The Chef and I
The Chef writes a new menu every week for dinner and brunch, inspired by what is in season, and only the freshest, highest quality ingredients from meat to seafood to produce. The food is gourmet but approachable; allowing folks to expand their taste profiles.
Come in and try our creations by ordering off the menu or letting the chefs put together a special meal for you with one of our tasting experiences!
Counter (Show Kitchen) seating is limited and generally require a reservation. If you desire Counter (Show Kitchen) seating, please indicate in the special requests section of your reservation.
We have a 24 hour cancellation policy. Any reservations changed/ cancelled within 24 hours of that reservation is subject to a $20 per seat charge.

Hands down the best meal we’ve had in Nashville. I had crispy duck cooked to perfection. Our server when thanked said “my pleasure” as they r trained to do in high end establishments instead of “no problem” the standard reply at most. Had an app complements of the chef that was to die for. We would have liked to have made a meal of it. Started with a charcuterie that was outstanding as well. We will be back!
Expectations were high, but staff was too casual and not as professional.
Appetizers we're good, but too much goat cheese on everything made the dishes to rich, tartare was excellent. Entrees missed the mark. Too much going on food was over spiced and seemed pre cooked- park, duck, scallops over spiced.
We were well taken care of by staff and the menu was imaginative. Favorite dish was salmon belly but all of the shared menus items we had were excellent. It is lively and noisy and perfect for a fun night out. The bill was very reasonable. Would definitely make a return visit.

Since I found this restaurant through great reviews I have to return the favor. The Chef and I was a great dining experience, it was unique and fun with amazing food and drinks not to mention great service. This was our first visit to Nashville and I am so glad we and an opportunity to have dinner here. I absolutely recommend sitting at the counter.

Food was amazing. Was in Nashville for my wife's birthday, read the reviews on here and took a chance. Go with an open mind, ask questions and be ready to have a good night. Drinks are creative and good, but the food is awesome. We did the 1-3 tasting menu and loved it. Added a few side dishes and that was all we needed.
Love the food at The Chef and I. Last time I went did the tasting menu with the wine pairing - WOW! This time the tasting menu didn't appeal so ate from the bar and regular menu and equally WOW. The cauliflower appetizer is awesome but with the whipped goat cheese is pretty rich so definitely share with others. I had the chicken and it was a perfect blend of spice with avocado to reduce the heat. I wanted to lick the plate (but didn't). My friend had the steak and she too was tempted to lick the plate. The only downside is that in the heat of the summer is very hard to keep this place cool. This was my second time there and even with the air conditioner going full blast, it was really warm. Will go back but may wait till the heat of summer passes.
We were greeted so beautifully and with fun enthusiasm. Counter seating is everything. You get to see the fabulous and darling chefs work...and they are truly working magic. That may be one of the most fun and delicious nights out I’ve had in a while!!! Can not wait to go back
First visit, AMAZING RESTURANT!!!! I got the fish of the day which was tuna and my husband did the 7 course tasting menu! It was one of the best meals I have ever had!
Open kitchen concept, in fact the majority of the seating in facing the husband and wife chef team. Watch them create your meal in front of you. Unless you are seated at one of the 2 corner positions, it's hard to have a conversation with 4 or more people. Parties of 2-3 work best. Since you're in the kitchen conversation will be harder and noise will be louder. We've dined at Chef & I for lunch & dinner (2 top) and dinner party of 4. Craft cocktails have fun names; however, the drinks are average. They nail the starters and the taquitos of the day. The pork was meh and underwhelming. Tasting/chef's menu was good; however, service was disjointed.

We had a great anniversary dinner and we will come back again. It’s a little noisy at times, but we could speak to one another. Get a seat at the bar where you can watch the chefs. It’s more fun than you think!

This place was AWESOME!! It was by far some of the best food that me and my husband have ever put into our mouths...I'm not kidding! My husband had the duck and has not stopped talking about it. I had the scallops and they were the best I've ever had. The service was excetptional and they were truly grateful that we chose to come dine with them. It is now a staple for my family!
The food and staff were wonderful. Wasn’t a fan of long table seating but ended up with lovely people on either side. Great place
Unbelievably, we were disappointed in the food, especially with our high expectations. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't in any way special. On previous visits, the food and the interaction with the chefs were exceptional. Perhaps it was because of a busy Friday night occasion. The Pork tenderloin was virtually tasteless and over-cooked; the fish was very average.
The experience and the service were very good but not great. With out of town guests, this was our very special choice. Wish we could rave, but nope.
This place is highly touted but did not live up to the reviews. Food was ok- but too complicated- great ingredients were overwhelmed by each other- nothing was given space to breathe and our palettes could not cope with the medicocre flavor combos. Chef would be better to simplify the flavors and split some things up. Also the high top tables were so crowded we had no room to eat. And it was so noisy we couldn’t hear each other.
Too crowded and not enough seating. Too loud to have a conversation with anyone. Won’t be going back.
Pros: the food is excellent. I ordered the scallops and they were great! The bar menu and other dinner options are also tasty!
Cons: TIGHT seating. I am comfortable around people and don't mind being close, but the seating is almost too close. I wish they could find a way to leave more space in between the seats.

My friend and I agree that our dinner at The Chef and I was one of the best meals we've ever had. We ordered the 7-item Tasting Menu and shared it. Then we topped off our dinner with two of their outstanding desserts. We will be back! Our server, Trish, was friendly and helpful.

There was nothing about this restaurant that we didn’t love. Sitting at the bar overlooking the chefs prepared food made the evening even more interesting.
Given a free small tasting upon arrival - our tastebuds were heightened. We were given the option of ordering a prix fix menu —- with or without wine pairings or smaller appetizers from a different menu. Absolutely over the top — every dish was amazing. Wonderful flavors —— we are all quite thrilled with the entire evening and look forward to returning soon .
This is now one of my top 2 restaurants in Nashville. Chef Chris and his entire staff are amazing. Shrimp and grits were the best ever and the chef’s tasting menu is amazing. Be sure to get a counter table as the chefs are directly in front of you cooking and talking to you. Can’t wait to come back
Anniversary dinner. We had been to their previous location and this is even better. Great dinner and service! Wow!
Well if you have not been here.... you need to. Love the gems in Nashville but this one CRUSHES them. I took some of my peers from Manhattan, Boston, Miami and Charleston. They were BLOWN AWAY. As was I.

This place has my pallet going all over the place!!! The food was AMAZING!!! Atmosphere is great and most definitely coming back!!
