What Insiders Are Saying
The Duck and Rice pairs cold pints of Pilsener Urquell with brilliant Cantonese dim sum. Hit it up for a weeknight dinner or an afternoon snack.
When we turned up the restaurant can not find our reservation. They claim that they stopped using opentable six months ago.
Though it wasn’t that busy so they found a table for us. The food was good. So was some of the waiters.
It could’ve been better if our reservation actually meant something!
A modern take on many Chinese classics and fairly well done. Not the best for value but at least the food was good.
Have the crispy fried duck! It is amazing.
They were able to accommodate a very late change of plan which was much appreciated. The pre drinks of gin cocktails and the special lager were great. Superb menu choice and excellent meal. Service excellent. Having an open window table on the hottest day of the year was both welcome and an experience. Would certainly recommend and will visit again.
Quite noisy! And the sofa next to the stairs was shaking at every step. Nice service but we have had a lot better Chinese food experience at other restaurants.
The duck served was succulent and tender. It's probably the best I've tasted to date.
All round great experience. The food was outstanding, particularly the crispy duck, and the service was excellent.
I booked a table online for 2 given that it was my girlfriend's birthday.
I called at 3,40pm (booking at 4pm) to let them know I'd be late 10 minutes due to traffic and, although in a polite way, I was advised that could not guarantee the table as the kitchen closes at 4,30pm (well, I'd arrive 20 mins earlier. If they need time to clean maybe they shouldn't allow booking at 4 pm).
On arrival, the gentleman on the reception was pretty neutral.
Our waitress was nice (as opposite to rude) and the food arrived promptly but as soon as everything arrived and we finish eating I was presented with the bill. (What if I would like another beer? Desert anyone? Maybe downstairs at the bar?).
Also, they knew it was our first time there and a birthday, even the most basic restaurants offer a little something or at least they wish happy birthday.
It was not bad, the food was good but I would not consider returning as it seems a bit overpriced. Or in other words, expect a cool and central place but normal service and good but not exceptional food.
Brilliant restaurant with exceptional food and atmosphere.
We went to the Duck and Rice as it was conveniently located close to the West End theatres so went pre-show. The staff were mindful of this and we managed to get out of the restaurant right on time, although we'd have loved to stay longer and enjoy the atmosphere in the bar! The restaurant section is located upstairs which means it is more quiet for conversation, and we left feeling very satisfied with what we'd eaten and drunk. Would love to go again and try more dishes.
We were seated upstairs at a very nice table by the window corner, quite cozy.
Food was good overall but slightly erratic: so while gai lan and dim sum were delicious, crisp duck was rather dry and came with thicker than expected pancakes.
Good service but a little slow, then again we were there on a busy late friday night.
Really lovely restraurant for a post theatre dinner. Great to find a place that isn't rushing you out despite the late night booking! Serbia was great and were even happy to accommodate food requests. Great food (especially the king pao) and would definitely recommend!
Dim Sum and the duck were superb. There are other delicious asian cuisine alternatives but the peking duck is the best. Very good cocktails as well. A bit noisy for my taste but it may be I am getting old. Apart from that loved it.
Food and drink was really good. Service was great but we had a long wait in between our dishes. Would still recommend to anyone else and go back!
I highly recommend this restaurant! My husband and I went to this restaurant while on our honeymoon in London and had the BEST meal of the trip. The food is amazing, the ambiance is great, and the service was excellent. We are so happy that a friend suggested this restaurant and will definitely go back on our next trip to London.
Really great food of the quality we've come to expect from an Alan Yau restaurant. Best thing of all is it seems to be empty at lunchtime on weekdays, which is a wonderful find as it's not noisy at all - perfect for a business lunch. I shall be going back.
Loved the food and the ambience, will deffo be coming back.
The best Singapore noodles we've had ever. Great menu, really tasty food, sticky pork Bao's were really good too. Nice friendly staff and very accomodating of our 5 year old, who loved it so much she wants us to take her back for her birthday next month!! The home brewed pilsner was very very nice also ;-)
My favourite place to be any evening of the week - strongly recommend!
Lunch with a friend.
Loads of great things on the menu so we both struggled to make a decision. The gin cocktail I ordered (with a cheery in it) was delicious.
Wonderful meal affordable prices, good service but wine a little expensive.
It's an overpriced Chinese restaurant with a very nice atmosphere. I would go there for the setting, not for the food. Food is OK, but no different from what you get in Chinatown. The crockery is different, the taste is the same, but the price is much higher
Great place - nice bar area - great food - friendly staff and service - will defo be returning !!!
Pre theatre dinner. Told our waiter up front - he made sure our service was prompt. Ambience was Good. Food was Good. Service was very Good, thank you Nicholas. Cocktails Good. Will go again.
Food was bland, bland, bland - you'd be better off at a cheap local takeaway. kung Po chicken lacked any spice, pak choi with garlic had hardly any garlic - all very disappointing
Had previously had good experience (lunchtime) here, but in the evening the service was a lot poorer. Our finished plates were left on our table for ages - and then we were offered desserts/tea/coffee etc. We ordered some tea, and then were asked to leave the table before we'd finished it as the table had been rebooked. Perhaps they could have cleared the (clearly finished) plates 30 minutes earlier....
Food was really good and the place is nice and pretty, we found hair in our food though and they didn't say sorry or anything just took the plate away :(
Good place for semi-formal business lunch meeting. Nice decor and good food.
The Duck and Rice was very easy to book, staff very friendly and knowledgeable regarding the menu. Food came quickly once ordered and was very good. No complaints at all and would recommend to anyone.
Overall good food. The pancakes for the duck were not the best i've had and the quantity of them, as well as the quantity of spring onions and cucumber is not enough for a 1/2 portion of duck. Thankfully we had refills brought for us to resolve this. Overall worth it. Little bit more expensive than your average chinese and comparable quality food really.
Really delicious food, one of my favourite restaurants ever...
This is a gorgeous dining room, with amazing, delicious and authentic food. Thank you so much Duck and Rice!
One of the better roasr ducks ive eaten in London! Good ales too!
Service was a little slow but the quality of the food more than made up for it. The dim sum is delicious!
First time here, sat in the window watched the Chinese Dog Dance
Service was excellent, friendly staff, wonderfull food
Decor was 1930's Shanghai Art Deco decadence
I loved it, will be back
Disappointing - a lot of show, but not more than that. Average and overpriced main course and wine (which was too warm). Dim Sum very good, though. Staff was helpful, but not very organized.
Delish Asian food with great service and atmosphere to match. And a little on the exy side as a result.
Ambiance was perfect. We had a table for two by the fire. Food was fantastic. The Honey Beer was delicious. 5*
Very efficient staff, super friendly, attentive, professional.
Food was awesome. A touch too much salt on the spring onions in the squid but still really good food and reasonably priced.
