooked and much smaller portion from what I remember. I called the Manager and she said they will cook another piece since she agreed that it was overcooked. I had to wait again another 30 min to receive my order. The Manager never came back to check how was my food or even to apologize. Very rude and unprofessional. I would never go back there again. We were there on November 23rd. I also ordered calamari that were also overcooked and had nothing to do with what I had 3 years ago.
