The Cowford Chophouse
I took my girlfriend here for her birthday and the whole experience was perfect. I had to steer her away from worrying about prices and just try the amazing steaks. I had the tomahawk steak, dry aged 28 days and she had the wagyu strip steak and both of us were amazed. Ambiance was great, service was perfect, and the night was memorable. Highly recommend this place
With service and food preparation like this it was worth every penny. The attention to detail on everything from the food, ambience ( amazing renovation of the building) and knowledgeable staff we’ll be returning shorty. Jacksonville should be proud to house such an thoughtful institution.
We love this steakhouse. We been here a number of times and the service and food have been second to none. Cowford chop is the best in Jax.
It was wonderful! Food was great!
Food was amazing and all the staff made my boyfriend feel very special on his birthday
Absolutely loved this restaurant and plan on going back soon for happy hour. Our dinner was fantastic and after, we walked up to the patio to look at the gorgeous views of downtown.
We were there to celebrate our Anniversary and it was wonderful the service and attention was impeccable. I just felt due to nature of our dining that sitting in the bar area was a little not so intimate or romantic I don’t know maybe it’s just me but overall I would dine there again
A-5 Wagyu and lobster tail. That is all
We were very disappointed in our steaks. We had high expectations upon ordering a ribeye and a filet. Both steaks were just average. They were not all that flavorful. You expect that when you pay such a high price for a steak that you're going to receive something wonderful. I would also give the French Onion soup, the whipped potatoes, and the Ratatouille an average rating. The bright spot in the whole meal was the cheesecake.
In my opinion, this place is overrated. Ordered the $130 28-Day Dry-Aged Tomahawk and it was actually chewy and undercooked (ordered it medium rare but showed up rare, at best). My wife's risotto was good and so were the asparagus. However, with a name like 'Cowford', you'll think they would know how to master beef.
A gorgeous restaurant with a beautiful history and a commitment to the preservation of Jacksonville's history. The attention to detail was amazing, the food was incredibly delicious, and the service was unmatched. I was very impressed that the wait staff knew so much about the restaurant's restoration and filled us in on so many cool details. Very impressed and so glad we have Cowford!
service was off.our server while friendly and trying to do a good job seemed inexperienced with your menu and it being a Sunday evening you looked understaffed in general. We have dined with you fairly often and always enjoyed it things were a little off on Sunday. Mike Mass MD
It was a good experience but overall not worth the price.
Best steak I've had in a long time. Cooked to perfection and extremely flavorful. Highly recommend.
Amazing meal with my family. It was by far the best steak dinner we have ever had. Dessert was also fantastic and a visit to the roof top bar ended a perfect night.
Always fantastic food and service!
Overpriced. The food was very good, but not worth the price. You also have to pay separately for a side with your entree.
Really enjoyed our first time visit . We appreciated they way all hands on deck bring all the food out on one trip. Really felt special, thank you !!
The food is amazing and the service is just as wonderful. It’s an amazing experience for every occasion.
Absolutely amazing as always!
Food was good but not for the price. The ambiance was really nice and the restaurant was quiet which was a huge plus.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at the Cowford Chophouse. My husband had the Waygu steak and said it was the best thing he’d ever eaten. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The drinks were superb, and the complimentary anniversary dessert was delightful.
I would only recommend the roof top experience with a cocktail. The food was not great for the price
50th wedding anniversary! It was great. Food was very good. I’ll be back.
So glad to see this place has improved so much! When it first opened the service was awful, the kitchen was slow and the food was average. It was heart-breaking to see this beautiful concept, fall flat.
We had an excellent experience there last night. Service was fantastic and the food was great! Our server, Donnie, was very good. He wasn’t pushy but was prompt and all of our food came out at the same time for every course and in good time. My steak was ordered for medium well plus and came out exactly that. The ratatouille was delicious too.
The only reason I wouldn’t give this place 5 stars is because of the pricing. We eat at Matthew’s and Ruth’s Chris frequently and this place is much more expensive than both. I don’t feel like it is worth the money...not that the food wasn’t great, but it wasn’t anything extraordinary that could justify the very high pricing; this is the most expensive restaurant in Jacksonville.
