Sick for two days! Tasting menu and wine pairing worse I’ve ever had.
One of the biggest and best finds of the entire trip. Anybody who has the confidence to operate in a 100% open kitchen is worth a look, and I must say that The Chef and I is absolutely outstanding. The flavor, vibe, staff, dining room truly impresses. We came twice in two days!! Order anything—it’s all fantastic!
Interesting format and dining experience. Great food and value.
The food was very good. We loved the tasting menu. Different dining experience than most. Not the best for intimate dinner as the place is small, crowded and rather loud. We sat at the counter and loved watching the chefs at work. Small mistake with order of food and staggering of dishes but they comped the dish and apologized for the mistake. We will return.
The Chef and I delivered! Awesome food, amazing menu and friendly cooks. It’s a little chilly in the restaurant with the garage doors. Everything was flavorful and wonderfully tasty! Top 10 in Nashville!
So incredible that we returned the next day!
Awesome. Highly recommend
A client of mine recommended the Chef & I. It was an awesome experience. The Chef's menu was great. If you decide to come here, I recommend sitting at the counter. Watching the chef making the food was great. The chefs are very personable. The wait staff is extremely friendly. I knew I was in the right place when the valet was outgoing, positive and extremely personable. I felt welcomed right as I arrived. You definitely want to try the Chef & I. You will NOT be disappointed.
Great to sit at the counter and watch them prep the food. The staff is very friendly!
A fantastic dining experience!
What a fun place. We enjoyed the all the staff who were extremely nice. It is so nice to have a couple places like this where you can get away from just ordering from a menu. Order the tasting if you go.
Food was amazing! I had the five course tasting. Highly reccommend. Atmoshphere was very loud.
It was Wonderful!
Only complaint but an important one: too loud . Otherwise excellent. But the noise kept me from giving the highest rating since it affects everything
This was our 4th visit and like always it was amazing. We will return.
Food and service were both quite good, and the energetic vibe to the place made it fun for our small group. As it was a business dinner I would have preferred a separate table rather than sitting immediately beside other groups on both sides.
Unique dining experience, 5 course tasting is must try.
Disappointed this time around. We have been before and had an excellent experience but were quite let down at our dinner last night. We had a party of 5 sitting at the chef's bar area and service was just bad. We were in the middle of talking to the waiter about dietary restrictions and he abruptly left mid-sentence saying that he needed to get another patron a glass of wine. It was 10 minutes before he came back to us, while we were obviously looking around and trying to flag him back down. He tended to 2 other parties before he made his way back to us. In regards to food, my husband ordered the 5 course tasting menu, while 4 of us ordered entrees and we ordered several appetizers for the group. The appetizers came very quickly, which we appreciated, but there was a 30 minute gap between the 1st and 2nd courses of my husband's tasting menu, and it was 50 minutes between when we finished the appetizers and received our entrees. Again, my husband waited roughly 15 minutes between finishing each course of his tasting menu and receiving the next dish, and he had nothing while we all ate our entrees. Timing was just terrible. As my husband waited for his 5th course, the rest of us had long finished our entrees and had our plates cleared. I went ahead and asked for the dessert menu and the waiter seemed flustered at the idea of giving it to us stating that there was still the final course of my husband's tasting menu to come. We did put in the orders for dessert (2 sorbets and a bread pudding) and the bread pudding arrived 10 minutes before the sorbets--odd considering the minimal prep involved in scooping sorbet. We were there for 2.5 hours(!!!!) and just felt like the entire experience was disjointed. My husband and my food was solid, except that 3 members of our party stated that their entrees were tepid in terms of warmth. Very underwhelmed by a place that we had been eager to share with out of town company. Left feeling sheepish for choosing to bring guests here.
amazing food and staff. always creative, courteous and personal.
This was my favorite restaurant on our trip. Food was delish, service was amazing and all the help was so friendly.
