The service and Food were excellent. A little Smokey, it’s an open kitchen. Left smelling like a beignet, LOL. Yummm!
The food is excellent and the place is nice but a bit too noisy. Service was pretty good.
Jake, our waiter, was extremely attentive. There’s a jazz band on Friday’s that completely added to the ambiance. The food was delicious!!
Loved the jazz music!!
Wonderful food and great service!! I have been to the cookhouse and I always have a great dining experience! The red beans and rice is awesome and the beignets are to die for!
Amazing as always! Chargrilled oysters, Boudin Balls, BBQ Shrimp, Beignets. All were amazing and flavorful. We always enjoy our dining experience at The Cookhouse.
Birthday celebration. Cook house never disappoints! Great food. Good people. Wonderful evening!
My first time and I loved everything. Wish it was a little quieter.
As always, this last visit to Cookhouse was a great experience. You can tell the owner puts a lot of love into this place to create a comfortable and authentic experience. The green salad and melon salad were both bursting with flavor, the chargrilled oysters are as good as any you will find in New Orleans. My BBQ shrimp was awesome, but that sauce seriously needed more bread to sop up all those flavors. The pork chop, while tasty, was a bit on the small side, so may need to take that into consideration if you’re really hungry. My only complaint is that while our server was friendly, there was someone who brought bread, someone else who refilled drinks, someone else who dropped off food and apps, etc. There was often miscommunication and at times it took too long to wait for refills, we waited forever on bread bc the person our server asked to bring it to us forget. I prefer an experience where the waiter is earning the tip and responsible for the whole meal, not just an order taker and check bringer.
Had the Grulled Oysters...watermelon/tomato/feta salad....shrimp creole....all fun and interesting dishes! my lady friend had the Bycatch fish dujour blackened amberjack ....the food was fabulous! Service was excellent and we were entertained by Jim Cullum and his Dixieland combo! Amazing evening!
Dinner was delicious and the service was excellent.
Great food. Small environment great for having amazing food and drinks with friends. Will def be returning.
This was our first experience at The Cookhouse and we are happy to recommend it to our friends. We visited on the occasion of our anniversary and were treated like royalty! The food, the staff and the experience just amazingly memorable. Thank you, Chef for making our visit so special!
All of the food was great - really enjoyed the charbroiled oysters and the octopus and raviolis
Came for Jim Cullen, who was simply excellent. Food was very good, especially the duck breast. Service was just ok.
Pieter is the best, most creative chef in San Antonio, maybe the world!
Having lived in East Texas, my husband and I have missed eating authentic Cajun food since moving to San Antonio. I was thrilled to find out about the Cookhouse, and surprised my husband for his birthday. It was a bit warm inside but the ambiance was nice. The menu was enticing. We eagerly ordered zucchini hushpuppies ( I believe ). They were very dark brown (i.e. burned) and so salty we literally could not swallow them. No worries..the gumbo was actually what we were ecstatic to try anyway! As soon as the bowls were placed on the table, the smell of bbq smoke filled the air.
There was no hint of traditional gumbo flavor to be found. My heart sank into my chest. What a horrible let down. My jambalaya entree was mediocre, however my husband's BBQ shrimp was delightful! The broth was absolutely delicious! Sadly, as much as we both enjoyed his entree, we will continue our search for authentic cajun food elsewhere.
We enjoyed going to the Cookhouse after having many people tell us it was a great place to eat. We were not disappointed, the food and service were outstanding and we recommend a visit to all. Couple of flies flying around and the bathrooms a bit dated, but otherwise the ambiance was great.
I have visited this establishment 8 or 9 times while on business in San Antonio, have yet to have a meal that I would not readily order again! It was a little warm inside today, but the temperature reached a steamy 97 degrees, so this may have been a contributor to this issue. Ordered 2 appetizers, bouldin (the presentation and taste were spot on and we both had the smoked suck breast, outstanding and very complimentary. This chef really keeps service at the top of the menu!
Was looking forward to eating here, but did not live up to my expectations. Disappointed.
Typical Friday evening here with the trio playing jazz in a lively atmosphere. Many of main courses are too spicy for us so we usually get the duck, which is always delicious. Don’t miss the deviled eggs.
We always enjoy the cookhouse. It did not disappoint us.
The Cookhouse never disappoints! We shared three appetizers, two different salads, and the blackened catfish. Yes, we ate A LOT! The only thing we didn't have was dessert because by then we were way too full. So many different flavors and textures in this experience. All dishes were pleasing to the eye and every single thing we had was delicious!
Excellent service and food was amazing
Top5 Restaurants in San Antonio. Amazing dishes and waiters
Food is wonderful. Wait staff started super friendly and helpful, then oddly forgot about us entirely. Thus, we were not able to order wine with dinner and had to sit still for a long time before we could order desert.
Chef Matt and our server Jake are always very welcoming and go out of there way to accommodate us. The whole team is awesome. Can’t wait to go back.
We went here to celebrate a family occasion. My daughter had the alligator ettouffe and said it was wonderful. My husband had the jambalaya and was very pleased as well. My daughter and I had hurricanes. They were really good - not a mix and not too sweet. Very different from what you might expect. The service was attentive but not hovering. My daughter got the blueberry bread pudding to take home. Lemon curd, whipped cream, crunchy crumbles and blueberry compote really took bread pudding to a higher level. Overall a delightful and memorable evening. Parking is a potential problem as there is no lot - you have to park on the neighborhood streets.
The AC was not working inside and sweat was dripping off the noses of us and guests. The food took an whole hour to come out and was still small in fish portion size. There was also no live music for greater ambiance.
Another great dinner at Cookhouse. I missed the jazz trio that was provided at our last visit. Authentic Creole. Try the BBQ Shrimp and the blackened catfish both excellent. Huge plus for me is the corkage policy so I can share my wines with friends including the Fun and gracious Ruben our waiter.
Great food and service. Food didn't take long to come out either. I'd love to come back
Fantastic food. Tables and chairs could have been a little nicer to match the quality of the food and service. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a unique Creole taste.
We had relatives from out it town who are very picky about their dining experience. The Cook House delivered on both food and service! We were very pleased with the appetizers and entrees, especially the gumbo. We will tell all our friends about this amazing restaurant.
No. We wont go back. Food was not that great for the price. I had dry over cooked fished and my husband had duck and there wasn’t much of it. We decided to try something funky and offbeat and were disappointed.
I loved the octupus. The band on Friday nights is wonderful.
Service was great. Food was very rich.. sSmall portions.
We celebrated our anniversary on our most recent visit. This is our favorite restaurant in San Antonio. Delicioso!
Food great. Service great. Parking ehh...
Difinately be back.
