This is the third property for restaurateur Anna Weinberg and Executive Chef Jennifer Puccio - the same team behind Marlowe and Park Tavern. Award winning San Francisco designer, Ken Fulk, revamped the interior with deep leather banquettes, polished brass, zinc and white marble, lending a posh and sultry feel.
yummy truffles bday gift
Very attentive staff. The host, Joel, is super friendly and welcoming! The tomato soup special is amazing! The favor profiles complex and leaving you wanting more.
I again had a fabulous experience at this restaurant. The food is special and I wish I could recreate the meals at home because they are so unique and delicious. Love the atmosphere too.
When I first chose this restaurant, I did so because it was close to the Golden Gate Theater where we were going to see a play. I assumed that it would be pub food and cheap. I made reservations and then looked at the menu. I was a bit surprised to see that it looked like an upscale restaurant with upscale prices. We decided to go anyway. And what a wonderful surprise. It was a nicely appointed restaurant, we had a quiet table in a not very noisy room, and then we ordered and began to eat. As soon as I took the first bite of the beet salad, my heart melted. Calling this a salad doesn't do it justice. It was terrific and well worth the price. Then my main dish arrived. Pork tenderloin. Again, the title doesn't do it justice. Awash with roasted peppers and fingerling potatoes, the pork tenderloin slices were nestled on a wonderful, light and savory sauce. I ate every bite and again became contrite at my initial look at the prices. This is one of the best meals that I've had in a restaurant in years.
S/O to Tim and Shaun (sp?) at hotel Zetta bar.
The service took our plates in such a rush. I still have good leave on the plates, I have to stop them several times. I felt like being rush...
We used to enjoy the scones and the salads at The Cavalier. Not anymore. The scones were over baked, hard, dry, and flavorless. The salad was tasty, but small, and it had one thin sliced of goat cheese on it. It was more like a slightly larger dinner salad. So two of us had two plates of lettuce and fennel shavings and two club sodas for $54 with tax, tip, and SF health. Outrageous. We will not be back.
We love this place because of its location to theaters for live shows on Market and Golden Gate streets. We stay at Hotel Zetta, connected to The Cavalier. Staff and ambience are awesome, but food is lacking in quality and flavor. Menu descriptions don’t reflect final product, unfortunately. We’ve eaten here five times and keep hoping for improvement. Kick it up a notch y’all and you will be fabulous!
A great place! Food is awesome! Friendly and helpful staff, and nice atmosphere. We loved the Scotch Eggs, and the lamb chop appetizer, but the chicken and steak were flavorful and amazing! They do a slow cook on the chicken that makes the end result very moist and delicious!
What a great little find this was. Food was delectable; the blackened salmon savory. Don't miss the sauteed Brussel sprouts with mint. Service was outstanding, fast, friendly, and funny.
Great for a business lunch, easy for East Bay and San Francisco to meet there because it's right next to the Powell St BART station, convenient parking in the Mission St. Garage---Food is excellent, service smooth and pleasant, quiet enough to talk.
Horrible food, basic and bland. Nothing really stood out.
Lovely hidden gem in SF. Perfect place to eat before a show. One of my favorite things about this place is that you can have a conversation! It's quiet!
Terrific food, wonderful service and perfect ambience! Can’t wait to go back.
This is one of my favorite spots in the city. A wonderful mix of old school vibe with great drinks and impeccable service.
Went here on my first date, and came back exactly one year for my birthday celebration. Really great food and much better than the other restaurants this chain has. Used to love the Park Tavern in North Beach, but the service and food there went to crap. Back to the Cavalier-
Wonderful interior decor, friendly staff, who went above and beyond. I was offered sparkling rose to start with, and they have a great assortment of cocktails for everyone's taste. I was a bit skeptic the first time going as it was a gastropub and I have never found British cuisine that great, but they take it to the next level! The brussel sprout chips are amazing, the salad with the truffle oil fantastic. We had scallops and ribeye. And to finish the night i was brought a birthday cake. Happy Birthday!
Can't rave more about this place. Great ambiance, service and great location!
For a British-themed Gastro Pub it is *so* San Francisco. And that is no bad thing. Service is first-class, food is excellent and the chef's variations-on-a-theme are delightful. For example, Fish and Chips in Britain is almost always served with peas. But not these peas - the pea salad was surprising and sumptuous and the perfect complement. The Scotch Egg was a duck egg (of course it was) and the center a vibrant orangey-yellow and soft and gooey. Adding shrimp to the casing - inspired! We mentioned we had theater tickets and service was prompt and precise. looking forward to our return to luxuriate in the meal.