We visited The Chef and I because of a recommendation from a coworker who said the food was outstanding. It was that and more. We had the beef tartare, charcuterie board, hangar steak, almond butter cake, and espresso creme brûlée. The atmosphere of sitting at the counter, watching the chef cook in front of you was like a classier version of hibachi. Everything we ate was incredible. Easily the best beef tartare in Nashville. It was the perfect birthday date night dinner. We will definitely be back soon!
Amazing brunch as usual! Sat st the show kitchen and my nephew enjoyed his first visit.
Friendsgiving but we had so much fun
Absolutely loved the atmosphere and the food was simply delicious
The Chef and I was a fun evening with great service and a fun room. The food was just ok, some of the dishes were really good! We did the 7 course tasting menu and the portion sizes were just right. The most disappointing thing about the restaurant was it’s wine list and the pairings with the dinner. We spent over $600 for 4 people which is fine for an outstanding restaurant. The Chef and I has the potential, but has a way to go.
Hosted two casual business dinners here. Out of towners love it. Menu is so creative and food is fun to share. Everything was seasoned well and presentation was appealing. Service is friendly and attentive. Ambiance, though loud with open kitchen, is cozy and good for conversation. Will definitely be going back.
While I am used to small portions, I was especially disappointed here. Don’t get me wrong, the food was exceptional. While I can see some justification of price for the ahi tuna I got, the relatively little (yet incredible) cauliflower appetizer I got was very disappointing. For the price, I was hoping for more than 6 bites.
With that being said, would I go back. Yes, without a doubt. Delicious food, great staff.
Superb from beginning to end. 5 of us for brunch at corner of counter. Creative and delicious food - we all tasted each other’s :-) Mike and Sara (no H) and Chef were helpful, friendly and engaging. Exceeded expectations.
We are visiting Nashville and this was one of our favorite places. The food was incredible. The shared seating can make it a little awkward but we would definitely go back!
The drinks and food were very good. I guess I just expected a little better.
Loved it! Make sure you select counter seating.
The appetizer was excellent, crostini with a smoked salmon spread. Had a specialty drink and it was just okay. Had the Fois Grois The Tuna as the main course and it had a spice on it that just took away from the whole dish and I love tuna....was looking forward to this dinner in Nashville and didn't hit a home run like I thought it was going to...went with 5 others and everyone else enjoyed their meal other than the other person that had the Tuna....he had the same thought as I did....
Everything tasted wonderful, and we have some people in our group with different food allergies. The only negative on the whole evening was it was so incredibly cold in the restaurant we all had to keep our coats on and we were still cold!
Awesome place with great service. And the best valet in town. Sounds weird, but she’s awesome.
Great food, atmosphere, and service. 1st time and will return when we head back to Nashville. We brought local friends, they loved it and they will be back
Really enjoyed our experience! The service was fantastic, and the food was terrific the only thing I would change is perhaps dimming the lights just a little bit. Looking forward to going back.
The Chef and I provided a relaxed atmosphere for a business dinner, providing truly excellent food, attentive but not overbearing service from Clayton, and a noise level that was ideal for our meeting as we were able to talk at a comfortable level without concern of being overloud, and without being incapable of hearing one another.
The Taquitos and Brussels were fantastic starters, and our table was an even split between the Seared Ahi and the Sea Bass Special. The Ahi was cooked to perfect and melted in the mouth. The cold rice was something of a surprise, but it worked well with the tuna and the light sprinkling of sauce. I cannot remember the last time I completely cleaned a plate at a restaurant, but this was the perfectly sized meal and I cleaned the plate just as I was feeling full.
The one downside, if I really wanted to try and find one, was the coffee. The coffee itself was delicious! However, the french press carafe was over-full, and there were some grounds caught on the side that made for a bit of a mess. The cream wasn't terribly easy to pour either (not spouted well). It was a minor thing, and did absolutely nothing to damper a delicious meal.
One more shout out to Clayton who never once let a drink go finished before asking if we'd like another.
Stellar service, stellar food.
The whole experience was a disappointment. Timing of food was rushed. Servers shoved plates we were eating from aside to bring out others or present dessert menu. Food was not plated well. Tempature of dishes was odd. Serving sizes varied widely. Nothing really made sense. Would not return.
