The Chef and I
Folks can choose to order off the menu or do a chef’s tasting seven days a week.
We offer a chef’s tasting at two levels: five or seven courses; a culinary experience comprised of what’s in season and what the chefs are inspired to share with you that day.
Additionally, we offer regular menus for lunch, brunch, dinner, and happy hour. Executive Chef Chris Rains and his staff carefully curate these menus seasonally.
Counter (Show Kitchen) seating is limited and generally requires a reservation. If you desire Counter (Show Kitchen) seating, please select "counter" seating when you make your reservation.
We have a 24-hour cancellation policy. Any reservations cancelled within 24 hours of the reservation date/time is subject to a $20 per seat charge.
Jumbo Sea Scallops
Half pound of fresh large sea scallops, pan roasted crispy and served over a basmati dirty jasmine rice with Peruvian sweet peppers, wild mushrooms, sweet onions, house bacon over a Thai style coconut sauce
Caramelized Cauliflower and Local Honey
caramelized in olive oil with herbs, sea salt and chile flakes, finished with local honey and candied nuts

Fabulous experience Saturday night! Food was superb and the "experience " was delightful. We will definitely travel the three hours to eat there again. Try the goat cheese starter, thank me later!
The staff is amazing. The food tantalizing. Everything was so delicious from the caramelized cauliflower appetizer to the entrees. Jumbo sea scallops and the Vegan bento box. We had a bottle of the PInot Grigio which was delicious. We took butter cake to go. Can’t say enough good about this place.

Outstanding food! We had the haddock and scallops. Wonderful butter cake with hint of orange for dessert. Everything was very well done. Location is a converted garage; pretty casual, especially compared to the quality of the food.
What an awesome experience. The menu is diverse and culinary magic. There are 5 and 7 course tastings that you can add a wine pairing. We had the beef tartare (excellent), Crispy Duck Breast, and Elk Tenderloin, with a bottle of wine. All were tasty. The wines are very reasonably priced. We were seated in "the kitchen" area where you watched everything being prepared along with chatting with the Chefs. It was most enjoyable. Unfortunately we were just visiting Nashville, but if I lived there, I would frequent this restaurant often.
The best restaurant I’ve been to in a long time. From the first bite to the last... simply amazing!! And the staff and chefs... I just don’t have the words!! Highly recommend!!! A must!
Incredible experience from top to bottom—food was excellent (salad, beef tartare, salmon app, duck, duck confit taquito) and service was so attentive and welcoming. Can’t wait to go back!
This was our favorite meal the entire week! We were celebrating our 5 year anniversary and it was such a treat. The staff and the chefs were awesome. We watched them prepare everything from our seat at the counter. The food melted in our mouths and we couldn't wait for the next dish to come out. Get the 7 course special, a bottle of wine and enjoy a culinary experience like no other! The chefs and staff are so friendly and engaging while running numerous burners. We didn't know where to focus our attention, there were so many fascinating things happening at one time. A must place to dine in Nashville, and request a seat at the counter. You'll love it!
Wonderful experience! We opted for the tasting menu which was delivered perfectly across all courses. Service was attentive and the entire team was knowledgeable of the menu. Flavors were extraordinary and presentation was delightful. Lovely evening and we will return!

Sat at the corner of the bar and had the salmon belly, lamb belly and the scallops. All were excellent!
Never disappoints!!! We come here every time we are in Nashville. The Chef's Counter is a MUST if you can get a reservation. The cauliflower appetizer is amazing as well as the salmon belly. My husband had the Swordfish special and I had the Elk. Both wonderful! Can't wait to go back again!!!
Amazing in every way. Food. Ambiance. And service. Drinks were amazing. I walked in and was immediately greeted with a genuine welcome, they sat me at my table even when my party wasn't complete. Watching them cook was an experience in and of itself. Get the bacon. It was good as candy! Will absolutely be back. And soon!

A must visit. We loved everything about this restaurant. Firstly you feel like one of the family. The open kitchen provides interaction with the chefs who are up for a chat and happy to talk about their experimentation with food. The food is awesome and innovative, you pay a bit more but it is delish! The decor is hip, trendy and the whole place just works. They also practiced excellent COVID-19 protocols with social distancing and mask wearing. We will be back

We were very much looking forward to a night out to celebrate our anniversary. Our reservation was for 8:30 and we were not seated until 9:00. In the meantime, we were at a side table and ordered a cocktail we wouldn’t have otherwise ordered due to the delay. Everyone was perfectly nice, which we appreciated. We, too, kept saying we were not in a hurry and wanted to enjoy the evening.
The 5 course tasting menu was pleasant and we also did the wine paring. We enjoy this type of dining experience and very much wanted to support our local restaurant during this trying time. Towards the end, the staff were ready to go home and we felt like we just needed to go.
At the end of the evening our bill was $360+++. Despite all the apologies on the front end for the delay, we were not offered anything gratis. We fully anticipated paying this amount for our evening out at the Chef and I, but left disappointed considering the lackluster experience.
Always have a good experience at this restaurant. Duck breast was outstanding as was the lobster bisque. Always a look forward to location.
The Chef and I was the choice for our traditional birthday meal, and we will definitely be adding this to the rotation of celebratory-meal restaurants! The service was excellent, the food was fantastic, and the ambiance was amazing. We had multiple apps (the cauliflower and goat cheese is a MUST GET) and went with the scallops for entree. Every bite was delicious. Thanks for a great experience!

I wish there were more stars to choose from! This is the best meal my husband and I have eaten in forever! We celebrated 39 years of marriage at brunch yesterday... i just can’t say enough great things about our entire experience! We will be back!!!💝

It was my little brother’s (22 years old) first tasting and he loved it. His comment was “how am I supposed to go back to Top Ramen after this.” The experience was top notch. The food was fantastic. The staff were all knowledgeable and made you feel at home.
The Duck and Waffles was very delicious and got my wife and I to come back for dinner to do the tasting menu.
The restaurant looks like a former garage or auto repair shop. It's minimalist. There are seatings around the open kitchen. Diners can watch how the chefs cook, an interesting experience.
Chef and I was recommended by friends of ours and boy are we glad we gave it a try! The menu was on point, Chef Tyler was amazing and personable, the food left us wanting more and the ambiance was perfect. We will definitely be back!

This was my first time out since COVID-19 restrictions. My groups went for brunch and we couldn't have picked a better place. The service was fantastic, the food and drinks were amazing - all in a safe environment. It was so much fun to go to a nice restaurant! I will be back!
Birthday dinner for my wife and another couple. We had a delightful experience sitting on the corner of the bar overlooking the open kitchen. The chefs were very engaging, the service was excellent, and the food was even better. Highly recommend The Chef and I as a true fine dining experience par excellence!
I don’t eat at fine dining establishments very often but this place was exceptionally distinct from others I have visited. The personal connection with the chefs and staff make the experience special and the food was exquisite. We followed a seafood theme starting with the lobster bisque, cauliflower plate, and scallops for the entree. We finished the evening with the creme brûlée and enjoy their wine along the way. The ambience can be casual to formal for dress but comfortable and inviting at the same time. Overall the experience from the food to the staff was very special for myself and my date. With tip added we spent just over $200 for two people. We will definitely return someday and will recommend to friends and family.

Wonderful staff and the ambiance is great. The food is well prepared and sitting at the bar gives you a bird's eye view.

Even though they have limited there menu right now, it is still one of the best places in Nashville to dine. Save room for dessert. The apple cider sorbet was delicious.
