Went for Houston Restaurant Weeks, ordered the Oysters and Cheeseburger Egg rolls for appetizers, both were excellent. For entrees, we got the Chicken Fried Steak (good as usual, but those bacon mashed potatoes are to die for) and the Thai Shrimp and Grits are the best shrimp and grits in town. Unfortunately no room for dessert, will get that next time!
Another incredible meal. Excellent service, great food and friendly staff. We love this place.
Enjoyed brunch here as part of Restaurant Weeks. Our group really enjoyed all of our food. There was a nice selection of items to choose from. Our server Sergio was a delight and we’d all like to return.
I went to Federal Grill for Houston Restaurant Week. The food was amazing, the portion sizes were great, the waiter was pleasant and attentive to our needs. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants!
Excellent dinner experience. Ordered off both the HRW and regular menus. Tuna poke, short rib and grilled red fish special were all prepared well and tasted great. Service was fast, efficient and personal. Will be going back again soon!
Always a great time at Federal Grill. Food and service are great. The calamari is the best calamari in Houston.
My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience and our food was fantastic. Our waiter was kind enough to send out a cake with a sparkler on it for my birthday. Unfortunately I do not remember what kind of dessert it was, but it was amazing! All around 5 stars!
Friendly staff during a very busy time, HRW. We were there for a Saturday brunch. I would not select the cheeseburger egg roll again but the Thai shrimp and grits made up for it! Would definitely go again
Had a wonderful experience at Federal Grill Saturday. Service was attentive, food was good and drinks were tasty. Thank for providing us a wonderful opportunity to enjoy a Saturday brunch.
Federal Grill has the best Brunch menu of all Restaurant Week participants. It has breakfast but also has salads. The regular brunch menu is also wonderful!
Great job on HRW - highly recommend!
Jerry did a phenomenal job with our cocktails, of course!
A real treat! Service is on point - and the food is excellent!
and then, there's the bourbon......
Go. Eat. Drink. Enjoy!
Food was fantastic! Will definitely be back
I'm not someone who seeks out interesting new restaurants to discover, so Houston Restaurants Week is MADE for someone like me. The Federal Grill was a shot-in-the-dark experience, and wow, what a find! From the location (easy to reach) and the complementary valet parking (nice!) to the food (outstanding) and the service (top-notch), The Federal Grill blew me away.
My sister and I brought our mom and celebrated her birthday, so we started with cranberry mimosas. The waiter suggested a carafe, which was the perfect size. My sister started with the cheeseburger eggrolls (which were amazing) and my mom had the federal fried oysters (which were outstanding). I had the wedge salad, but you can get one of those anywhere. This one had yellow cherry tomatoes, but the bacon was REALLY salty.
For the second course, I had the chicken fried steak, which I cannot WAIT to have again. It was tender and flavorful and had the perfect crisp crust. The mashed potatoes were loaded with bacon, too, but I wasn't overwhelmed with salt taste. Mom had the steak salad, which she raved over. My sister had the shrimp and grits, which she proclaimed the best ever. Shrimp and grits are on menus everywhere, but the Thai flavors made this dish a standout.
The service was unobtrusively excellent. Our waiter gave us space to enjoy ourselves but was on hand immediately when we needed something. He also brought out a slice of the most amazing bourbon bread pudding with a sparkler on top. Now, I HATE bread pudding, but I couldn't stop eating this one.
I highly recommend a visit here, and I am very much looking forward to returning to The Federal Grill as soon as possible. My entire experience was as close to perfect as humanly possible, and that sure doesn't happen often. Go and enjoy this wonderful place.
The food tasted great, and there's an extensive list of whiskeys and bourbons. There were 4 of us in our party and we got seated in a booth. I found the booth uncomfortable and cramped. The back was overstuffed and didn't allow you to lean back while the seat cushion lacked support. I didn't asked to get moved to a table because the restaurant was full and I thought it would be ok. However, after a 1.5 hour dinner with our friends I was ready to get out. Next time I'll make sure we get seated at a table. BTW, when I made the reservation, it gave me the option to select a high table or a standard table and I picked a standard table. There was no mention of booths.
Went during Houston Restaurant Week and just so happened they were having a bourbon tasting event the same evening. The food was very good, but service was not as good. I think there was too much going on that evening. Would definitely recommend.
Service was slow and inattentive. Food was just ok and did not justify the high prices. Complained to server about finding nut shells in my dessert and nothing was done about it.
