The Chef and I
Folks can choose to order off the menu or do a chef’s tasting seven days a week.
We offer a chef’s tasting at three levels: three, five, or seven courses; a culinary experience comprised of what’s in season and what the chefs are inspired to share with you that week.
Additionally, we offer regular menus for lunch, brunch, dinner, and happy hour. Executive Chef Chris Rains and his staff carefully curate these menus seasonally.
Counter (Show Kitchen) seating is limited and generally require a reservation. If you desire Counter (Show Kitchen) seating, please indicate in the special requests section of your reservation.
We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Any reservations changed/ cancelled within 24 hours of that reservation is subject to a $20 per seat charge.

Amazing food and experience
Reservation to eat there but not honored by the restaurant. You should not expect to be seated when you asked, or perhaps at all. We went elsewhere
This was our second trip and this time we sat at counter which was a great experience. We loved all courses of the chef’s tasting menu. Can’t wait to go back.
Amazing business dinner. Service was impeccable and food was incredible. Wonderfully unique menu.
This is an excellent restaurant with food that brought us back in 2 weeks! The steak is the best I have had in my life! Would recommend this restaurant to all who would like to try it!
Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner . We brought 3 teens and they loved watching the food being prepared. Ignore previous comments about them being insensitive to food allergies . They accommodated my two nieces with food allergies with meticulous food prep!! Many thanks to the chefs and the wait staff!
Was expecting a lot more for being rated #1 ... Service is ok but sure could use some more waiting staff...
We wanted to go all the way with the seven course tasting menu and wine pairing but it didn't really have anything that jumped off the menu.... and were happy we saved several hundred dollars by not going that way.... All and all a nice place but shouldn't be rated #1 ... So many other great restaurants in Nashville should get that rating for their amazing service and selection..
Meal was very good so would try again. Two complaints though. I asked for a house cab when I first arrived at the bar. Didn't ask price but was suprised it was about $18. Also, asked for an after dinner drink. The liquor I requested was not available so I walked to another place nearby for a drink. When I walked back I was told we both had to pay double the valet parking fee because we walked someplace else. Just came across as cheap.
We skipped the tasting menu because it had far too many fish dishes. We started with the brussels sprouts, and they were good. We got the hangar steak and chicken entrees, and they were both very good. Overall, the food was good and very worth the reasonable prices.
The service was lackluster. There was one waiter working and it seemed like we rarely saw him. We were seated at the counter, so he would just show up over one of our shoulders out of nowhere to reach for the water container occasionally. He was nice, but the seating arrangement just made for a weird experience.
However, the real reason we won’t be going back is the way the kitchen handled my girlfriend’s peanut allergy. I called ahead to confirm that it wouldn’t be a problem, but we still watched as a cook reached her hand into a peanut container to garnish scallops, and then reached her hand directly into some other garnish. The kitchen seems to think that people with a peanut allergy have no problem with contamination; I’m not sure how a professional kitchen wouldn’t be aware of this. We alerted the host and their was a discussion with the kitchen, which was nice, but by then we were already very much on edge and felt awkward having to ask the chefs to wash their hands more. One chef later stated: “It’s fine, I don’t have peanuts on this side.” Overall, there was a lack of respect for a very serious situation and it ruined our experience. If you cannot accommodate a peanut allergy, just say so on the phone.
We were so excited to dine there. However, as we watched our food being prepared, it was so over salted and tasted as such. Hopefully it was just the person cooking that day. Very cool trendy spot, just can’t take all the salt.
The food was absolutely amazing. Drink selection was very good and the sweet child of mine is easily one of the best drinks I've ever had. It's a little on the pricey side, but the quality is there. Will be back soon.
This was my first visit to The Chef and I and very much loved the open kitchen design of the restaurant and overall experience. The wait and bar staff were friendly, attentive, and offered great feedback on menu. The 'Sweet Child of Mine' is my favorite signature cocktail and I must say that their 'Shrimp and Grits' is one of the best versions I have ever eaten. I highly recommend this restaurant, hope they stick around, and will return for their Sunday brunch!
Great food. Fun busy vibe. Sat at the counter with the view into the kitchen area, which was fun. Will go back for sure.
