In 2004, The Coup opened its doors to Calgary and surrounding areas with the desire to provide a modern vegetarian restaurant to the community. Since then we have been dedicated to delivering a vibrant atmosphere and creative vegetarian fare. Our products have been selected based on a deep desire to support local, make everything from scratch, and celebrate the community we are in.

Our bar program has a strong cocktail focus, with great partners who have aligned ethical and ecologically sustainable practices. We focus on local brewers and distillers, and strive to curate a cocktail menu that focuses on ingredients that are local, flavourful, and unique. We strongly believe that the experience of dining, or enjoying cocktails isn’t only for those who drink alcohol. As such, all of our cocktails are available in a non-alcoholic format, as well as a large compliment of other zero-proof offerings.

Had an excellent afternoon meal for my wife's birthday. The food was great from start to finish and the cocktails were fun. The Drunken Noodles were flavorful and interesting. Our server George welcomed us with a drink, had good food suggestions, entertained our baby and really topped off the experience. Highly recommend, even if you're not a vegetarian.

A bit disappointed to be honest. We've travelled through Calgary several times from Edmonton and are vegan/vegetarian. We have never been to The Coup and were excited to try a new place and left underwhelmed. The server was wonderful and so personable, but she noted upon arrival that they were extremely low staff that day and that wait times would be long for drinks/food. We reassured her we were ok with that and would offer grace. She did her absolute best. The decor was ok, but a bit of a contrast between the sign and inside decor. There was about 6 other tables filled, and the server was doing her best to keep up. We ordered the mushrooms and hummus for a starter and it was the best dish of all, though would have loved a bit more naan to use to dip as it was a generous portion. Hubby ordered the Messy Jessy and I ordered the breakfast burrito. We both took a bite or two and looked at each other with the same thoughts. The Messy Jessy is made with very soft tofu and it was like eating mush and salad, there seemed to be no spice or flavouring of any sort on the potatoes and no sauce. Everything was bland. The same with my burrito. The potatoes I ordered as a side and in the burrito were bland though well cooked, no spice at all and no ketchup on the table and with the server running around so hectically, we didn't even want to ask. The burrito had no sauce at all and all I could taste was bland potatoes, cheese and the doughy wrap. We ate about half our plates and asked for the bill. The server did ask if we wanted take out containers and we declined, and was glad to hear they do compost leftovers. Overall, we're glad we tried The Coup and would possibly would give them another chance. I want to give a huge shoutout to the server and kitchen staff that were obviously dealing with a short staff issue that impacted the food quality/experience, but staff were respectful with each other and tried their best, so maybe just a bad day.

I've been coming here for years. It's my favourite restaurant in Calgary. The menu selection and drink selection is incredible. Portions are huge. Food is amazing as was the service. Great ambiance.

Awesome spot for a quiet weekday lunch. We had the restaurant to ourselves and the service with George was excellent. The gyoza and spicy tofu rice bowl were some of the highlights but everything was delicious and well-portioned. I’ll definitely be dining here again!

The food was good but the service was quite slow for a nearly empty restaurant. My biggest issue was that a group gratuity was added to our individual bills but covered up with a sharpie and then an additional tip was requested. I’m fine with a gratuity being added to a large group but be transparent about it. Covering it up on every bill was sneaky and then another tip was requested when paying. Due to this sneakiness I will not be back and will warn anyone who asks about dining there. Bad business!!