Went for lunch during restaurant week. The wedge salad and shrimp and grits were fantastic. Ditto for the tuna poke and tenderloin salad. Service was impeccable as always! Never disappoints
I came in for lunch to celebrate my younger brother's birthday. We ordered from the HRW menu and everything was delicious.
Three of us went on Sunday, August 11 2019 for Houston Restaurants week. Food and service were great (thank you Ryan) and two members of management staff stopped by our table to ask how we were doing.
The servers are very nice and attentive. The food is great. We went for brunch for Houston restaurant weeks and it was well worth it!
The staff was courteous, attentive and very pleasant. I enjoyed celebrating my birthday during their Sunday brunch. The food was delicious and I will definitely return!
Food was great and service was exceptional!
Been here before. Food is good....restaurant is a little loud. Service is great
Very enjoyable meal, waiter was outstanding. Food was excellent, dessert was okay. Drinks are completely overpriced. Restaurant was very nice, clean and comfortable. Overall it was a good dining experience and I would like to return.
Food was subpar and not cooked to order. Super loud and tables packed so tight you could not walk through without bumping people seated at tables...including waitstaff constantly bumping into everyone.
A group of us met at Federal for dinner before the theater. The staff took great care of us and got us out in plenty of time. Most of us ordered from the restaurant weeks menu. The only complaints were about overdone meat, but we have some people who think a cow standing in the sun is cooked enough. We appreciated getting bread pudding even though it wasn’t on the menu that night. We had a couple people who saw it on the website and were determined to eat some. A very nice dinner- we will be back.
Brunch menu was fantastic. Every food item we ordered was well made and delicious. The regular Bloody Mary does need some work. It was pretty bland and not exciting. The service was great and they were very responsive even during rush hour.
Full service seating at bar very slow. Had to ask to place food order after two innings of Astros game. Best thing though was the still warm butter cake. I thought my steak salad small for $18.00 and the steak was cold. Hubby thought the fried oyster salad very good. Bar service good, very attentive.
Very loud and we waited too long for dessert but overall great food and good waiter
The Restaurant Week’s menu is worth it to have an amazing dinner in town and get to try some new combinations. I’ve been for brunch in the last and it was delicious too!
Amazing dinner. Still talking about the dessert!
I took clients here for Houston Restaurant Weeks lunch and everything was great! Lots of options (everything was delicious), great atmosphere in the restaurant, and not too loud or quiet. We got the summer salad, tuna poke, and chicken tortilla soup as our appetizers. We got the thai shrimp, chicken federale, and Wagyu burger for our entrees. It was the perfect size meal for lunch and a deal. I highly recommend!
First time here after driving by on several occasions. Took my team for a quarterly business lunch and everyone enjoyed the food and ambience. Will recommend to others.
Service in the bar area (tall top tables) is attentive and the food & cocktails are always spot on. it is one of our go-to spots for Happy Hour and Brunch
Great restaurant week meal
The Federal was a wonderful experience. The food was out of this world delicious. I ordered the Prime Ribeye for Restaurant week and my was it perfect. Cooked exactly between Medium Rare and Medium, a delicate crusting on the outside with an incredible taste inside. Then we had Fried Oysters which were steaming hot, crunchy on the outside but succulent and soft on the inside. Everything was perfect and our waiter definitely had our "number" because he got all of our orders perfect without writing a thing down, kept our drinks full, cleared our plates in a timely but non obtrusive way, like a ninja! Seriously though it is one of the best places I have been to for a Ribeye. The only downside was the parking. It is beautiful on the inside but outside space is very limited. All in all, I give it a 10 out of 10.
We went to Federal Grill for lunch during Houston Restaurant Weeks. There were many options to choose from, but we didn’t find any that we thought to be outstanding. The oyster appetizer was a little mushy, not crispy, and the Thai shrimp and grits, although tasty were lukewarm at best. The service was very good, the waitstaff very attentive.
Restaurant was understaffed during Sunday Brunch! Just a hamburger took nearly 2 hours to be served! Not the greatest of experiences.
We been waiting for at least 30 minutes for our appetizer and another 10-15 minutes for our entrees. The manager/ owner did come and apologize says they will pay for one of the appetizers but
The service is amazing. Everything on the menu is wonderful. Highly recommend the crab cake and cheeseburger egg rolls as appetizer. You can’t go wrong with any entree. Also have a fun brunch crowd.
