Set in the heart of downtown, across from the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, the “new” Essex will continue to offer the progressive, modern, approachable cuisine that has made it a top restaurant in the region. Whether it’s a pre-theater dinner, a casual gathering with friends, or a tasting menu for a special evening, guests can gather at The Essex to create memories with family and friends while enjoying excellent cuisine.

The Essex menu showcases modern American cuisine that draws inspiration from the land, sea and deep heritage of the Connecticut River Valley, using the freshest locally sourced products available from farm and sea. All will inspire an ever-changing menu of progressive interpretations of timeless dishes.

    This restaurant never disappoints. From drinks, appetizers, dinner and let's not forget dessert it has never been a disappointment.

    One of the top restaurants in CT and for good reason. Superb service is noticeable immediately, and the small dining room is a highly efficient machine. Food arrives quickly, it tastes fantastic and the menu is creative and delivers where it counts. Yes the prices are high, but for the first time since moving to America, I do not care. This was my second time visiting the essex, and I know there will be many more.

    We had such an incredible food experience! We were asked if we wanted to sit at the chef’s table upon arriving. We were able to watch the chef cook while enjoying a wonderful meal. The food, service and atmosphere was more than we could have asked for. The strawberry martini, oysters and homemade bread was so delicious. My husband had the pork shoulder and raved about it all night. I had the halibut and loved how flavorful it was. They do little extras too but I don’t want to spoil it if you’ve never been! Wonderful food experience with an incredible staff! Thank you for the experience!