Overall, this place was great and I’m sure we will go back at some point, but it won’t be in our regular rotation of restaurants because it’s very over-priced. Really glad to see they have made such awesome strides and I hope this place can stay open in Jax. Make sure to checkout the roof-top bar!
It gets better and better! We enjoy taking guest there for a special treat. Keep it up!
Website dress code - no denim. Many people in jeans, one in a t-shirt. For a special occasion there are many better choices in Jacksonville. The atmosphere is lacking. We were sat at a table on the first floor with a view of the bar and people smoking outside. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary so my husband asked to moved upstairs which was quieter, but there is still no view/atmosphere. It would be better as a casual restaurant/bar, lower prices.
We came here on Christmas Eve this past year and everything was phenomenal. When it came time for me to pick where I wanted to have my birthday dinner it was no question. But the food and drink qualities have diminished a lot since December. There was almost no crust or flavor on the steaks (which was one of the best things about Cowford the last time we were here). When we ordered chocolate martinis, the glasses were barely half full. The service and wait staff were amazing as always, but the quality of the food did not outweigh the high costs like it has in the past.
The food tasted great and we had a wonderful waitress. However, the bartender was very slow and the staff who seated our party were less than friendly.
Server was less than attentive, did not offer to share about the menu or specials. My steak was good and cooked well. However, Food took above average time to be served. The baked potato was pretty sad and over cooked. Getting a drink before our reservation upstairs, took the bartender 10 minutes to acknowledge us. Took another 10 minutes just to make one cocktail. Considering it was our wedding anniversary and has this experience..Not sure if we will dine here again.
Service was excellent. Ambiance is neat. Meals are quite good, but overpriced.
This restaurant was beautiful. The food was delicious and service was beyond extraordinary
Thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Cowford House. We were celebrating the twins’ birthday, and they were both pleasantly pleased.
Excellent food and Service, location is great. The Dinning area on the second floor was very comfortable and relaxed dinning. Makes it a great evening.
Pricey; however, the awesome atmosphere, excellent service, and "the best food we've ever eaten" make this a restaurant worthy of a special occasion. Our waiter heard us talking about how good lemonade sounded, so he offered to have the bar make non alcholic lemonade. If course, we accepted the delicious drink. Then, the waiter of the next table overhead one of our party say she wants her boyfriend to propose to her here. He told us how it could be set up. Then he offered to call her boyfriend with the caveat that they needed to be over 25 years old. Talk about going the extra mile!
We were celebrating a special occasion and were recommended to Cowfords by a friend. All I can say is WOW and divine! We were greeted with a hand written notecard thanking us for dining with them for our special occasion as listed on our reservation. Their cocktail list is varied and interesting. The cocktails looked as wonderful as they tasted. Cowford “Rocks” oysters with melted spicy pimento cheese was a great start and the fired soft egg yolks in the Farmhouse salad was a nice variation on a classic salad. Cobia and bone-In ribeye skewered with a tower of fried oysters were both impressive and scrumptious! Their wine selection is lovely and definitely priced to sell which was nice to see. They also have a nice wine by the glass selection as well. All of this said, the service was a real star at Cowfords! Every single staff member was pleasant, wore a huge smile and were Uber professional! All very knowledgeable and well spoken. We watched a party of 15 next to us all be hand served simultaneously EVERY course flawlessly. Not an easy execution to pull off. Suffice it to say my husband and I were blown away and will look forward to visiting again when we’re in Jax. Thank you for such a special dinner and helping us form a great memory for years to come!!
We can’t wait to come back. The food was amazing, the staff were delightful, and the ambiance was so mesmerizing.
Presentation was on point, our server was perfect, and the food was great. My wife and I enjoyed our 6 year wedding anniversary. Thanks!!!
Steak wasn’t hot, barely warm. Service was great but food not good.
I cannot remember the last time I had such a perfect dining experience. We arrived early and enjoyed a cocktail at the rooftop bar where the bartender crafted an excellent Old Fashioned. The hostess texted us when our table was ready and were guided to our table on the second floor next to a window where we could enjoy the sunset. Our server Jim was superb - a true professional! We ordered everything at one time but he made sure we were not rushed. Our entrees were delivered by a cadre of servers who presented everyone's meal simultaneously. The food was prepared perfectly. I cannot wait to go back!