Might be the best food I’ve ever eaten. We had the scallops and the hangar steak and both were to die for. Also had the crab wonton for an appetizer and creme brûlée and almond butter cake for dessert. All were fantastic. Very cool to see them cooking your meal right in front of you! We will be back if we return to Nashville!
Fabulous meal! All the flavors were amazing! Todd was our waiter and he was spot on with all of his recommendations!
Our waiter was very welcoming and gave great suggestions. All the food was delicious!! We had BLTs, Salmon Belly & Brussel sprouts with bacon...excellent flavors!! Would definitely go back!
Great service, great location, great meals!
Lunch is still a fairly new offering so not overly crowded with high noise levels. Smiling interactive staff. Good variety of food offerings from shareable small plates to salads to combo entrees. Fresh and delicious. People need to visit Chef and I for lunch.
Awesome. Great food - splurge on the seven course dinner.
Fabulous restaurant. The chefs were so accommodating, creative, and welcoming. Sit at the counter and you will be thoroughly entertained! The food was delicious and really unique combinations of ingredients. Can't wait to go back!
As always, this place is just fantastic. The chefs are always creating new and flavorful spins on traditional ingredients. The service is always top notch ans there is no better dining experience or value than The Chef and I
My friend and I loved this restaurant. We did the tasting menu and everything was outstanding. It's really fun to watch them prepare your food. The staff was super helpful and friendly. It is an uplifting atmosphere.
The chef’s course with wine pairings was incredibly overpriced and the experience was not worth the price. The restaurant also seems to be unsure of what type of atmosphere it is trying to achieve.
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience at The Chef and I. The outside is so nondescript that it almost feels like a mistake but the sign is clear and when you open the door you know you’r in the right place. The converted garage makes it all the more special. We sat at the counter overlooking the preparation. All the staff were engaging. The food was delicious although they are heavy handed with the salt so I’d suggest requesting they lighten it up. Despite that, it was fun and a great place for foodies
I recommend sitting at the counter around the open kitchen if you get a chance. They have an ever-changing tasting menu but it’s quite pricey. Overall a very good restaurant.
Fun to sit at the counter and interact with the chef.
The Chef and I was recommended by a young lady who is from the area to my boyfriend and I on a small get away. They have amazing food and extremely friendly staff. If I’m ever back in Nashville I will 100% come again.
It was excellent!
It is always a great experience
Fun atmosphere , friendly service, and outstanding food
My wife and I went for our 19 year anniversary, we were seated at the bar top and really enjoyed watching the preparation of the food. The staff did a wonderful job of explaining what each dish was and the taste was excellent. The bread pudding dessert was quite possibly the best dessert I've ever eaten. Thank you to the chef and staff for the wonderful time.
This was absolutely one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had. The food was creative and amazingly good. Don’t hesitate to dine here and shoot for counter seating.
Counter seating was great. Enjoyed watching them prepare the meals. Food was wonderful, as was the service. Can’t wait to return.
Outstanding food and service.
Friend and I sat at the chef’s bar, had a wonderful server. He explained the history of the restaurant, who the chefs were, what the tasting courses were, which wines would be paired with everything, etc. The various chefs were friendly and checked in while we ate to see how we liked things. The noise level is fairly loud.
We chose the five course tasting menu plus wine pairings. I personally have a huge aversion to octopus, but everything in the dish with the octopus was great! I tried a small bite of the octopus, and it was well prepared, but one bite was all for me. The wines all paired very well.
This is a somewhat similar experience to Catbird Seat, probably comes in around the same price if you did it per course, since Catbird does 12 courses. The nice thing about this restaurant is you can choose from the regular menu as well, and many items on the menu looked fantastic. Therefore you can control your cost a bit more with that method! My friend from out of town enjoyed it, and I’d go back.
The scallops were delicious and the atmosphere was unique.
Food was delicious and our server was very knowledgeable and helpful. She was attentive but not too present. The restaurant was more casual than we expected but we loved that about it. Would definitely go back again.
I love this place - best food in Nashville!
Would give more stars if I could. We went before a Preds game and the staff was so nice and fun! Everything we ordered was above amazing!
This place was amazing. Everything was great, food, cocktails and service I wish I lived closer!
