The Chef and I is built on a love story between two people that began 15 years ago in Nashville, Tennessee.
Chris and Erica Rains grew the company from two to now over fifty family members.

We serve innovative cuisine in a fun environment. Guests can choose to order off the menu or do a chef's tasting any day of the week. A private chef’s table and an interactive show kitchen in addition to regular dining is what you’ll find at The Chef & I Nashville Midtown!

We are also able to accommodate walk-in guests in our lounge, backstage bar and other dining areas; with a short wait depending on the day of week and time. Prime times are longer of a wait for walk-ins.

Reservations for parties of (4) or more canceled within 24 hours before are subject to a $20 per seat charge.

    We did the tasting menu with wine pairings. We often had to wait long times or very short between meals. The wine never came out with the food and we often had to eat the whole meal before our wine came out. Also, we often had a wait a while for new cutlery to come out for every meal. Overall we thought the service received was not something we expect from a restaurant we’re paying over $125 each for a tasting menu.

    The 7 course tasting was a lot of fun and very good. Our waiter, Addison, was energetic and quite entertaining. He let us take our time, knew how to sell and talk about the food without feeling pushy at all. Overall a great experience from start to finish!

    It is not a fine dining experience as mentioned by other viewers. I have been to enough fine dining to know the difference. Food was good but not outstanding especially the chef's choice,we did the 5 course with wine pairing. The wines were good coz we upgraded to the $100 pairing but the food was good enough. Might have been better with a regular entrée.

    I’ve been to the old location and thought it was one of the best experiences I’ve had. Incredible food and great chef interaction The new location is just not as good. Food was tasty but the atmosphere and experience are lacking. And an automatic 2% “service charge for the chef” added to the bill. Ridiculous. I’ve recommended this place to numerous people. Not anymore.

    Thank you for dining with us multiple times and I hate to hear you don't appreciate the new location. We did our best to re-create the old location in a new space and feel we did a pretty great job of it. We have multiple areas where you can interact with our chefs like the garage, with the closest to that experience being the "chef table counter" downstairs or the show kitchen counter upstairs provided another interactive dining experience. As, for the 2% charge, it does go into a pool to reward our chefs interactive nature of their positions but you can always request to have it taken off, not sure why that is ridiculous?     We had a memorable meal at the Chef and I. We opted for the tasting menu (7 courses) with wine pairings and could not have been more pleased. The tasting menu was so creative and playful and delicious- really well executed. And the wines hit the right note each and every time to match the course.

    A Decent Dining Experience with Room for Improvement My recent visit to The Chef and I left me with mixed feelings. While it had its merits, I couldn't help but feel that there was room for improvement, especially considering the price point. Here's a balanced review of my experience: Pros Delicious Flavors: Undoubtedly, the highlight of the evening was the food itself. The flavors in some dishes were genuinely delightful. Noteworthy mentions include the Goat Cheese and Cauliflower, Beets and Burrata, and "The Rocket" Salad. Each dish showcased a commendable level of craftsmanship. Friendly Service: The wait staff at The Chef and I were a bright spot in the dining experience. They were accommodating, attentive, and willing to assist with any special requests or dietary considerations. Cons Limited Pescatarian/Vegetarian Options: One noticeable drawback was the lack of pescatarian or vegetarian choices on the tasting menu. In today's diverse dining landscape, it would be beneficial for the restaurant to cater to a wider range of dietary preferences. Soggy Toast: Our order of goat cheese cauliflower toast fell short of expectations. Upon arrival, the toast was disappointingly soggy and lukewarm. It appeared that the dish had been prepared in advance but was held back when our runner realized it was too early to serve and took it back to the kitchen until it was the correct time, resulting in a less-than-ideal texture and temperature. Fish Bones: We opted for the fish of the day, which unfortunately came with an unexpected challenge—numerous fish bones. While bones are expected with fish, the number we encountered made for a somewhat uncomfortable experience. In summary, The Chef and I offers a pleasant dining experience with some standout dishes and friendly service. However, the lack of options and issues with food prevent it from reaching its full potential. With a few adjustments, it has the potential to become a more compelling dining destination for the $

    Hi Andrew, thank you for your feedback, as always we continuously strive to be better than the last time. We put a lot of thought into the tasting menu to deliver an experience using a myriad of ingredients. The current tasting highlights lobster, shrimp and arctic char as well as king trumpet mushrooms touching on seafood and vegetables. Additionally we always have available a vegetarian tasting experience for request, I apologize if this wasn't shared with you when you inquired about it that night. We pride ourselves on being able to cater to all dietary needs and it is one of the things we are great at. We are chefs and can pivot on a dime and create a unique dish if needed off menu during most business hours. I hate to hear about the bones and will address. This should no happen.

    Loved our entrees . But …Missed the chef experience of watching the preparation of the food. Miss the cauliflower being on the brunch menu. The experience made this place unique at the old location

    Hey GG, next time you come in, reach out to me first so we can put you down during brunch at the chef table counter downstairs. It's the closest thing to the old location and it is the only "chef cooking experience" we offer at brunch. During dinner hours we have the upstairs show kitchen up and running as well as the chef's counter downstairs.

