The Coal Shed London
The Coal Shed was born from the love of cooking the finest meat and seafood over fire.
Open seven days a week, the restaurant uses the highest quality ingredients, sourced as locally as possible. Try the 35-day aged sharing steaks or the South Coast sharing fish for a dining experience to remember.
The Coal Shed London, occupies two floors and a bar for pre and post dinner drinks and cocktails expertly crafted. If you want to host your own event, there is a private dining room on the mezzanine or the restaurant can be exclusively hired for any type of occasion.
The food quality was very poor. Like a greasy cafe. Food was also sent back due to cold in the middle. Service was not professional so we asked to come off the bill. Informed manager of poor quality and they were not interested and quote it’s normally ok. It was a 21st birthday lunch and they were inform but made no preparation or attempt at anything. We only booked as everywhere was fully booked at short notice and this was the only place with lots of availability. Now we realise why. So we left after main course and didn’t take the 3 meal offer but ended up paying for it.
Excellent evening - great food, great service and will definitely return again soon!
Great food - as always. Still a fairly noisy location, but the food makes up for it.
Great meal with the family. Good food and service. Especially recommend the Goat sharing meal - wouldn’t normally choose it but it was amazing.
We came here on New Years Eve 2018/19 and it was superb, this time was good, but nowhere near as good as the New Years eve meal.
The steak was cooked medium rare, but was charred on the edges. The Red wine Jus that I ordered came up as smoked marrowbone - yep maybe I should have knocked it back, but there would have then been a delay, my steak would have to have been taken away and my wife would have had to have eaten on her own
Service was OK, nothing great, nor outstanding just OK
Its the small things that count and whilst the restaurant provided a nice touch by providing two chocolate truffles as my wife and I had completed the 20Km London Winter Walk for Great Ormond St Hospital overall I can only rate this night meal as good
Delicious starters, fried duck egg, scallops and grilled octopus! Mains were porterhouse and monkfish which were very yummy and good value for money. This is my second visit and Coal Shed is consistently good. Highly recommended.
Love the a la carte menu but Sunday roast left a lot to be desired.
Had the 500g sharing roast and to be honest it seemed to me that meat isn’t roasted it’s just a pan fried steak with roast potatoes.
Other than that, I love the place and it won’t deter me from returning but I won’t return for Sunday lunch.
Really great service. Our waiter was very personable and made us feel very welcome. Lovely steak too.
Had a very enjoyable meal on Saturday evening.
Restaurant is in a great location, the staff attentive and the steaks fantastic.
It is expensive and sides and sauces are not included
Amazing seafood menus executed in an immaculate pristine presentation. Amazing taste.. great ambience!
Had 2 starters as a main - octopus and seared scallops with garlic mushrooms sides. All in all amazing. Great date place
Lovely spot and the food was ok. The only problem for me was that the menu was very limited so I struggled to find something to eat but the service was great.
I have to say I was surprised. The name and the decor scream 'typical' steakhouse but the food is absolutely wonderful and is top class restaurant standard. From the flavours to the presentation of the food. I was stunned. Also we didn't do steaks. Instead we opted for seafood starters and seafood mains and 'Oh boy' do they know how to do seafood. The Octopus was tremendous and the monkfish special was just that. If I had one issue u would say the scallops were very small at 2cms in diameter so that was disappointing. But it doesn't take away from everything else that was top draw. The chefs should be proud of the food they create. On top of this the service is top class by being friendly and tending to your needs when you need it. No badgering here, the staff are tuned in to their customers and know when to engage and know when to leave them to enjoy the food.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!
Good location, friendly staff, Great food
Very warm welcoming entrance. Staff friendly & helpful. Relaxed warm environment feeling with classy features.
Simple menu selection, great wine list to chose from. But most important the food was 5star & very filling.
Overall a great experience at The Coal Shed London
I took my partner to this restaurant for dinner and the service and the food was fantastic! It is quite expensive but you know this before you have made a reservation, and the quality of food makes it definitely worth it!
Came here on New Years Eve & whilst I had make a hash of my booking thinking we had a 6 course tasting menu the place was superb ! It turned out the menu I was expecting was for their Brighton restaurant - my fault entirely, but a complimentary glass of Prosecco helped alleviate my pain and embarrassment !! I didn't get the mangers name, but he deserves a shout out as he was superb
The steaks were fantastic - I had a sirloin the other 3 people in my party had an 800g Chateaubriand between them and was apparently superb
The starters were also different but presented in such a way that it felt like a travesty to eat them and then the Soufflé's we all had as a desert were out of this world
I generally am able to find something a restaurant can do to improve but this has to be one of the very few where I can't fault the meal, the atmosphere or the service
The food was tasty and presented well. The service wasn’t good as it was too busy and there weren’t enough staff. We spent a lot of our precious time trying to catch the attention of one of the waiting staff. Overall - wouldn’t visit again as there are lots more restaurants to go to.
The Sunday sharing lunch is really good value and very good. We really appreciated the complimentary chocolates for my sister’s birthday.
I've dined at the Coal Shed on several occasions in each London and Brighton and have always had an excellent experience. On this occasion sadly not. My husband's food was okay but neither of my courses was enjoyable: even the usually reliable sirloin was cold, dry and cooked well past the medium I had asked for. Some of the service was good, some staff very poor. Also the toilets has paper towels strewn across the floor and generally looked in need of some maintenance. Regrettably a very disappointing experience.
