Too noisy to hear properly. That’s primarily why didn’t get 5 stars.

We found The Coal Shed online as was looking for somewhere for our son's birthday meal.

It did not disappoint! Great service, excellent food - we had the Porthouse Steak (awesome) and the fish platter and again excellent.

Wine menu very good.

Can't wait to return!!

The food and service were amazing and loved every minute. The only negative was the side dishes a bit small and therefore had to order more thus putting the price up. Steak was cooked to perfection and could not fault it.

Charming staff, very good steak and located a few moments from the river near Tower Bridge. Relaxed at lunch and seems ideal for pre-theatre!

Great restaurant. Booked the pre-theatre menu but arrived late because of trains but they still accommodated us. The food was delicious and the service perfect - attentive but not in your face. Would highly recommend.

Fantastic selection - wasn't so keen on the whipped beef fat dripping with the bread, but throughly enjoyed the smoked sea salt butter. I had a Goat Taco which I would highly recommend - full of flavour. their Pinot Grigio was also very nice. Will be back for sure.

I took my wife to lunch at The Coal Shed, I’d noticed it on the Open Table site while looking at something else, and it looked an attractive place.
The Maître d’ greeted us warmly, and a waitress showed us to a table, offering us a choice of tables.
She gave us menus and a wine list, and asked if we’d like water, my wife asked for tap water, and a clean bottle appeared.
My wife went for the burger, with fries, and a side of mac ‘n’ cheese, I opted for the cod and mussels, with the mac ‘n’ cheese too, and asked for a bottle of Chenin Blanc.
The wine arrived within two minutes, and we sipped it while waiting not long at all for our mains.
The meals were presented well, and tasted great, my wife enthused about her burger, we finished off with a double espresso each.
The service was exceptional in our opinion, my wife remarked that it was a vast improvement on The Ivy, which for all its ambience, and good food, is let down by the service.
I look forward to trying The Coal Shed for dinner in the future.

Hi we were very disappointed with the quality of the wine during our meal and lack of fish options. We live locally and have had feedback from other friends on a similar basis plus the wine quality for the price being rather poor.

Visited The Coal Shed before a concert at the Bridge theatre. We were very impressed with the food which used great, fresh ingredients to make really delicious dishes. The sides are especially good: smoky mashed potatoes and broccoli with fennel were both incredible. We were sad we couldn’t stay for dessert. Definitely recommended.

Went with friends to the Coal Shed after a play at the Bridge theatre. We had previously been to the Brighton branch and were not disappointed. Starters were very good and we shared a porterhouse and chateaubriand for mains. Both very well cooked and with good sides. Friendly service too.

A fabulous evening, the food was outstanding and full of flavour. Staff extremely happy and helpful nothing was too much trouble. The surprise of a 'birthday plate' for my daughter was wonderful, I had not informed the restaurant that it was a birthday occasion, but picked up very quickly that it was.
Thank you to the whole team, kitchen and front of house for a terrific time.

A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT FOR LOCALS LOOKING FOR NEW HIGH QUALITY FOOD, DRINK AND AMBIANCE.

This was a Tuesday evening booking for 3. The place was well filled but the ambiance incredibly noisy, service painfully slow and food, steak (for one of us) and lemon sole (for two) was very ordinary. One of the party found the sole tasteless, the other fish eater found the fish order as cold. The steak was very ordinary and not inspiring.

All of this was a great pity as the location is great for us. Fortunately there are plenty of alternatives close by. One of us asked for a glass of Mencia and was given the wrong wine. The “corrected” offering was inferior.