    I had the tasting menu and was “underwhelmed “. The first course was supposed to have steak and warm lobster and I got a cold plate from the refrigerator that tasted like only tomatoes. (I think they forgot the meat). The rest of the courses were just ok. Very loud and bad acoustics. We dressed up and other guests were in shorts and tshirts. This local won’t be going back there.

We take great pride in our ingredients and where we source our proteins and produce. We had a fresh order of steaks delivered that day since we sold out the night before, so I can assure you it wasn't "Old", however sometimes steaks have a mind of their own when it comes to marbling etc...     Remarkably, The Chef and I is my favorite restaurant, anywhere. The food is simply unbeatable: endlessly creative (especially the prix fixe menus!), interesting, well-seasoned, and delicious. Formal service is elegant and breathtaking attentive at Jean-Georges in New York or Cyrus in Healdsburg, CA; service at The Chef and I is superbly warm, friendly, and helpful; all the staff seem to love working there. For physical atmosphere I would prefer Kai in Chandler, AZ, or Mix in Las Vegas; but The Chef and I is unquestionably comfortable. The most serious shortcoming, for me, is the limited, low-end wine list--a feature common to all Nashville restaurants; I presume the local clientele simply can't support a fuller triple-digit list. But The Chef and I is always upgrading, and they do a good job of selecting good, interesting wines for the price. Intriguing, delicious food, different each time you go, isn't what everybody is looking for in dining out; but, if that's you, The Chef and I is a don't-miss. As a place to return to regularly, I would prefer it to Le Bernardin, The Inn at Little Washington, or The French Laundry.

    The wine and appetizer chefs were great. There is no “seat at the counter to view the head chef in action” as advertised. You are seated at the bar where they play hard rock music and the wait staff run the tasting menu items back and forth from the kitchen. It was a $500 dinner for 2 people and I was very disappointed.

    Hi Anonymous? I am glad you enjoyed your seats with our "Show Kitchen Chefs" at the "Show Kitchen Counter" But hate to hear you were disappointed in your experience. We do offer a view to watch our head chef downstairs at the "Chef Table Counter" during our dinner services and I assure you he was deeply involved on Saturday night. Those seats are first come first serve and go quickly most evenings well in advance, but you can always take a trip downstairs and pear in through completely open kitchen to experience the fire.     Horrible experience eating at this restaurant. We ordered the tasting menu and each course took 30 minutes to come out from the kitchen. The waitstaff was incredible, but not worth the money. Would not recommend.

    Hi Anony, I hate to hear you had a horrible experience and the timing was off. We plan for the tastings to be spread out averaging 10/15 minutes per course. 5 course tastings are slated to be 90 minutes from the time of order and 7 course tastings are at 110 minutes. Now, of course everyone eats/dines at different paces, so we try to take that into account by adjusting where we can, usually by slowing down a tasting if asked unfortunately speeding up the tasting is a difficult thing to do with hundreds of plates on a busy night.     We sat with chefs Eric, Matt, and Blake, and we had a wonderful meal! We did the 5 course tasting menu, and it was a perfect amount of food. The scallop and tandoori chicken were the standouts, but every dish was fantastic. We also had one of the most unique desserts we've tried in Nashville in Blake's cucumber rice cake with avocado sherbet- it was insane! We'll definitely be back

    Red Snapper was delicious and others had duck from the menu and the duck special. Raved that it was the best ever. And that comment came from a real foodie. Waitresses were pleasant but a little slow. Atmosphere very nice but our area was very noisy. Some people just do not care about others and need to out shout each other . An excellent food presentation.

    Great experience! Came to Nashville for an anniversary weekend. Chef Chris personally contacted me to ensure a memorable experience. We sat at the chef's table, which was amazing: awesome food tailored to our tastes, wine pairings were fantastic, fun banter with the chefs, super service. Highly recommend!!!

    One restaurant that never disappoints. This was our third time at The Chef and I and we have eaten at the chefs counter downstairs the last two times and had the best food and conversations with the Chefs. Chef Eric and Chef Arryn (sp) are so entertaining and watching them cook is a show in and of itself. The tasting menu with the wine pairing is the only way to go and the chocolate flourless cake with the chocolate whipped cream is probably one of the best in Nashville. Just found out they have cooking classes and brunch!!! We will be back!!

    Phenomenal! Hands down the best dining experience I have had in the 30 years I’ve been alive. I wish I lived here so that I could do it all over again and again. Wonderful staff, exceptional food, and an amazing vibe. 100/10 Made the entire trip worth just this experience alone.

    We had a great time. Our server, Addison, was seriously the best! Was a little disappointed because this was my second visit and they were out of the shrimp and mussels both times. But I really enjoyed my meal nonetheless.

    Pleasant surroundings and the food was good, not as great as the hype. Entrees were brought out mid-appetizer which is a big "no" for us. Same happened to the couple next to us. Also, "chef's table" wasn't really that. Watched a lot of bisque being dished and desserts being prepped but no real cooking. Assume the real chefs were in the back.