Great food lace for brunch
Good food and service
Great breakfast place; elegant, tasty English-inspired dishes (scones, eggs, sausage, tea, toast)--the sleepers? the Roasted Tomato, which seemed ridiculous to order and---we could have had two. Or three. lol.
Enjoyable experience and super convenient for morning breakfast meetings because it sits right next to the Powell Street Station for Muni and BART.
Terrible service, horrible food, a true deception. Would never return and do not recommend. It’s a waste of time.
It is very chic and funk. I like the atmosphere and very nice foods.
Went there based on info that they had some decent gluten-free options which turned out to not be the case. Food was decently prepared. Server was nice if somewhat uninformed about the menu and celiac disease. Ambiance can only be described as weird, or maybe I’m just old.
Overall the food was OK, but given the other options in the city, I don't think I would come back. Was there for brunch and I felt like the meal was under-seasoned and a little on the cool side. Maybe I'll give them another shot at a later time to see if this was a one off thing, but I want to try a number of other places first.
New server Ben did a terrific job!!! Yay and welcome to the force Ben:)
Cavalier is one of our favorite places to dine for special occasions. Also it is within walking distance from the SFMOMA...A day at the museum followed by a night dinning at Cavalier is divine.
We chose The Cavalier for breakfast because it was a short walk from our hotel, it had good reviews, and Gluten Free options. The wait staff was fantastic and very attentive, the ambiance was lovely, and the food was very delicious. Only drawback was that it was really pricey for just eggs, and side items (bacon and potatoes) were a la carte. Overall, though, very good experience.
Always a great experience and the spot where I regularly take both friends and family.
Great place to eat brunch and have dome wine! Excelent service
Food was very bad. The service was nice and polite but just kept telling us “you don’t want that”. Very pricey, even for the city, total disappointment considering how great the sister restaurants are.
First time to Cavalier for Dinner. My previous visits were for business breakfasts (experience EXCELLENT) Dinner was a different story. Service was outstanding, and our drinks made very well. The appetizers were also good. However, our mains disappointed. Their Marlowe burger is nothing like the burger they serve at Marlowe! The one at Cavalier needs to be renamed (wasn't up to par at all), even though the restaurants are owned by the same group. The fish and chips also very bland and not worthy of praise. Conclusion: I 'll stick to breakfast.
I hadn’t been to the Cavalier in a few years, but my husband and I went a few days ago, and everything was amazing. Such great food!
Service and drinks were great but food was not outstanding, especially for the price. We were served the smallest oysters I’ve ever seen...ridiculously small, honestly! The Brussels sprouts chips were like eating dried seaweed - not much to them! And the seared tuna was mediocre. Will not be returning anytime soon.
Great brunch, lively atmosphere and attentive service. We’ll be back!
Stayed at Hotel Zetta my Bday weekend. Loved the hotel and gym and had dinner and breakfast at Cavalier. Was delish!
It’s always a grand time at The Cavalier. The food is symmetric with the service...impeccable! Hasn’t failed me yet.
My new favorite for casual dining in a lovely spot with excellent service.
Waited half an hour for a bottle of wine they did not have in stock
Hadn't been here in a while, so we stopped by for something light before the show. Seafood portion of the menu was new to us and the smoked crab and shrimp chicory salad was very good, as were the Brussel sprout chips, the horseradish mashed potatoes and the scotch duck egg. Previous Scotch egg I had here long ago was 'deconstructed' with sausage beside the egg -this new version was much more satisfying with egg encased in yummy, crunchy sausage blanket.
Desert was a little problematic -I asked if they could get us a trifle quickly because we had a show to get to and it took 20 minutes for the trifle, espresso and the bill to come when the entire meal had come to us in less than 20 minutes until then...
This is far from the only place we have had this problem with -I know the emphasis when customers start stacking up is to get the apps and entrees out, but I may just have to give up on desserts in general, because it seems to double the amount of time it takes for the meal
Ridiculously overpriced. Food was fine but not at all worth the extremely high prices.
When to The Cavalier for Mother's Day. Everything was top notch but I ordered the special of the day, the Lamb Schnitzel. It was razor thin and tough. Could barely cut it with the huge steak knife they give you. The poached egg that sat atop the schnitzel was over cooked. I would have sent it back but that would have delayed our brunch.