An enjoyable evening with friends. Really excellent steak and great service.
Our waitress was lovely. She was very helpful and attentive. We have Sunday roast which was quite a large portion. Food was nice, but not amazing.
Excellent in every respect. Food was amazing, staff were fantastic and the ambiance was great.
Visited with a friend, arrived early and immediately taken to table, however we'd have been happy to sit at the bar. Great cocktails to start, menu is good and not stupidly expensive.
We both had the short rib croquettes to start which were lovely. I then had a ribeye and my friend a sirloin. Steak was cooked perfectly and had some great sides of creamed spinach, tenderstem broccoli and beef dripping chips. We shared the Apple Crumble Souffle for dessert along with trying two of the three varieties or espresso martini on offer. Lovely bottle of red wine too.
Really enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere was good, a few large tables celebrating for Christmas but it wasn't loud at all. Staff were great. I would definitely return and have already told friends about it. A really good addition to London Bridge.
I had a wonderful Dining experience at cold she'd London. We were given a lovely greeting as we entered the resteraunt and was shown to out table. Our waitress was the best polite, funny and was very patient with us as we couldn't decide what to order. 10/10 she really did make the experience that little more special. 10/10 for mamanagment who was very polite and patient with me when I could not get my code app code to come up. I'm glad I chose to bring my partner here for his birthday he throughly enjoyed his food as so did I. He was also treated to a cheeky birthday treat which was lovely by the resteraunt.
the service was very slow. we only ordered 1 main course and were there for 90 minutes. The whole sea bream when it fianlly arrived was excellent- moist and succulent and large! Perhaps it is no longer fashionable to offer to bone fish in modern restaurants?
we would not have any time pre show to have either dessert or coffee. the wine list was interesting and not expensive.
However it is no better than the other trendy restaurants in this development in tower bridge- it does not stand out particularly.
Sunday lunch at the Coalshed was excellent, well present, tasty food, and great service.
The portion size was more than adequate for two people, the beef was cooked to perfection.
Lovely buzz in the restaurant, and the servers were friendly and professional.
Highly recommend this restaurant.
Visited for Sunday lunch with my husband, having read the reviews of the Brighton Voal Shed. Food was amazing, cooked to perfection, delicious vegetables & crspy toast potatoes. Great help from the French sommelier with the choice of wine. Great quality & good value for money. Will be back again soon.
Sunday roast is a sharer between 2 and a must! Friendly and prompt service.
Ambrosia with excellent wine recommendations, great for date night
Exactly what we expected. Food really tasty, good service. Thats all we wanted
Four of us booked the Coal Shed for a pre theatre lunch. One of us is vegetarian who also eats fish. We were disappointed to be told the only vegetarian option, mushroom risotto, had run out, even though it was early lunchtime and there were only 2 tables seated when we arrived. There were several fish dishes available, however two of these had meat or poultry incorporated. This was a shame as it further limited the choice available. Otherwise the service was friendly, the retaurant very comfortable, and the location was ideal for The Bridge theatre
Delicious food and great friendly staff.. Look forward to my next visit...
We have been on a regular basis and the food is always good - we use the restaurant for business meetings as our office is located in Shad Thames. The area is well served for good restaurants so in a way we are spoilt for choice but we try to rotate to ensure that we support as many of the local restaurants as possible as we don't want to lose any of them!!!
Felt hurried and harried to give up our table because a big Christmas party was booked Staff tried to explain but didn’t really care if we were upset or not just wanted table back Stater of smoked salmon was very good Cod main was a bit over cooked and put lentils under spiced Dessert was a failure Good idea poor execution-apples in tart under cooked Would not return
A disappointment -- especially compared to the excellent Brighton original. The location inevitably attracts a shiny expense-account clientele, which may make it a sensible commercial proposition, but loses a lot in terms of atmosphere and fun. We chose salt aged Hereford rib to share -- and found it dry and relatively flavourless. A bottle of Cahors ought to be the ideal robust accompaniment to steak, even if it's bound to cost a bit -- this one was Cahors in price but not in taste. Excellent service, and a nice touch of complimentary truffles to mark an anniversary -- but that's not really enough to come away feeling glad to have been there.
Excellent place for a good pre- or post-theatre meal if you are seeing anything at The Bridge theatre. Friendly efficient service, excellent food.
The service was incredibly slow. Even though the restaurant was practically empty.
We did the pre-theatre menu. Everything was very good except the minute steak. They suggested medium rare which is what I like anyway - it came out looking very unappetising and it was well done. They were quick to replace with a new better looking steak but this too was at best medium, if not, well done.
My friend had the cod which was amazing. The starters were good. Overall this place is ok but let’s itself down with service.
Lovely location, amazing food, friendly team.
I will for sure reccomend and coming back!
One of the best roast I’ve had. Beef was beautifully cooked and a lot of it. And the veg was tasty! I would make this my regular without a doubt
A friend and I attended this restaurant for the sharing roast and it was incredible. We couldn't fault the food and wine. The service wasn't great, the speed at which the food arrived with good although we had to ask to have our wine next to us as our glasses were empty for 10 minutes before I had to ask for more wine. All in all the food is amazing and location is great - would definitely recommend.
