Amazing meal!!! Fabulous service!!! Will absolutely return
My husband and I celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary there and it was a dining experience. I had the smoked duck, it was melt in your mouth tender. Our servers, Jose' and DJ were a class act. Jose' suggested we try the spiced cauliflower for an appetizer and for my husband's entree he suggested the Barbecue shrimp and grouper, he was on point with every suggestion. Even the water was good and I NEVER drink restaurant water. We plan to return. Kudos to the chief and staff. Keep up the good work guys!
Outstanding food and service. So happy to see this level of quality in San Antonio.
BBQ shrimp was very good, a little more spicy than usual. Restaurant did a good job with COVID restrictions
Jose is awesome! We really enjoyed our dinner and our experience. Cookhouse is one of our favorite restaurants in SA. We support local and we always look forward to our next visit.
The dining was very good. My problem was trying to include 2 more people and wasn’t able to talk to a human or even someone calling back re: change. I used open table and added the 2 other people but it was never changed. Very frustrating!
Great food. Eclectic crowd. Friday and Saturday jazz trio is fun, but loud. Don't expect lots of conversation without difficulty talking over the music. Our waiter was very accommodating and knowledgeable, but a little slow on the follow up and and check. The grilled ousters are to die for. The food was all perfect. Outstanding. Parking is tricky since it is a "weird" residential neighborhood. We went early so it wasn't a problem.
The service and ambiance was really great but the food was overpriced for the amount, specially the ravioli and duck.
Wonderful waitress. Very good food. Louder than I expected but not too distracting.
As usual the service was spot on and the food delicious. We always enjoy taking friends to the Cookhouse. We had the blackened catfish and the barbecued shrimp. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted even better. Dessert consisted of blueberry bread pudding that was one of the beat I’ve tasted and beignets. Great night.
Pieter has always had the best food, best service ever!
Food did not get 4 stars because at least 3 of 6 entrees were served cold. Server was informed but did not offer any remedies
Perfection! Don’t miss the bbq shrimp. :)
As always, in my opinion the best restaurant in town!
I Always order the same thing ... barbecue shrimp..., and there is a 20% chance that after pre-meal drinks I’m going to get that damm bbq sauce on me trying to de-head the shrimp with a knife and fork ...
totally worth it , especially with a bold red wine ..
I’ll be back ..
Overall the ambiance was very nice and hip. The food was good but for the value it was a overpriced. The dessert was the best part with the Beignets and Fig Tart. The other food Scallop Toast and Boudin Balls were forgettable. My wife and I shared in the Wagyu steak which was good. Service was friendly and prompt. Manager came to speak to us to ask how our food was.
Food & Service are Super Fly. Best of Fusion Cajun!
Waiter was exceptional and very knowledgeable. Food was outstanding, barbecue shrimp, special seafood dip and beignets were phenomenal. Highly recommend!!
Food was AMAZING, our waiter was AWESOME!! My only complaint was the male host who was so rude to my family when we asked for a table far away from the door because I had my elderly mom with me and it was really cold outside and she would have been cold the whole time had we been seated in front of the door. The host could not have been more rude and left us standing there for 5 minutes while he seated other families behind us. A very sweet hostess eventually asked us why we hadn’t been seated and she took care of us. He needs to go work at Taco Cabana and not a nice restaurant like Cookhouse.
It was my boyfriend’s birthday and we came here to celebrate. Everything was amazing. The chargrilled oysters, bbq shrimp, and bycatch fish were the stars of the evening, along with some great bottles of wine. Thank you Cookhouse for the memorable night.
Delicious, but overpriced.
The menu of 18 months ago was more varied and more cajun which was good
The change in the menu was not necessary.
Great Cajun food, outdoor patio provided quieter ambience
Food was outstanding. Service very good. Noise level unbearable. Will not return.
We had reservations at 5 and arrived promptly at that time. Restaurant filled up real fast. Service was mostly real good except there were a couple of times we had to wait for a bit to get our drink glasses refilled.
