About
Great family owned place. Delicious appetizers. The mussels were great with an amazing sauce. The potato bread that comes at the beginning of the meal. OMG! The fritters. Awesome. Everything was great. The personal touch of the owner. Priceless. Wishing Mr Solomon an amazing recovery from his upcoming surgery. Best wishes for his next journey. Thursday will be the last day at the restaurant. 😢
There were many interesting things on the menu, and my food was good, but the service was slow (took a long time just to get coffee and a napkin after we were seated) and the food came out slow, too. If the service were better, I would recommend this place for the food, which was tasty.
It is so sad that the Fireplace will be closing on August 31!!!! You will be sorely missed!
An Outstanding Run. Thanks, Jim, for 16 great years!
Quality of food is always good, but on the pricey side. They will close their door for good on Aug 30
This was a disappointing experience. It was so hot and stuffy in the restaurant, and they were out of a lot of things considering it was only 7 pm. I had been looking forward to the maple glazed chicken since that's supposed to be their signature dish, but when I tried to order it the server said, "That's not available tonight. Didn't I tell you that?" and when we said he hadn't (which was true), he argued with us. We had finished our appetizer before he took our order, and he never came to check on us throughout the meal. I've had really nice dinners here before, but this was not great.
Mehhhhhhhhhhhh. Could have had as good of a meal elsewhere for half the price. Ridiculous for what you're paying. We sat at our table for 10 minutes without being greeted and sat 15 more waiting for drinks. Not a shock that they're closing.
Sad to see it go. Thank you for all the years!! Fantastic food and ambiance and service
We are very sorry to lose The Fireplace. It has been a lovely place for almost any kind of event, from the casual to the celebratory.
It's our go to place when we're in Brookline. My wife and I really enjoy the food and the whole experience
I needed a spot for a 'thank you' much for my team and then we stayed for dessert & coffee for a brief planning meeting. The Fireplace was SO accommodating, we never felt rushed. The food was amazing and the wait staff so pleasant and helpful. I'm definitely letting friends and work contacts about this restaurant - a jewel on Beacon Street! Thank you!
On the down side, our entrees took a very long time to arrive; on the plus side, our server comped our drinks.
Fireplace has always had wonderful food. So sorry it's closing!
The Fireplace was an absolutely delightful time. We had a beautiful celebratory dinner with incredible conversation, food, service, and friendly patrons. Thank you!
It was a chance to say farewell to a great neighborhood restaurant
Sad to see they are closing end of this month! They have the best burger in town hands down! The only disappointing thing was the service. My friend and I were there for two hours from start to finish and it was pretty empty and we felt very rushed by them to leave! They kept coming up to our table and picking up our plates before we were done and we had to say: no we are not done yet!! Aghhh.
And this still happened a few times.
The servers were very good - polite and friendly- things (like getting a drink) seemed to take a long time
Chicken salad and Nicoise were very good. Our waitress, Jamie, was excellent.
Wonderful!
Went here for the lunch menu during dine out Boston. Overall wait staff were friendly and food portion sizes were ok. Wait staff forgot my drink - had to remind them twice.
A very nice a la carte brunch menu, as well as a reasonably priced prix fixe menu we several choices. Service could have been a bit more attentive, but all of the staff were very friendly. Very sad to hear the restaurant is closing at the end of August.
Roasted maple chicken!!!
Reliable great restaurant. Terrific staff - all starts with Jim - the owner- who is one of the best people ever.
Great food, amazing service, comfy ambiance. We will miss you!
We were surprised at how much we enjoyed The Fireplace as a previous visit was not as successful. This time, everything was delicious from salads to entrees. I had the mini twin lobster rolls which were really just one lobster roll cut in half. Still, it was truly delicious. The chicken was also well received as was the burger. In fact, everything we ate was tasty, cooked as requested and well served. We will definitely return.
We love this place. Not only do they have good gluten free options (the almond pancakes are to die for) but everything always tast sooo good and fills you up.
We hope this place stays in our lives a long time
We took my parents to Fireplace who were visiting from out of town and wanted something "nice and New England" for dinner. Success! We also brought our 6 month old in his stroller and the staff were extremely accommodating! Several of us asked for modifications to our order and that seemed to be no problem. Our server, Leigh, was fabulous.
The gluten free brunch menu was what prompted us to try The Fireplace. We went for 11am Sunday brunch. The overall experience was very good. Server was friendly and the speed was just right - we were hungry but not in a rush. There were lots of gluten free options and my husband reported that the eggs benedict with mushrooms and duck confit were fantastic. The kids loved the challah bread French toast and my shrimp/caper daily special omelet was yummy. Atmosphere was nice - good people watching out the large windows. I imagine the fireplace in the winter would be charming. We will definitely return!
Like the restaurant. Food good but service, while friendly, amateurish.
Service was terrible. Waitress didn't follow up. Meals weren't delivered together. She forgot about our drinks. And, she never checked back in. Very disappointing. The food was nothing special, and the fish special didn't have a lot of flavor.
My only complaint was that I had to ask for the specials which should had been offered up front by our waitress. Once I asked, she told me but neglected to mention the price which would also be standard for a fine restaurant. I was a little surprised that the fish special was $38 and I think I would have opted for something else given that price. Stating that, it was prepared well and the presentation was very nice and most importantly, it tasted very good.
Good "American " standards: burgers, chowders, etc. With local produce.
Service was fabulous as was the food and drinks. Amazing burger :>)
Cobb salad was delicious and large -- their rolls are irresistible. Terrific spot for lunch.
Food took a very long time to come out of the kitchen. Steak was delicious, but the potato crisps on the side were almost too crunchy to eat.
I ordered chicken salad for lunch and the kitchen didn't inform the server that they ran out and had to start making it again. It took 45 minutes for lunch to arrive. When I inquired I was told it was coming right up. I would have happily changed my order.
Also, OpenTable asked me why I had missed my reservation. Seems that they did not check me in under my reservation.
We eat here with some regularity. Great bar to sit and relax while sipping a delicious cocktail. Food is consistently very good. Service is excellent.
Disappointing. Food was uninteresting and lukewarm. Carrots were not cooked at all, chicken had little taste.
Very pleasant place for our young granddaughters and us. Great kids' menu. Very kind and attentive server.
The Fireplace is consistently creative in its menu and virtuoso in its execution and presentation. The bar menu is unique and well-chosen. The service is excellent--very friendly and attentive. The spacing of the tables does suffer from the current tendency in urban venues to cram people closer together to maximize throughput and revenue. If you can put up with that you will have a great meal.