When I made reservations I mentioned we were celebrating a birthday and they didn’t even acknowledge it which was a bummer.
Otherwise, highly recommend it for Cajun food.
One of my favorite restaurants in San Antonio. Great food, great service. Always a great meal.
Ambiance was on point.
My first visit certainly wont be my last
It was nice enough but the good wasn't very flavorful, even the gumbo didn't taste like gumbo. The catfish was one filet with no vegetables or anything accompanying it. Certainly not worth the price charged.
One of my "go to" restaurants in SA. Limited menu but always unique and good. We had a wonderful waiter who made some excellent suggestions. You could tell he had passion for what they serve. Parking is horrible, but otherwise it's a great experience!
Great service and menu. The warm crab salad should be a dish of its own for how delicious it was! Definitely recommend.
Nice cozy place for dinner. Food was great and amazing service. Definitely suggest trying the gumbo and red beans and rice of you like something with a little Cajun kick.
The service and food were outstanding. Great date night spot. Perfect to do Restaurant Weeks.
We decided to check out The Cookhouse as part of Culinaria. We had a reservation, and were seated in the center of the dining area. The noise at times made it hard to have a conversation. It took a while to be greeted by a server, and slow service continued throughout the meal. We started with boudin balls, which were excellent. We then ordered from the Culinaria fixed menu. The gumbo was very good, well flavored, and a nicely sized portion. Our entrees were disappointing. The blackened catfish was one small filet, nicely cooked but swimming in sauce. The pork cutlets were nicely breaded, quite thin, and a bit dry. As opposed to the fish, the creole sauce barely peeked out from under the meat, and was much more of a tomato-based reduction than a true creole sauce. No true sides/vegetables were included. One of our group ordered a dinner salad, which was also a disappointment. It was basic, mostly greens, with a little bit of walnut. We all ended with the blueberry bread pudding, which was nice. For drinks, a small but varied selection of wines and beers are available, as well as several wine-based mixed drinks. Having recently been to NOLA, we were hopeful this restaurant would bring back fond memories of good Cajun food. Unfortunately, it did not.
Visited during Restaurant Week. Was our first visit. Felt comfortable and relaxed- will definitely return to experience more dishes and happy hour. All the dishes were excellent. Loved the beautiful presentation of the catfish and the chicken and waffles. Steve was a great guide for the dishes and the entire staff was very friendly and kept our glasses filled. So glad we were able to enjoy this restaurant.
We enjoyed the Cookhouse and will go again. Our waiter, Jose, was outstanding.....friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was really good and reasonably priced. We had the Blackened Catfish and Chicken & Waffles. We would order them again or.........maybe try something new. The atmosphere is casual and comfortable, but it's a little noisy when the restaurant is full.
a great dining experience with some traditional New Orleans style cuisine. Service was spot on and prompt refills and removals.
The food at The Cookhouse was quite good and I'd like to recommend it but there were a few things that disappointed. First, our server nearly ruined our meal. He didn't seem to want to wait on us. He was sweaty, seemed rushed, threw our plates on the table and was put off by us asking questions. And then the noise was too much. It's a small space and there was a rather large party of maybe 30 people. They took over the space and make quite a ruckus that rivaled the already loud jazz band. It made it impossible to talk over dinner. I liked the food but I was ready to get out of there and back to some peace and quiet.
Great food and service. Very simple and personal. The staff was very attentive. Everything we ordered was delicious especially the desserts.
Love that I can get great cajun food in San Antonio. Never had a bad experience or a bad meal.
This place is a jewel in the crown for the San Antonio restaurant scene. Chef Sypesteyn and his crew are doing a fantastic job. The remodel really brings a nice clean and relaxing vibe to the space, and as always the food is top notch. We found the dishes to be creative and exciting. We loved the sustainable fish "bycatch" option, and the flavors are amazing. Don't miss the bread pudding on the menu!
